Jake: A Super Bowl-like delay
Jake Delhomme hadn't spent that much time in a locker room since Feb. 1, 2004, when the Carolina Panthers played in the NFL's biggest game.
"The Super Bowl had an extended halftime," Delhomme said after the Panthers' 24-13 exhibition loss Thursday to the Philadelphia Eagles that was delayed for 58 minutes by a lightning storm. "But nothing like this."
Delhomme played the entire first half against the Eagles -- much of interrupted by the storm. It was his first extended time on the field since elbow surgery last October cut short his 2007 season. He played two brief possessions last week in the exhibition opener against Indianapolis.
"It was another step," said Delhomme, who completed 9-of-14 passes for 54 yards and one interception Thursday. "We faced a pretty salty defense out there with a ton of veterans all over the place. It felt good to be out there. It felt like practice."
It took Delhomme a little while to get comfortable. The Panthers' first two drives were unimpressive three-and-outs. After the weather delay -- and with rain pouring down -- Delhomme appeared to gain more control.
"We got off to a slow start and I was disappointed with the first couple of drives," he said. "I wish we could have put things together a little more."
Delhomme was also hampered by a depleted receiving corps. Steve Smith, D.J. Hackett, Dwayne Jarrett and Ryne Robinson, as well as tight ends Dante Rosario and Gary Barnidge, all missed the game with injuries. Muhsin Muhammad was hit on on the head on one play in the end zone (although he returned to the game).
"That made things a little different," said Delhomme. "But we've just got to go back to work." -- David Scott

Yup nice showing, although disjointed due to the lightening delay.
Marshall looked solid. A key to the season in my opinion is the ability of our safety to smack people just like Moose got cracked by Dawson in the endzone. A stud at that 3rd level to match Beason and Peppers at 1st and 2nd level and we got something going.

Exactly briscoe! What happened to Nate Salley on what should have been a routine tackle but ended being what could have been a TD saving tackle!?! It looks like he's not as effective if he's not going full throttle in practice against unsuspecting teammates. I guess he took my advice and is saving a little something for the regular season. Does he know that as far as his job is concerned that the preaseason counts too!? ...Not to mention that if there is a time to go full throttle during the preseason, it would be in a preseason game against opponents... ich.

About Tofield, that is a good point that its unusual that he wasn't known for fumbling until he got here.

"SYRP, I don't know if you've ever watched a preseason game before"

MP, do you get off on being a jerk? Seriously. I can actually picture you sitting there and patting yourself on the back for something well said. It's moments like these that makes me turn my head when others criticize you.

It appeared as if Nate Salley had taken tackling lessons from Chris Gamble and Deion Sanders. I've carried water for this guy so long my back hurts (and I apologize to all my co-workers for doing so), but I think he needs to go today before he can work his way onto another year of injured reserve. It is not a welfare system, and he does not produce when he is on the active roster.

Well there's simply no need for you to whine about the way that preseason games are covered. It's not going to change, particularly on a national broadcast. Fans in LA and NY care just as much about Joe Buck and Troy Aikman bowling as they do about DeCori Birmingham.

Speaking of whinning, what UNC would you like to whine about for the afternoon?

On a lighter note---those ESPN "experts" haven't said anything about how expnsive it was to get Jeff Otah lately! It seems most (if not all) of Williams' bug runs come from Otah's side of the field.
Meanwhile Mr. I'm holding out for a better contract while negotiations drag for 3 YEARS killed another drive and contriuted to costing us the game (and the SOB is still holding out)!
One of the Fox commentators (Joe *uck or his Kling-uhn sidekick from Star Trek) mentioned they should put Otah at LT and Gross at RT. I would agree when it comes to Otah, but Gross is more useful on the left. He can't run block worth a ****, so he might as well use his athleticism to protect the blindside.
Note to Jake: "Just watch out for RE's coming around and swiping at your arm. Step into the pocket. I know it seems you have a better OL this season, but you still have Gross over there at LT."

*Williams' big runs

Westbrook did not do so well himself,I wasnt impressed with neither ,Both teams better bring something better than that,And Buck and Aikman tells the truth,If any team is not so good they gonna say it,They dont lie,No need of given credit where it is not due,At least not yet!

Ray, I'll remind you of something you and many other people seem to be confused about. "Not losing"...is WINNING.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Aug 16, 2008 12:10:15 AM
playing not to lose gets you losing seasons in 4 of the last 6 years. it gets you too many games like where we were destroying the texans last year and instead of stepping on their neck we let them roar back ,because this team has no killer instinct, which is a direct reflection of the coach.it gets a team into too many 20 to 17 games where youre at the mercy of a referees call or a field goal.50 % of the time youre going to lose those games.
Posted by: ray | Aug 18, 2008 10:54:35 AM
"50% of the time, you're going to lose those games..."
Actually, the Panthers have only lost 47% of those games since John Fox came to town. That mark is 3rd in the NFL, and it's hardly like he came into a great situation, inheriting a 1-15 team. Further, that mark doesn't even include his 5-2 mark in the playoffs, the 4th-highest mark in NFL HISTORY for a coach with that many games. That kind of football is PRECISELY the kind you need to win in January and February.

eat that shit ray!

this team had a lot of talent. fox walked into a great situation.they went 1-15 because of weinke.my basic point is that the panthers havent been playing a lot of football in jan and feb lately. they have missed the playoffs 4 of 6 years in a relatively weak division in the weaker n.f.c.you can throw all the useless stats you want procton but that is the stat that really counts.to prove how useless those stats are ,why dont you tell our listening audience what belichick, dungy, reid parcells percentages were and then tell me that fox is a better coach than any of them. thats o.k watchdog,i remember when i had my first beer.
Posted by: ray | Aug 20, 2008 12:14:14 PM
so procton cleaned your clock ray. take it like a man. and as far as first beers, i was pissing beer when you were still swimming around from ball to ball in your daddys sack.
Posted by: watchdoggin | Aug 20, 2008 2:31:31 PM
im glad that youre the president of the procton useless stats fan club watchdog but instead of making stupid redneck comments why dont you try to form your own opinion and prove to the rest of us that you have an i.q over 50. how did procton clean my clock?i said the panthers lost 50%of those games and he came back with a figure of 47%.that was my point.teams that play not to lose stay at 7-9 and 8-8 on a consistent basis and thus miss the playoffs 4 out of 6 years.

oh, now i get it watchdog. youre an eagles fan.you must be one of those scumbags that they set up a court for inside veterans stadium.you were probably one of the vermin that were throwing beers on little kids with panther gear on during that 14-3 n.f.c championship beatdown.i grew up a giants fan and i would like to thank you and the eagles for all the thrills of watching lawrence taylor and the gang kick your asses all those years.why dont you get a life and slither back to eagle land.oh thats right you probably got banned from their blogs.
Posted by: ray | Aug 21, 2008 1:59:03 PM
like i said ray, procton handed you your ass and you just need to man up. and no, im not a philly fan, it just amuses me when you yankee pricks are exposed for the fucking dumbass know it alls you think you are. as for the giants, they were perennial bottom feeders until they drafted a linebacker from where....thats right yankee boy, UNC. ps parcells was just lucky to have bellichick or else he never would have won shit. like i said ray...eat shit.
Posted by: watchdoggin | Aug 22, 2008 2:25:13 PM
why do you go on panther blogs when you hate the panthers and the only comments you make are, panthers suck? youre a very sad and pathetic character watchdog.you need to get a life, job, and get out of the trailer park once in a while instead of hating on panther fans.pick a team and root for them but get off our blog.
