J-Stew breaks out
Before the game, I told a colleague that Jonathan Stewart needed a highlight reel run tonight, just as a preview of what might be coming in the regular season.
Not to compare Stewart to last season's amazing rookie, but Minnesota's Adrian Peterson had one dazzling preseason run that showed everything you needed to know going into the regular season.
Well, Stewart just had his -- a dyamic 50-yard touchdown run down the left sides. He showed power, speed, breakaway burst and balance. He was tripped up inside the 20, but kept his balance and stomped -- literally -- into the end zone.
If he stays healthy, this guy could be seriously special, folks.

I came up with "J Stew"

Trust me Joe Peeps, you did not come up with J-stew. He's been called that long before he arrived in Carolina. He's also referred to as Snoop. Recognize!

Stewart's performance was definitely the most encouraging thing to come out of this game...and thats saying a lot, there were a ton of positives. Well I'd rank Stewart and Delhomme's performances 1A and 1B actually, that was the Jake we know, love, and need to have every game this year.

Yeah, and those ESPN fogies that talked about their concern with his lack of break-away speed... Choke on it bi-athces!!

this is the Panthers that we will become accustomed to...just you watch.

I must admit, this exceeded my wildest hopes. And more. The only real positive for me was Jakes slow start. It gave the Moore lovers hope. LOL

Lol I love Moore but that play where he threw a pass 5 yards in front of the line of scrimmage was hilarious. I still think he's our QB of the future but that play by itself made it pretty clear he needs a lot more time before he's ready to start. Jake's our man, hopefully for at least another couple years.

DB, now just imagine Brett Favre back there calling the shots (with all of this talent around him)! "Competition only makes us better," and nobody should have a problem with that. Of course, the Panthers could definately do without all of the media hoopla; and for that reason alone I'm glad the organization took a stand against it early.

Beef Stew and D-Lo makes up a textbook NFL Thunder and Lightning Package. I was most impressed by Beef Stews burst and acceleration, I didnt know he was that fast!

Yeah SYRPIS in theory Favre would have been a good addition but I'm glad we didn't get him either...I just feel like this team has a really good chemistry about it and Favre and the resulting hoopla would have ruined that. Not every team could have handled the Smith-Lucas incident nearly as well as these Panthers have. Now if Jake gets hurt again we'll regret not having a veteran QB, but this team looks like it has the right balance of talent and chemistry to make a serious run just as it is.

"Thunder and Lightning" looked more like Lightning and Sheet-Lightning. :-)
Meanwhile, the Thunder was provided on defense and the sound of those special teamers finally tackling guys inside the 20-yard line on kickoffs.
