Panthers logo on the field

The Panthers' logo won't be at midfield this season, as some petitioners wanted, but it is being added to the Bank of America Stadium field decor.

The Panther logo is situated between the 20- and 30-yard lines on both sides of the field and already has been painted on the turf for Sunday's regular-season home opener against the Chicago Bears.

The NFL emblem remains at midfield, representing owner Jerry Richardson's commitment to the league overall.

Old news. We've known that for a while Charles. I'm still glad that we're getting our Panther emblems though. It gives us a sense of individuality, and moves us away from being 'just' a expansion team. The NFL emblem can stay as far as I'm concerned, we should show them respect for helping us get our football team.

Just my opinion though. What do all of you guys think?

According to "Roar" magazine, the black of the Panthers logo would damage the turf over the course of the season...so no logo at midfield

Posted by: larry wilson | Sep 11, 2008 4:38:28 PM

dont buy that black paint excuse from the magazine. what about the raiders. their logo is mostly black and is on a grass field just like here in charlotte. how about the nfl logo on the 20 or 30 and a panther logo at midfield. this is the home of the panthers, not the league headquarters.

Charles probably didn't bother posting until now, because IT'S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL.

How about you move to Oakland?

Posted by: brendan's mother | Sep 11, 2008 5:03:03 PM

It's a definite step in the right direction. However, the team using that field is the most important issue.

GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is put in the center of the field is irrelevant...how about putting the Top Cat of the week on there. Jerry owns the team and can put whatever he wants to in the center. What the field looks like should be the fans last concern.....but again, maybe it's the "whine and cheese" folks worrying about it or the the "boo birds" because they forget who's playing and need a reminder. More importantly, which WR/TE will have a big game against the Bears D? I'm predicting Jarrett will have more receptions than Moose or Hackett. Moose, obvisouly, will not be allowed to show up his ex teamates and Hackett is not 100%. Of course, Rosario, still fresh off his latest success may fly under the radar and not taken seriously. I think the running game may not be as good because of their D. We'll see, but I agree, if we can play well back to back agaisnt SD and CHI, then our confidence will be up there. This game is about Confidence as the great John Fox says...it is what it is. GO PANTHERS!

This is about big Jerry's damn ego. He needs to pay homage to the fans that built the stadim, not the damn NFL chronies.

PSL since 96

i think rosario will have another big game. moose says hes ready to perform against his old team. i really hope they run the ball alot more. also look for harris to have a field day.

I agree this issue is about Richardson's stubbornness. He seems to have forgotten who delivered that stadium to the Panthers and it wasn't him or the NFL. Give the fans what they want Jerry.

Ummmmm, tarniner, are you referring to Jerry Jones? Because I don't know a single person that has ever accussed Richardson of having an ego problem. And if he did have an ego problem don't you think he would put the panthers logo at midfield. Instead he has an attitude of appreciation for the league giving him a franchise and pays respect to the league, not making it about himself. Do you need someone to explain to you the definition of ego? Carolina Wind is right, who care what is at midfield? Would you rather us go to the playoffs and have a blank field or go 8-8 and have a panther head that covers half the field, I am sure you would feel good and proud for the later.

PSL since 95 (thats longer than you, so I am obviously smarter)

Posted by: Dwayne | Sep 12, 2008 8:55:07 AM

not if your last name is Jarrett

Posted by: Wes | Sep 12, 2008 9:27:51 AM

We've been getting ripped off buy the PSL thing since 95. We should be able to get a damn logo for all the money we spend. Not to mention all the damn commercials we have to watch while we are there. Jerry forgets who butters his bread.

i am also glad that they dont have that green painted sand at midfield from endzone to endzone(2001 or so). they played green bay that year and morgan got hurt because of the bad field instead of a concussion. and why does the field look more brown and grey they green? seems the logo not being on the filed isnt the only issue with the grass here. how about a compromise: if the grass is so low quality that it cant handle black paint how about they use the minimal logo like the car window stickers i see all the time. its just the wiskers, eyes, and teeth without the outline of the head? you could make it blue.

Anybody see my Tar Heels last night DOMINATE Rutgers? Peppers is pumped and ready for a huge game this week. I heart him! Now, if they can just get that speedster H. Taylor in we'll be all set! GO UNC!

Posted by: Michael Procton | Sep 12, 2008 10:35:55 AM

How about they just paint the whisker outline at mid field? Pretty much every fan in the Carolinas (and even this one in DC) has one of these decals on their cars, so why not one at midfield?

The NFL logo should be mandatory at midfield for all teams. Old school rules !!

Posted by: JoePro | Sep 12, 2008 11:10:16 AM

Chris - if you think you're getting "ripped off" by buying a PSL - the answer is simple, DON'T BUY ONE! I agree with Dwayne here, and have tremendous respect for Richardson even taking into account the Panther's fans request and putting the logo on the 20 and 30. As we all should have appreciation for the NFL - I find it completeley acceptable to have the logo of the league on midfield.

Posted by: jb | Sep 12, 2008 11:27:29 AM

I really think that the NFL could care less weather or not the Panthers have the logo on thier field. NFL is the most popular sport out there, so they dont need the help.
I think Jerry had good intentions but he's got to understand to that the fans also pay some of the bills and he has to make it fun and excited so people want to buy an over priced ticket to come to the game.
Heck I'm not a Bosie State fan, but if it was close to home here, I would defently buy a ticket just to see that blue field.

Posted by: LyleStyle | Sep 12, 2008 11:58:24 AM

Although, this is Jerry's team by ownership,it's the fan's team by placement and loyalty. On the 50 yard line is where the logo should be, and no where else!!!

Posted by: harrydog | Sep 12, 2008 12:03:42 PM

Oh yea, I would settle for the whiskers on the 50 yard line !!

Posted by: harrydog | Sep 12, 2008 12:07:43 PM

Who cares what is at midfield?

Posted by: Matt | Sep 12, 2008 1:07:17 PM

Honestly, people, give it a rest. It doesn't make a d@mn bit of difference what is on the field. If that's what defines your in-stadium experience, then don't go. If you want to change it from the shield, gather yourself about $750 mil, buy the team, and do it.

Brendan, the field has been rated among the top 2-3 surfaces in the NFL in the players' survey since that 2001 debacle. The organization was very embarrassed, and have never overloaded the stadium schedule like that since.

And god, yes...what a GAME for UNC against Rutgers. If they're able to look so good against a team coming off an impressive 24-7 home loss against a powerhouse like Fresno State, imagine how they'll look if they get to play a scrub like McNeese State. Oh, wait...

Hey, look! I found Procton's head! It's up his ass again! You won't believe what else is up there, too!

Looks like Wharton is out (doubtful) and Hangartener had an "illness" and didn't practice however is listed as probable. Rosario listed as questionable and will be a game time decision.....is there a reason the observer is so late in reporting all this?
