Scott gone
Practice notes from Wednesday:
-- DT Ian Scott was released with an injury settlement. Team officials felt he wouldn't be ready for the start of the season due to his ongoing recovery from an MCL knee sprain.
This adversely affects the quality of DT depth behind starters Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis. Gary Gibson probably benefits most, becoming the No. 4 DT option, with Darwin Walker No. 3.
Look for the Panthers to add a DT soon, perhaps after other teams make final cuts.
-- Rookie TE Gary Barnidge returned to practice after missing extended time with a glute injury.
-- Charles Chandler

Why do they have to say "glute?"
Why can't they just say "his ass hurts?"

Scott hasn't played in 2+ years

Charles, Whatever happened to Jordan Carstens? I knew he was ill and never returned. Is he available, retired, unable to perform? I remember he played well at DT. He might be a solution to this problem.

why do they say matt is brain dead even though he has no brain?

Watchdoggin,
Yep, I saw that too and was worried there for a minute. But I'm still hanging in.

Carstens never got medical clearance to play again. He had to be on blood thinners for his kidney condition, which would have been dangerous in the event he had gotten cut.

Are they expected to carry 5 DTs? I think that was the number last year but don't remember. Somewhere they have to create a spot for Rhys.
Anyone know if the rookie DT (hayden?) has shown anything at camp?

Anybody see David Carr's new haircut? Man, he looks like he's five.

They usually carry 9 DLs, one of whom (Brayton?) can be a swing guy and go DT or DE. Hayden and Williams are supposedly fighting for that last spot, but I think Hayden would get the spot because he's a draft pick and would probably be cheaper. However, they might just cut Hayden because he'd have more PS eligibility than Williams would.
