Remember Garo?

Finally, there are points in the Panthers-Eagles exhibition, and they came in a fashion that brings back memories of a historic play that happened 35 years ago.

For some reason, Eagles coach Andy Reid chose trickery over a rather easy 34-yard field goal attempt by the highly-reliable David Akers. Instead, holder Sav Rocco tried to flip a pass to tight end Brent Celek.

Problem was, Carolina defensive back Richard Marshall sniffed the whole thing out, intercepting the pass and romping 78 yards through the rain to a touchdown.

John Kasay's kick made it 7-0 Panthers.

The play was reminiscent of the wobbly pass Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian threw in Super Bowl VII in January 1973. On a busted field goal attempt, Yepremian picked up the ball and tried to throw. Redskins DB Mike Bass intercepted and returned it for a touchdown.

The play gave Washington its only points in a 14-7 loss to the Dolphins, whose victory completed a 17-0 season.

Will Jake complete a first down this year?

Posted by: jason | Aug 14, 2008 9:49:13 PM

whatchu talkin bout? Jake has looked very good.

Oh shit, Jake just threw a pass that led Moose to get drilled across the middle in the end zone. In Procton's logic, Jake should be cut b/c he threw a pass that left his WR defenseless.

On a more realistic note, Williams made a beautiful cut on that 25 yard run on the last drive.

I guess thats sarcasm, but in my opinion, that was a perfect throw, just a vicious helmet to helmet hit by Dawkins.

That was a sweet run by Williams, he had good blocking, but HE was the reason it was a great run.

Check it out...the reason Mushin was allowed to go in the first place...he can't catch a cold in a winter storm...can't catch a spiral on a pretty day either. Still droppin' em.

3rd and 20 and they run it.. are you kidding me? seriously.. really? to be that conservative in just the preseason is not a good preview.

Zach....like you said, its preseason, why go for it?

Note to Mason and Briscoe: DeSean Jackson thinks Nick Goings is a pretty good special teams player. Also...another very impressive Magical Disappearing Man act by Pep.

To be fair, the effort is there with Peps, and they seem to have been at least doubling him on nearly every passing down.

And didnt Dante Wesley cause the fumble.

Anybody else think Goings looks smaller than in the past?

Posted by: KCPanther | Aug 14, 2008 11:27:26 PM

I just meant the play where he blew Jackson up on the first punt.

And the pass to Muhammad was fine...not 3 feet above his head like Moore to Smitty. And...did anybody notice that he was...insanely inaccurate?

Procton vs peppers in the cage pay per view. I would watch this.

Haha...that'd be fun...the one thing I could count on? Peppers not to show up.
