1st Quarter Summary

Score: Panthers 7, Falcons 3

Jonathan Stewart scored on an 8-yard touchdown run and the Panthers had another TD called back because of a penalty.

Stewart's score came at the end of an 80-yard drive. It was his fourth TD of the season.

Earlier, Carolina defensive back Richard Marshall appeared to score on a touchdown on an interception return, but the play was nullified because Panthers' defensive end Julius Peppers was called for roughing the passer.

Atlanta scored on a 33-yard field goal by Jason Elam.

The Panthers outgained the Falcons 95-69 yards in the period and had one more first down (7-6) than Atlanta.

Carolina left tackle Jordan Gross suffered a head injury early in the period and was carted off the field. He won't return today.

Absolutely horrible, horrible call on Peppers' hit. Cost us a touchdown! Ed Hochuli needs to be fired.... second blown call in two weeks. I don't usually gripe about calls unless OBVIOUS, but that one was RIDICULUS! F the refs!
