Notes from Sunday's practice
-- Tight end Dante Rosario and cornerback Chris Gamble, who have missed time recently with hamstring injuries, both practiced on a limited basis Sunday. Receiver Muhsin Muhammad (ribs) missed his second straight practice. Receiver D.J. Hackett (toe), safety Chris Harris (upper leg) and tight end Gary Barnidge (gluteal strain) also sat out. Receiver Ryne Robinson (leg) and defensive tackle Ian Scott (ankle) also missed practice.
-- With Robinson hurt and backup receiver Jason Carter looking unimpressive last week in Philadelphia, Fox said having rookie running back Jonathan Stewart return kicks Saturday against Washington is an “option.” Given how cautious the Panthers have been with Stewart and his surgically repaired toe this preseason, it would be a real surprise to see him in that role so soon.
-- Sunday was sponsor’s day at practice. There was lots of music playing as the sponsors and their families watched practiced from bleachers under tents next to the fields. Several players sat at tables afterward and signed autographs. Another sponsor’s day is scheduled for Monday. -- David Scott

If Stewarts toe is nothing to worry about but scar tissue, then why are they keeping him limited in all of the practices?
It shouldn't come as a surprise that a rookie (Stewart) struggled running the ball against Philly. Especially since he hasn't had the practice time as all of the other Rookies.
If his toe is fine, then put his tail on the practice field.

Give Moore the starting job with the 1st team and he will give up a better chance than Jake. Jake almost got Muhammad killed with that weak little lob pass.
He makes everyone just 10 feet into the air to make a catch. He will continue to fumble and throw interceptions.
I think we missed a chance to maybe go to the SB by not signing Favre and having Moore as the backup.
Jake will break our heart all season. Just wait and see.

I'm positive Stewart will be ready during the season and will be fine
Who I'm getting upset already at is Hackett. He's not practicing at all. At least Stewart is practicing and he had SURGERY. He has to practice now. At least be limited. Game time is already around the corner, and we are going to need him without Smith and maybe Ryne. He has no chemistry at all with the QB's
This is the time Jarrett can up his game and maybe get ahead of Hackett on the depth chart
Glad to see Rosario and Gamble back practicing

I agree about the stewart comment. If he is ok like they say hell let him start next week. Lets see what he can do. We seen what dlow had at start and he looks good at times. But he had the first team and more reps.

Hey manHore. While I agree with your passion for Delhomme I can't believe anyone would blog the words "Dumb Ass" with a spelling of "Dum Ass". Either go take a hooked on phonics course or use spell checker, dumb ass.

Matt Moore will get his chance, but Jake is our guy right now and will be for another 2-3 years if he stays healthy. Matt "Gimme Some" Moore just has to be polished up a little before he is a consistent starter. I like him though, he can definitely be our top choice in the near-future.

Delhomme's arm situation seems a little shaky to me. He didn't have a rifle to begin with, you gotta think he's not 100% from that. Fox probably thinks he can ball-control things and not rely in Jake's arm to win games. It they can establish a Steven Davis-era run offense, they can play that style. But if they can't run the Panthers O could be in trouble. I was not impressed with the O line against the Eagles, but Philly's defense is as good as any in the league.

i havent seen anything out of jake and its getting worrysome. he hasnt thrown a pass over 25 yards and buck even mentoined that all his passes are wobbly. i see no zip on his balls.you can fool the fans and media fox, but you cant fool the charger defense.moore had better be ready and fox better be ready to pull jake if he cant do it.

Ray,
Have you seen me throw this year besides in the pouring down rain? You know w/ the pouring down rain, wet ball, wet hands, lightning, etc, etc.....real wise of you to make your judgements on that. Have you seen the deep out patterns I threw all training camp? Have you heard the recievers praise the new arm and zip all offseason? Sounds to me like you are simply a hater.

On a note aside from football. Some of you guys show your real intelligence with all the language on this blog. This is why the commish had to put in fan rules. Can't you have a conversation without all the language?

From Ray: "i see no zip on his balls."
Did you remember to shave them first?

The Philly game was a horrible game for Foxy to have to evaluate. Rainy sloppy field. I will give them a pass just because of the playing conditions. Washington was a playoff team last year. If we play as badly this week, then I will be concerned.
I agree Stew needs to let the injury go, and give himself a chance to show his true skills. From all accounts he is physically ready, time for him to step up.
Jake needs WRs to throw to, until that happens all you haters will have ammunition. Jake is the emotional leader of this team, and he is a proven winner. That pass to Moose was thrown exactly where it needed to be. It took a great, but illegal, play by Dawkins to prevent a TD. I have no problem with people hating Jake. It is the unrealistic expectations, and unfounded accusations that bother me.
GO CATS! and JAKE!

for it to be sloppy conditions, Philly seemed to move the ball fairly well
Posted by: matt | Aug 18, 2008 3:39:16 PM
Its only preseason so it is way too early to be calling for Jake's head, however there is no way around it, he did not look very good against Philly and was dreadful in the first quarter. He did put it right on the money with that pass to Moose and improved his play in the second quarter which was slightly encouraging. The left side of the O-line didn't do much to help the situation either with false starts amd terrible blocking.

Hey, give Jake a break. It still preseason!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: greenstreet | Aug 18, 2008 8:00:07 PM
Moore DID get Smith knocked out of a game with his 10-foot-in-the-air "rocket." Muhammad got hurt because Dawkins ILLEGALLY hit him helmet-to-helmet. The pass was placed perfectly, Dawk's just a dirty player.
DI, if you knew anything about Tommy John surgery, you'd know that most people who get it come back with STRONGER arms than they had before.
And matt, if Philly was moving the ball so well, then why didn't they score a single point for the first 53 minutes of the game?

I LIKE MOORE BUT GIVE HIM A YEAR OR TWO JAKE IS BIG TIME UNDER RATED I DONT NO WHY PEOPLE HATE ON HIM SO MUCH THE HES HAD TWO YEARS THAT WAS NOT THE BEST BUT I DONT THANK THAT THAY WERE BECAUSE OF HIM. ONE YEAR WE HAD NO RUNING GAME OR MUHAMMAD TAKE THE RUNING GAME AWAY FROM A QB THE D WILL PLAY PASS ON EVERY DOWN IT DONT MATTER WHAT QB YOU HAVE THAY WILL NOT HAVE GOOD YEAR. THE OTHER YEAR O LINE WAS INJURED AND NO RUNING GAME
like i say when he retires people will no jake is big time under rated

GOOD WORK TYPING IN ALL CAPS FOR MOST OF THAT POST. PEOPLE JUST LOVE TO READ THAT. IT JUST ADDS SO MUCH TO YOUR STATEMENTS, YOU KNOW?
Seriously though, that game was a Panthers win in my mind, for whatever its worth (not much, preseason). The starters managed to put some points on the board and shut Philly down despite the absence of 3 of our top 4 receivers and our top 2 corners.
Procton, I wouldn't say Philly was moving the ball "well", but they weren't exactly going 3 and out the whole time either...they would have scored a couple times against our 1st team defense if not for Marshall's pick six and Akers missing a chip shot FG. And those who are worried about Jake's arm, you can't really read too much into his arm strength based on his throws in the Eagles game. His arm has looked strong in camp and the weak throws vs. Philly seemed to be more a product of the wet ball than anything else.

With the injuries but hitting the WR corps, what's the chances of the Panther brass going after Anquan Boldin?
Also, James Hasty of ESPN is a real turd! It's his kind of people that are the scourge of the Earth. In regards to the Bengals resigning Travis Henry he said, "Do you want character or do you want to win?" What is this punk smoking?! He might as well be saying, "Do you want character, or do you want money!" "Do you want character or do you want to sell crac and turn b*****s out?" WTF! Where does it end?!?
On that note, does Boldin have issues...??

Proc, who in the hell ever said they scored? Teams can move the ball without scoring...see the botched fake field goal.
Posted by: matt | Aug 19, 2008 8:33:38 AM
They did move the ball well, much better than we were, just because the scoreboard doesnt reflect it doesnt mean it didnt happen, now in defense of the Panthers they were 3/4 of their secondary was out of the game.

Panthers suck..get use to it.
