Panthers waive OT Spencer; sign Riley
SPARTANBURG -- Coach John Fox said the Panthers waived offensive tackle Charles Spencer on Thursday. Spencer, a former starter with the Houston Texans who has a history of knee problems, was signed before training camp.
Fox said Spencer's knee wasn't an issue. "It was more about conditioning and weight," Fox said of Spencer, who is listed as 6-foot-4, 338 pounds.
The Panthers replaced Spencer by signing Rueben Riley, who was on the team's practice squad last season and waived recently. -- David Scott

Does anyone know if that is the guy from the limo article?

Maybe that was why he was at the practice the other day

The Panthers need to pick up Chad Pennington as a back-up to Jake. We know Jkae had surgery and if he goes down we are in troble.

Why pick up Pennington to back up Jake? Pennington has a horrible injury history and Matt Moore looked good last year. No reason to pick up Pennington.

Pennington had a $10 million dollar cap figure in New York. Why would you want to pay that for a backup?

Because Pennington has actual NFL experience in games that matter? And CPF, it doesn't matter what his contract was in NY. It's null and void, and he'll sign for FAR cheaper than that. Probably something like Rex Grossman's 1 year, $3.4 mil deal.
