Observations from Tuesday's practice
-- With Damione Lewis and Maake Kemoeatu back from injury, the starting defensive line was intact for full-team drills. Adam Seward replaced Jon Beason (ankle) at middle linebacker, Terrence Holt took the place of Chris Harris (hamstring) at safety and Richard Marshall was in the injured Ken Lucas’s spot at cornerback.
-- Rookie offensive tackle Jeff Otah struggled a bit in a pass rushing-blocking drill. Defensive end Tyler Brayton beat him on one play, then linebacker Na’il Diggs blew past him on a quick move to the inside.
-- The Panthers worked on a two-minute drill late in practice. The first play was a double-reverse, which resulted in a fumble between Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad. Later, though, the offense clicked with Jake Delhomme completing two straight passes to tight end Jeff King. After rookie safety Charles Godfrey helped break up a pass intended for Smith, Delhomme hit Muhammad for what appeared to be a 25-yard touchdown pass to the side of the end zone. The Panthers defense insisted the Muhammad was out of bounds, however.
-- When offensive linemen move early in scrimmages, their punishment is to run a lap. Jeremy Bridges did so on one play, with his assignment being to pull and block. So, since he had already started running toward the sideline, he didn’t even break stride as he started his lap. – David Scott

This is all good stuff however I am awaiting to hear!! news that D. Jarrett is making! big plays....on the practice field. it would do so much for this team this year and beyond if he could become a play maker like he was in college and not just another USC bust....I know he doesnt have great speed but neither does plaxico....so I'd appreciate ANY!! thing Jarrett does..good..
Im talking if he caught the water bottle someone threw to him that's news to me! lol

Any update on Robinson's injury?
Posted by: JR | Aug 5, 2008 8:11:05 PM
Hmm...so Otah struggles in pass pro? I've heard somebody talking about that since, say, the minute we drafted him. Sure sounds like a future stud LT to me!

good call procton, lets discard Otah after a week worth of training

He's a rookie. Practice makes perfect. He will be fine
I sure would have loved to see that 2 minute drill

D Jarrett can't carry me

Yeah he couldn't carry mine last year. D Jarret sucks worse than me! At least I made it on the field my rookie year. Go Broncos!

Let's hear more about the #1 pick, how's he doing, barely anything written about Stewart. Is he getting it? Can he protect the QB? We know he can run but why aren't hearing about it?

Is that all some of you losers know how to do, complain about one player or another. Jarrett and especially Otah, will do fine this season. Jarrett's been having a solid TC being used as a possession WR and Otah is going to mess up every once a while, he's rookie. Some of you little cry babies need to grow up! Thanks Mr. Scott for the update, you guys have been doing a good job at it.

Jonathan Stewart sat out the 3:10 practice to run, bike, and take notes from the coaching staff. He was nice enough to sign autographs afterwards and said that someone before practice cussed him out because he wouldn't sign. His response to that was "People have got to realize that we're trying to stay focused."
To whoever did that, to our first round pick, show some class!!! Come on, they are a FOOTBALL TEAM, not some person's ticket to easy money on eBay. Don't mess with their practice time guys, they are professional athletes. They don't owe us anything.
And I am convinced that Jason Carter is making this team. He has made some dazzling plays throughout camp. I can't wait to see what he can do against the Colts. The same goes for DJ, who has been less spectacular, to my chagrin.

Michael Procton can lick my ball sac.

Yes, we wouldn't want to hurt somebody's feelings by mentioning the TERRIBLE trade we made for an average player. We can bash Panthers stalwarts like Dan Morgan, Mike Minter, and Mike Rucker, all of whom were part of the greatest successes this team has ever achieved and shower future Hall of Fame-worthy press upon an undrafted rookie QB who leads his team to 13 PPG and a 1:4 TD:INT ratio against the only starters he plays against. And I'm the "Panther hater." Please.

Hmmm, Otah has a few struggles at RT in a pass blocking drill which obviously means he will be a bust and is terrible. Peppers blows by Gross and then the next play bull rushes him back and absolutely dominates him in a pass blocking drill last week, I guess that means Gross is terrible as well. I guess we should cut them both huh Procton?

People only bring up stuff like that when it is convenient for their argument. I doubt that if the training camp report said that Otah did great during pass blocking drills that Procton would have said he had the wrong impression about Otah...

Well, we didn't have a whole hell of a lot of a choice with Gross once we franchised him. But here's what we DID have a choice about: we could have, say, left Gross on the right side, where he's a PROVEN All-Pro caliber RT, kept Wharton on the left side, where he's a PROVEN adequate starting LT and would only have improved with consecutive seasons at the same position (think that would have helped Gross too?) and a further year of recovery from his knee injury. Instead, we have Gross at LT (where he HAS been pretty terrible in the past) and a total question mark at RT in Otah. Think it would have been nice to have that 4th or 2nd round pick so we could have picked up, say, Trevor Laws or Pat Sims to use instead of Gary freaking Gibson? Or maybe a Calais Campbell or Chris Ellis to work into the DE rotation? Owen Schmitt or Jacob Hester to have finally had an heir apparent to Hoover at FB? I guess we'll never know, because we'll be giving an affirmative action candidate (before you go there, that's about experience and draft pick, not race) a chance for some awesome "on-the-job training" which'll put Jake on his back more than a few times. We better hope this Barnidge kid has gotten better at blocking, because they'll need to leave that TE in next to Otah most of the time.
Oh, and P.S.: as mediocre as Peppers is in real games against veteran starters, there's a big difference in him making you look bad and Na'il Diggs and his 5.5 sacks in the last 5 years or Tyler Brayton and his ZERO sacks since 2005.

I'm sorry guy's I've been a little stressed out since my boyfriend left me. I know how it feels to have your feelings hurt. Please forgive as I already have.

Hmm...I'm "such a tool," and a "loser" yet you're the one on here who has nothing football-related to contribute whatsoever. Oh, and as for that "all parties" bit:
"By the way,
Just wanted to thank Sypis, Procton, matt and a few others for getting me through the off season. All though you guys catch alot of flack, you kept things interesting during the deadest time of year. I'm serious, thanks!!!!"

Procton,
I've heard at Philly's camp that Laws has looked and played undersized and has been pushed around since the moment he got to camp. From the sound of that, I don't think he would be able to us help out....And why would we want more rookie DE's when we already have a couple of young and talented guys, which would just impede their progress?? Not sure about your strategic thinking on that one....
Cheers,

so otah has one tough practice in 100 deg heat and now hes a bum. where were you when it was being reported earlier in camp that otah was stonewalling brayton.predictably silent, huh procton. wharton sucked at l.t. thats why they moved him . lets not let the facts get in the way procton. the fact that the coaching staff felt the team needed a change at l.t. of course you know more than fox and davidson.you watch a lot more coaches film . excuse me, where was your last coaching job?
Posted by: ray | Aug 6, 2008 11:14:08 AM
Interesting that you've heard that, MB, given that Laws hasn't practiced yet with a toe injury. Is he being pushed around on the exercise bike? Also, since when is more talent a bad thing? Neither Johnson nor McClover has exactly proven anything.
ray, Wharton didn't "suck" any more at LT than Gross ever has on that side. And, again, he would have been almost guaranteed to improve by finally being allowed to play the same position in consecutive years (just like Gross would have been) and being one year further removed from his surgery.

Its crazy to make a determination of whether a player is NFL caliber or not based on training camp. But just as I get ticked at Procton to come on here and slam Otah for getting burnt twice, it is equally bad to say that guys like Taye Biddle and Jason Carter could be great NFL players just because that had great camps.
Posted by: matt | Aug 6, 2008 11:44:11 AM
Laws did practice yesterday. Please check your records...
Posted by: Michael Bolton | Aug 6, 2008 1:56:44 PM
If a guy wants top 5 tackle dollars, I think he should be able to play a more than adequate LT instead of maybe the 3rd to 5th best RT. But thats beside the point, you read a couple of comments about Otah having some problems pass blocking and immediately are calling him a failure. I am saying that Gross has been manhandled by a tarheel, should he receive the same treatment from you or as always are your posts completely biased without consideration to anything outside of your pee-sized brain.
Posted by: Mason | Aug 6, 2008 2:02:27 PM
Umm...since when did Gross "want top 5 tackle dollars?" I haven't heard him make any such statement. Oh, and perhaps your reading skills have failed you again? I provided consideration towards Gross' inferiority as a player on the left side and Peppers' superiority to Diggs and Brayton. Had nothing to do with where he went to school.

Also, you're the one (AGAIN), throwing around personal attacks towards other posters. I'm just talking football.
