Not too bad. Really thin at some positions...that's a gamble.

Posted by: David | Aug 30, 2008 9:18:57 PM

do we really need 9 DB's??? what do other teams normally keep? (jk but do any of them play WR?)
Let'em play!!!
or at least Expand game day rosters to 50
this is my new kick, if I harp on it all year all over the web, maybe they'll finally chage it for next year!

Am I the only one who has a problem with Josh McCown being picked up and Breznak (forgive the spelling please)being release.

I dont know there is something mildly disturbing about seeing 4 people to kick a freaking ball?!?!?!

Posted by: catdawgman | Aug 30, 2008 9:36:08 PM

I dont want to jump to conclusions but i have to. This unit looks very strong. One point I want to make is that we have a good good chance of winning against SAN DIEGO if hackett is clear, without steve obviously. The preseason showed me the Panthers are def ready for Playoffs whats funny is nobody thinks we'll pan out ok.....thats a good thing cuz when ppl say were goin to the super bowl we dont make the playoffs haha. But i want to have the metality and boldness Im ready for PANTHER FOOTBALL!

Posted by: paul | Aug 30, 2008 9:39:49 PM

@catdawgman, not 4 its 3 and most teams usually keep 2 a punter and kicker duhhh..and the reason we kept rhys was because he can kick the ball deep on kickoffs unlike john kasay..but john kasay is still a reliable field goal kicker which is important to keep.

Posted by: panther4life | Aug 30, 2008 9:46:48 PM

actualy it's 4 counting the long snapper, that is probably what they meant, cna't any of the 9 lineman snap! obviosuly not another reason we need 50 on game days
1K 1P 1LS 1 KR 1 PR 1 extra
2x11offense plus 3rd QB
2x11 defense
= 51
NFL needs to expand rosters to 55 and dress 50 for game days and get rid of injured reserve in a modern salary cap era

Posted by: Isaiah | Aug 30, 2008 9:52:45 PM

panther4life - duhh...u ever heard of Jason Kyle...duhh....ever seen him block anyone, catch a pass, tackle...duhh...if you've been a panther 4 life, you must not be old enough to know better..its still a roster spot, they still take a helmet away from someone else on Sundays jackA

Posted by: catdawgman | Aug 30, 2008 9:53:29 PM

ryhss lloyd was consistently putting the ball deep into the end zone. when returners did bring the ball out they were being tackled at or near the 20.ryhs is a huge weapon. instead of going 60 yards to score teams will have to go 80 yards and get 2 more first downs.good call panthers.

I am a Panthers fan that bleeds panther's colors! If you cannot see this team for what it is and who it's fans are, take your negativity and go root for Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, etc... This team looks pretty darn good and barring injuries are going to do very well!

good moves and one bad move go after ashely leie at wide reciver

Posted by: jamie | Aug 30, 2008 10:07:14 PM

People no one said Rhys suckz, he's awesome and a great weapon, it stills seems a bit weird that of the 46 guys who dress on Sundays we'll use ~10% of our roster spots for kicking....kickers arent real football players (sorry Kasay) May not seem significant now, but when injuries happen and they will...well im not saying im just saying....

Posted by: catdawgman | Aug 30, 2008 10:08:15 PM

I have an off the subject question that maybe one of you guys can help me with. Why are the ticketexchange ticket prices way over face value plus $3 this year? Last year it was great to buy tickets legally at reasonable prices, now they are offering upper level for over $100. What gives???

Posted by: Lvis | Aug 30, 2008 10:12:02 PM

Let me beat a dead horse to emphasize my point, we have as people many to kick or help kick the ball as safeties, as DE's, DT's and more than we do QB's or guards!!!

go after delth o neil at conner back, and chris sim at otherback, and lasty cut matt moore

pardon my typing but the correct word is quatherback, and cornerback

10% of 46 is 4.6%

Posted by: ray | Aug 30, 2008 10:27:02 PM

sorry,10%of 46 is 4.6.so the 3 kickers account for a lot less than 10% of the active roster.

@ dpanther69 & his kind...

Even though they both Jake and Josh have 7-year careers, Delhomme started twice as many games. They both have practically identical completion percentages. Delhomme threw 50% more INT's. However, staying on track with his current pace, McCown would have thrown for more if they played the same amount of games. Jake has 47 fumbles; 22 of them were lost. Josh has fumbled 39 times, losing 14 of them.

However, who's to say that McCown would not have gotten better with more experience (just like Jake did)? But let's not overlook those who are irate that McCown was kept over Bassanez. Would you really start Brett over Jake (or a Jake-like Josh McCown)??

So if there are any of you that are going to throw a fit after seeing the numbers put up by Charles Chandler, or that Brett got cut, please check yourselves: especially if you're a Jake fan. Thanks.

In short, this was a brilliant move by Fox & company. They have just added a legitimate insurance policy at QB for a great price in terms of salary cap and trade value. McCown is poised to be the next Panther QB "of the future." So as far as I'm concerned, this was a steal (just like Harris was; and many of you were mocking that aquisition as well)!!!

I am a little annoyed that Terrance Holt got cut though. Maybe it's my Carolina pride getting in the way, but I liked him on the roster.

Posted by: SYRPIS | Aug 30, 2008 10:46:05 PM

Wait a minut---!!! Maybe I should read before I write, but... they kept salley over Holt!!?!?!!! AaArrrrghhh!h!! #$^%#&*!!! Arrrhhhh!!! $^%&$$*!!!

Posted by: SYRPIS | Aug 30, 2008 10:47:52 PM

It's real hard being a Panther fan sometimes...

Posted by: SYRPIS | Aug 30, 2008 10:48:50 PM

Ray Ray, lets count together: Rhys Lloyd = 1, John Kasay = 1, Jason Baker = 1, Jason Kyle = 1; add those together and you get...thats right 4! 4 goes into 46 how many times? Thats right 8.7, notice the "~". If yer mad cuz yer a VT fan or Clemson fan...take it out on your kids.
