Answering your questions

Question: What do panthers have to do today that they were not able to do in the past to stop Jeff Garcia and beat the Bucs? John

The

Panthers need to make sure he doesn't beat them with his feet. It helps that they're probably more athletic on defense this year than they've been in quite some time. Thomas Davis could be assigned to keep a spy's eye on him. – CHARLES

Question: Hey guys, I love your blog, it gets me through the week! Anyway, why has it taken so long for the media to get that this is a good team. You guys seem to be the only ones who think the Cats are one of the elite. Pat Yasinskas, formerly of this prestigious paper, and now of ESPN seems to be shouting it from the rooftops, even writing about how the NFC South is the strongest division after the NFC East. They're ranked 6th in the power rankings, yet no one looks at them seriously. What's with that? Dakota G.

I don't necessarily agree about that. Take a look at the other power rankings on ESPN, CBS Sportsline, etc. I think most all have the Panthers in the top 7 or so. If Carolina wins this week, AT Tampa, you'll almost certainly start hearing more about them. I agree with you about our man Pat Yaz. He's doing a great job. - CHARLES

Question: Do you think the panthers will be involved in any trades before Tuesday deadline? Napolean

Napolean: Probably not. There hasn't been much talk about it and the Panthers seem to be set at their key spots. -- DAVID

Question: Who will be weeping at the end of this game? Revshawn

Revshawn: My prediction: Panthers, 21-10; Scott Fowler's 17-16 Tampa; Charles' Tampa 17-14; Steve Reed, Gaston Gazette, 23-30 Panthers. DAVID

Questions: Why has the Panthers coaching staff not utilized Stewart to wear down the D's and then put DeAngelo in the use his speed against a worn down D? Can Jarret break out today and have some key 3rd-down catches or will it be Mark Jones? RK

RK: My take on that is that you want the bruiser in there late in the game, punishing the defense physically. Let them run themselves out chasing DeAngelo early. I think we'll see Jarrett ahead of Jones today, just a hunch. He's bigger and a better target, and they really need to see what he can do. -- DAVID

Question: Why does it always seem like people jump on the bandwagon when we win even if the talent isn't as super as lets just say the Patriots or San Diego ... people always sell our Cats short on everything ... They never get the spotlight nationally for any reason until we blow someone out. Why? Peppers and the 'D' will be fine because that's what Foxy brings to the table. Just get the offense clicking and we've got it - we might not win all but we will dominate more than our fair share. Ricky

Ricky: That's just the nature of fans! But you're right, the Panthers seem to do better when they don't have a ton of expectations. As evidenced two years ago when everybody thought they'd make the Super Bowl and they finished 8-8. DAVID

Questions: In your opinion, what are Tampa Bay's weaknesses at this point in the season...i.e., where should the Panthers attack (on offense and defense)? Also, with some of the Bucs receivers injured, can Carolina focus more attention on containing Tampa's run game and Garcia's mobility? Or should they focus on blitzing Garcia so he can't get into a rhythm with the passing game and then clamp down on the RBs? NSpicer

NSpicer: The Bucs defense has been suspect against the pass. So if the Panthers pound the run early, then start throwing to Smith and Muhammad, that could hurt Tampa. Defensively, Tampa doesn't really have much of a deep game, especially with Joey Galloway out. So stop the run and dare them to throw. But be careful of Jeff Garcia's mobility! -- DAVID

Questions: How does Mackenzy Berandaueo look taking snaps at center in practice? Does he seem like he will do well if called upon today? If Dwayne Jarett plays well today, what are the chances that the Panthers will trade Hackett away to the Bucs before they even leave Tampa? Keeping It Real

KIR: Bernadeau's active because of all the injuries and he'd probably fill in for Geoff Hangartner if something happened to him. Not sure the Bucs would be interested in the injury-plagued Hackett now. -- DAVID

Here we go again. Journeyman Garcia picks apart the Panthers. We obviously didn't come prepared to play today. It's frustrating but this is what separates the Panthers from the elite teams. They do not play consistently the same, game in and game out.
