Fox mum on Lucas surgery

SPARTANBURG -- Defensive back Ken Lucas, whose nose was broken in a fight with receiver Steve Smith last week, wasn't at practice today at Wofford. It was unclear why Lucas, who said Monday that he would need surgery on the nose and would miss two or three weeks, wasn't there.

"He's having a procedure, what you call it I don't know," said Fox. "But it's basically setting his nose."
Fox was asked if Lucas was having the procedure today. "To be honest, I don't know," he said.
-- Smith (ankle) and receiver D.J. Hackett (toe) missed today's early practice with minor injuries. Linebacker Jon Beason (ankle) also sat out. Receiver Muhsin Muhammad and linebacker Na'il Diggs rested for the morning workout, but will likely practice this afternoon. -- David Scott

I believe that he is having a septoplasty, which is a procedure done in order to fix a deviated septum. A deviated septum occurs when the inner wall of your nose collapse to one side, causing a blockage (partial or complete) of one nostrel. This definitely could have happened when Smith hit him in the nose. If it isn't a septoplasty, I don't have a clue what surgery he's having.

Could just be purely cosmetic, particularly given that he seems to have had a nose job before ( http://www.profootballtalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/lucaspics.JPG .) I can see why neither he nor the team would want to admit that if it's the case, because it would be largely unnecessary.

I can't blame him, if I had a nose like he did in 05 I would have to do the same. Everything I have read points to cosmetic surgery but it could have done real damage.
