Answering your post-game questions
Here are Charles Chandler's answers to the questions you posted after the game:
Q. Any word on the seriousness of Moose's injury?
Posted by: Antmanc |
A: He should be fine. He came back into the game after injuring his knee.
------------------------
Who was responsible for that blocked Punt? If its Goings again, then he needs to go...
Posted by: WRAPPEDinBACON |
A: Best we can tell, it was Dante Rosario.
------------------
Q: How many sacks, hurries or hits did the Bucs get on Jake today? Did anybody other than Gross get a false start (or an OL penalty of any kind)?
Posted by: Keeping It Real |
A: The Panthers' O-line gave up no sacks. The only faslse starts were once each by by Gross and TE Jeff King.
----------------------
Q: Do you think we should use this game as a reason for some trades? I say trade Jeff Davidson and 2010's first and second round picks for Jason Garret, and the rest of our '09 draft picks for Jim Johnson.
Posted by: capfolly |
A: As you know, that's not going to happen! Also, remember how good you felt last week. Neither that game nor this one is fully indicative of where the team stands.
-----------------------
Q: DO YOU THINK they should should have someone doing the play calling, seems to me they need some tips on that stuff?
Posted by: paul |
A: Jeff Davidson calls the offensive plays. This wasn't one of his, or anybody else's, better days.
------------------------------------
Q. What going on with our special teams??? Another poor performance today!
Can we finally say that Dwayne Jarrett was a total waste of a draft pick? He needs to be inactive for every game going forward. How many more opportunities does this guy get?
A: Special teams are struggling, for sure, especially the punting team (three blocks already). They've got to closely examine what the problem is.
As for Jarrett, no way to say he's a total bust. He's only played three games this season. He was one of many who played poorly today.
-------------------------
Q. Didn't we bring Jones here to return the ball instead of acting like he's going to catch it then run away from it?
A: He does that when he's trying to make the defense he's going to fair catch, then hurriedly runs out of the way. That gives them less of a chance to down the ball.
-------------------------
Q. Is it me or is Fox way to conservative ? It's not like we don't have the fire power.
A: The Panthers have talent, but what did you see today that looked like "Fire" power?
-------------------------
Q. Will we ever have healthy o -line?
A: Good question. The Panthers haven't made it through ANY halves with the starting line intact this season. They should have Otah back next week. Not sure about Kalil, however.

Ok, time for conspiracy theories. Last night the Panthers were at their hotel, and suddenly a grand storm of bandits charged the hotel, captured the whole team and hid them away underground. They forced the coaches at gunpoint to participate in the press conferences before and after the game, and then they stole the Panthers Jersies.
So then they print out the face of all of the players on the Panthers and they tape them to their faces. What? You didn't notice it? That's because you don't have HD TV.
Anyway, so they bribe the NFL in order to show cutscenes of John Fox and the coaching staff on the sidelines in previous games, and everything else is photoshopped.
There is just no way that I can believe that the Carolina Panthers we have been watching these last 5 weeks are the same Panthers that have been playing the entire season. Something is wrong....someone drugged them or something.
Is this game a coincidence....or a conspiracy?

Rev,
You are sounding more and more like KIR. Please self medicate less or more (depending on what you are currently doing) That was one of the more stupid posts I have read....not quite up there with KIR, but real, real close. Stop while you are ahead. That is not a stat you wish to claim. Just read previous posts of all his bashings lol.

Oh cmon Josh and James. I'm just joking around and making light of a horrible game. Honestly, did the team that took the field today play anything like the Panthers of the first 5 games?
Stop being so critical. Kick back and relax a little bit. Enjoy the forums and laugh a little. It was a crazy game, so I think that I should be able to reserve the right to be a little crazy as well.
Posted by: Revshawn | Oct 12, 2008 8:52:25 PM
Its hard to kick back and relax a little bit when the Panthers just completely and utterly self-destructed against our toughest division opponent.
Posted by: chris | Oct 12, 2008 9:13:57 PM
chris , you sure got that right. so how bout it guys. did everyone keep their eyes on "one play ' peppers today. How bout those run-bys he had out there today? don't have to worry about gettin hurt on that play. right pep? And how bout staying locked up with a o-lineman just long enough for the play to pass you by? we see what you're doing. used to be, you would follow the rb into the hole and try to strip the ball. guess those days are gone now that you're gettin the big bucks and all. And hey guys, have you noticed how the more ink the media gives lucas, the more room he gives the reciever and the fewer tackles he makes. Send these two paycheck players packing along with that idiot of an offensive cordinator and speacial teams coach. ps - also, wouldn't it be nice if foxie would quit cheerleading so much and get back to watching whats working and whats not working and then making the adjustment like he did in his earlier years?

RE: to my John Fox question and Jones. Steve Smith ,Muhammad ,Williams ,Stewart, is the fire power. But being down and finally getting some momentum(Steve Smiths catch that got us near the end zone)then the old settling for a field goal.At least if we didnt get a touchdown they would have been pinned in our territory. Then we get the ball on the one and we run it up the middle 3 times because it's "safe".I would of at least passed it once.I mean it cant be more dangerous than punting it back there especially with our punt problems. We also had 2 timeouts to try and get in field goal range before the half. But no confidence to try it.this is coming from someone who has took up for Fox mind you.I like him but some play calls are questionable and he's just 2 conservative. We also need to put in more than 2 receivers in at a time.I still like him a lot from a defense aspect.I would.I see what your saying in why Jones did it.But he needs to know when to do it.Not 3 times though. Catch it and try something.Especially when your down a couple td s. I think we had this whooping coming like I said though. But the offense has way better talent than just yring to run the ball unless your down.Be more aggressive with the offense. I think we need more 3 wide receiver plays.

oh yeah, one more thing before I get back the late game tonight. what in the world has come over chris gamble? no holes on that side of the field. and to all you running backs, you might want to think twice bout turning that corner. this cb will bust your a--!!! He must have started hanging out with beason and harris and the boys. you know, the real carolina panthers. Have a good time in hawaii chris. Get laid one time for me.

Despite a dismal peformance by the team as a whole, there were a couple of highlights:
(1)The pass blocking by the offensive line (Jake had all day back there: it was almost like watching the patriots pass plays). (2)Jake showed tremendous confidence in his offensive line and did not get too flustered back there (if at all). (3)Despite being accused of letting the ball hang too long on the pass play to Smith, Smith had to actuallys stretch out forward to get his hands on the ball and lost his footing in the process (otherwise it would have been another overthrown bomb/pass by Jake, which would have been common this season). That pass showed improvement on the deep pass; which, if they can build on it, should lead to better things in the near future downfield.
(4)Despite a dispicable effort on offense (and all other phases), Moose had a great game that included hauling in the smoke and displaying ninja-like moves after the catch. He has been brilliant this season. He has caught deep passes, smoke screens, and his usual passes in traffic. He has blocked for fellow WR's as well as RB's. He has made big plays and kept (if not started) the momentun. He has been a leader on the field as well as in the locker room. He has probably set an example for other off of the field as well. I sure hope that injury is just some type of bruise or something. The Panthers can not afford to lose this guy again.
...Other than that, it was pretty obvious the Panthers lied down for the Bucs in this one. It was pretty embarassing. Now I know how the Chiefs felt last week. So much for that "killer instinct." After a loss like this, the up and coming weeks will be a true test to the type of character this team has.

And Josh, that is a brilliant name your parents bestowed upon you. What is your brother's name, Biff? Let me guess, your cousin's name is Chad, right??

I did forget about this one (in addition the only false start penalty by a lineman in this game);
"Three penalties were called on one play in the second quarter – and none of them counted. After Jake Delhomme threw an incomplete pass to tight end Dante Rosario, flags flew for 1) illegal contact on Tampa Bay’s Derrick Brooks, 2) taunting by Tampa Bay’s Jermaine Phillips and 3) holding on Panthers tackle Jordan Gross. The penalties offset."
---That holding penalty negated what would have been a huge gain from near the Panthers' own goal line. Is this guy (Gross) still holding out for for more money??
Like I said before, some NFL players are like personified embodyments of American corporations. Too much "Sorry, can't help you" followed by "Give me more... Gimme, gimme, gimme."
There should be more regulation in the NFL, just like there should be in the American free market overall. There should not only be an overall ceiling on money spent (salary cap) but they should cap money spent on draft picks and on allotments for skill postition. The better you are, the more you get; up to a certain maximum amount aloud. This would really cut down on alot of this nonsense.

Man, that one still hurts. This loss makes next week huge, if we lose next week this season might be headed down the drain. How can a team be so hot and cold? How do we hold LT, AP, Turner, Forte and LJ to under 100 yards and the let Dunn top 100 yards? What the hell did the Panthers do all week? Whatever they did, I hope they do the oppisite this week! We have to beat the Saints on Sunday!!!
Go Panthers!

The effort given by the entire Panther organization yesterday was beyond "pathetic". It was totally inexcusable. If starters don't feel the need to put out, yank them and let some of the reserves enter the fray. Sometimes you have to make the game ugly to make it pretty. For sure you don't lie over and take a shoving like the organization did yesterday. If making the post-season is the teams goal, then play with the passion that gets teams there. The real teams make an effort each Sunday.

Let's say this: At least the Panthers cut down on penalties. 4 penalties for 16 yards. Of course, I would attribute that to not playing loose and the 'don't screw up' nervous mentality it looked like the Panthers had all game.
A big problem in this game was our catching and....ahh I'm not even going to try defining why we lost this game. I can do it in one sentence: We sucked in all 3 phrases of the game.
The Panthers on the football field were not the Carolina Panthers I know and you know. That's it. Period. I mean Steve Smith and Moose actually dropped balls for crying out loud. They NEVER drop balls! And I'm not talking about way over your head balls that Jake Delhomme likes to throw and you can just barely get a fingertip on it. I'm talking about about right at you 'in your gut' balls that just popped in and out and fell to the ground.
We came out there today and laid the hugest egg I've ever seen. Jake Delhomme hit defenders right in the face with the ball for Gods sake.
I think the first thing John Fox should tell them this evening is that they need to have a short memory. They need to be able to forget this and move on. It's not one of those things that can be corrected in practice because everything just went wrong. You can't teach football all over again.
They just need to forget. And we need to forget.

Rev when a pass is behind, infront of, over the head, out of bounds, these are not in their face.
We will not be a consistent winner year after year with Jake Turnoverloom.
Let John Fox make all the excuses he wants. The contract will end soon with a couple more games like yesterday.
