Quick analysis of cuts

Initial impressions of the Panthers cut list:

Biggest surprise: Defensive end Stanley McClover. The Panthers kept rookie Hilee Taylor instead. Though McClover is probably better now, team officials like Taylor's upside and were pleased with his play in the preseason.

Biggest no-brainer: After Ricardo Colclough's arrest on a DWI charge, the Panthers had no choice to let him go, and did.

Biggest surprise, Part II: The number of veterans who didn't make the team. Safety Terrence Holt, guards Toniu Fonoti and Milford Brown, and the fact that wide receivers Travis Taylor and Samie Parker were BOTH cut.

Biggest impact of Rhys Lloyd staying: Lloyd was kept around for kickoffs, with John Kasay doing the field goals and PATs. The extra person forced the Panthers to go with only four running backs -- DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Brad Hoover and Nick Goings. Sure seems like they need to add another.

Best candidates for practice squad: QB Brett Basanez, DT Nick Hayden, OT Geoff Schwartz, RB Decori Birmingham.

Maybe Colcough will find Jesus since he just cost himself a job, and a boatload of future connectons for after football. (These athletes need to hire a freaking taxi, it may seem hypocritical, but Jarrett's was off season, not on the eve of cuts and the season, these guys need to honor there bodies that give them the job in the first place)
If Taylor and McClover are close, then good choice, cause McClover was all bark and no bite! So D. Thompson is our extra guy while Smith suspended?
Whose gonna be the wrie surprise?

Charles,

Did you mean that Stanley McClover is better Known. I would hate to think that Stanley is better now. I mean it does "Suck" losing your job. However, I am glad to see Hilee make the team. In my honest opinion, he reminds me of a smaller Julius Peppers. And, No, not the one that showed up last year. The one before and the one that has showed up so far this year.

Emphasis on the word "now."

Dogear, How do you think Stanley is better "now". How do you justify putting an emphasis on that? Will someone pick him up and give him a better opportunity?

I am glad to see they kept Dominique Thompson over the other two. To me, that is the biggest surprise: not because of their performance comparison, but because it's uncharacteristic of Fox to keep someone like that around over seasoned veterans.
I do agree letting Brown & Fonoti go over Amiolaayayaya (or whatever his name is) is a big surprise.

I also agree about the no-brainer with Retardo Caughtblow .08

I also like the picks for the practice squad. Didn't they increase the number of players allowed for that last year though??

NO Ashley Lelie was an absolute bust and is no good.

Four RBs does seem a little sparse, however, they might be able to stick with that group because Goings can play either tailback or fullback. If not, hey, Rudi Johnson's available.

No on Lelie, by the way.
