Gross says he feels fine, but...
Offensive tackle Jordan Gross said today he feels fine, four days after suffering a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons. He said he had been hit in the head on the play before the concussion and was still dizzy from that blow.
Gross has been on the sidelines during practice the past few days and expects to do some jogging on Friday. He's listed as "day-to-day" for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
But don't expect him to play. He might not even be in the lineup next week against Tampa Bay.
More on this in tomorrow's Observer. -- David Scott

It's not worth it. He should take his time coming back. Being knocked cold for 4 minutes is no joke.

I competly agree. Even if it hurts us some we should all think about Gross first. He should play when he is ready.

Agree. And if the line can play like it did Sunday in his absence the Panthers will be 4-1 or 5-1 when he gets back.

I 100% agree with the above postings - We could beat KC without half of our offense. How on earth is "The young man from Coastal Carolina" or Huard gonna do anything against our D. I really wanna see LJ get shut down cuz it is going to happen.

We love you Jordan - please side with safety. We all know you are as tough as nails, just tell Jake to watch his blind side though

Jordan Gross is a beast. It is important to make sure that he is back to his beastly self when he fully recovers. I don't care if we're facing the Chiefs or the Patriots, Gross needs to think about his health first.
Get well soon man.

Does anyone know if being knocked unconscious always equals a concussion? I'm just sayin', because the sportswriters haven't gotten any sort of medical diagnosis from the team on this, and yet they are so certain it was a "grade 3 concussion". I'm fairly sure our local gaggle of writers heard that term for the first time a few weeks ago when State's QB got one, and have just been dying to use it again to show how smart they are.

Authority -
Having had a couple of diagnosed concussions myself, my understanding is yes, getting knocked unconscious is a direct result of receiving a concussion. The change in brain function caused by the impact is the root of the physical symptoms, be it getting knocked out, being dizzy, blurry vision, amnesia, vomiting, etc. While a concussion can occur without showing physical symptoms, you will not have the smptoms without having suffered a concussion.

I concur. Keep him out. Serves him right for holding out. Maybe he can go over that contract again with his two weeks off. Then again, what does he care. He's still getting paid ridiculous amounts of money this year (injured or not). And with all the media hype that heightens his stock around the league, I'm sure he'll go to another team if he doesn't get the money he wants (probably even if he doesn't get the money he was asking elsewhere just to save face). Hope I'm wrong, but time will tell.
Side note: I do admit he has looked pretty darn good on that left side so far. He's still an arse for holding out and acting the way he has about it this past offseason.

20 years ago, Gross would have played the second half. If he feels okay, let him play. His position doesn't get the full speed collisions of a linebacker. btw, Dan Morgan never had a grade 3.

..."holding out?" When was it that Gross missed any mandatory team events? Strikes me THAT'S the definition. And that "pretty darn well bit wasn't so nice against the Vikes. Gross is what he is: great on the run anywhere he's put, mediocre in pass pro, particularly when matched up against the top pass-rushers on the left side.

I think as a whole Gross did an excellent job on Jared Allen.

Keeping it Real,
WTF??? Gross hasn't ever held out of anything. The last player that held out on the Panthers was Jon Beason two years ago - and even that was a 'no contract' situation. Try not to be so judgemental when you don't even have your facts straight!

"Serves him right for holding out" Let me get this straight. You think that Gross deserves to get a concussion, because he didn't sign a long term contract this past off season. WTF! I hope you get a grade 3 concussion sometime soon. Then I can say "Serves him right for making all those dumb posts"

Guys, let me first say I hope he stays out until he is healthy, BUT you don't have firm rules for concussions like everyone keeps saying. I'm a certified athletic trainer and have been around concussions for a while at an SEC school and now at the high school level.
Someone may have a grade one concussion and stay out a month, but another may get a grade one can come back that game. There are guidelines, but those are trumped by other tests. It all depends on how fast they heal (people heal at different rates)
What I'm sure happened is they took a CAT scan of his brain to see if there was any bleeding. Also they would have done some neurological testing. If the test and the CAT scan says he's ok then he will be cleared to play. If not no matter how good he feels the Drs and the athletic trainers will hold him out.

gross is an above avg right tackle, nothing more ,nothing less.hes not worth the money hes going to want.i say keep gamble and lose pep and gross.youll be able to get some blue chip talent for the 26-30 million youre going to save.

I haven't heard if Gross has ever had any other "slight concussion" types of injuries before. Given that he's started every game since joining the Panthers, I'd assume not. But it might be nice if one of the writers could dig into his history a little bit. Is there any chance he could become more concussion-prone as a result of this situation? A 4-minute lights-out has got to be one of the more serious ones a guy could suffer.
I hope there's no lingering effects and he gets enough time to get back to a 100% before we need him again. We can probably afford not to have him in the Kansas City game. But we've got Tampa Bay coming up after that and I hope we're at full-strength for that one. New Orleans comes next, but it looks like Sedrick Ellis might be unable to play in that game. He's out 2-4 weeks with a minor procedure on his knee. So, hopefully the Panthers can continue to string together some wins over these next few games. There's two more divisional opponents before we get to the bye. It sure would be nice to be 3-0 against our division rivals at that point.
Just my two-cents,

LOL. You guys are a trip. You're right though, comments like the one I made are still horrible. By "holding out" I meant the ongoing contract negotiations that have been going on for a couple of years that have still not been resolved: hence the franchise tag designation.
Anyway, this guy has been a career drive killer (left or right side) with false start penalties; so I don't get all the hype. Sure he's incredibly athletic for his size and is versatile enough to do well on either side, but I still don't get all the publicity he gets.
Anyway, whether it's Stephen Davis (who is my favorite Panther all-time) or Kris Jenkins (who disgusts me), anyone who holds out or stall contract negotiations (Davis never did) should be shipped out.
This is a TEAM SPORT. No one player should be getting that much more than most on the roster. If you asked me, it's those contract extensions that ruined the D-line of 2003. They got complacent and walked around acting like royalty on the practice field. It was wretched. I'm glad almost all of them are gone. Just so happens that the last one, Poopers, is also "holding out."
