Robinson on IR; Jarrett could be active Sunday

The Panthers placed receiver/returner Ryne Robinson on injured reserve on Wednesday. Robinson, who injured his knee in training camp, hadn't played yet this season.

That move plus a knee problem that kept D.J. Hackett out of Wednesday's practice mean second-year receiver Dwayne Jarrett will likely be active for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Jarrett has been inactive for the past three games.

The Panthers signed former Butler High and Wake Forest standout Kenneth Moore to take Robinson's spot on the roster. Moore was taken in the fifth round of last spring's NFL draft by the Detroit LIons and had been on the team's practice squad.

Missing practice Wednesday were: T Jordan Gross (concussion), WR D.J. Hackett (knee), C Ryan Kalil (ankle), T Jeff Otah (ankle), S Quinton Teale (ankle), DT Darwin Walker (thigh).

Backup QB Matt Moore, who broke his leg in the final preseason game against Pittsburgh, returned to practice for the first time since then.

Why don't we look at Taye Biddle again? Someone reliable who knows the system well and showed promise.

Sucks for Robinson, but I do like Moore, he was always an impressive player at Wake.

Good to see Matt Moore back at it. Does anyone know much about Kenneth Moore? Does he stand to be productive? I second TrueFan, what about a Taye Biddle or a Dominique Thompson? Too bad Jason Carter's on the IR, this could have been a great opportunity for him.

Kenny Moore was the man at Wake Forest. He set the ACC record for receptions last year. Great pick up! Esp. since Jarret sucks so bad.

Taye Biddle is a good call. He should have made the team.

Posted by: Jake | Oct 8, 2008 3:10:46 PM

Hey yall, give me a chance, I set all kinds of receiving records at Wake as well as running the ball a lot and returning kicks and punts. So I am versatile to say the least. Basically, I am the next Reggie Bush, just without the big contract, hype and unfulfilled expectations.

Yes...Taye Biddle's great. That's why he's managed to play in TWO GAMES in a three-year career. He'll still be sitting around in free agency without a team if we get that desperate. Moore seems like the type who could get up on a 53-man roster and never come down. Always found a way to be productive at Wake no matter how he was used, although his weak preseason seems like a bit of a concern. Either way, it'll give us another option as a returner and wideout.

What is wrong with D.J. Hacket? No wonder the Skins only offered him the league minimum. He is like one big injury. I bet the guy can't walk around his living room without stubbing his toe on the couch.

Eric, I dont know the figures, but its not exactly we broke the bank to sign Hackett

Posted by: matt | Oct 8, 2008 3:37:55 PM

What's up with Hackett?
Is this guy built like a little girl?
Maybe he should try soccer. Guess it was a roll of the dice to bring him in. I'm glad Moose is playing so well.

Feel sorry for Robinson, lots of talk in the offseason about how hard he was working and was really looking forward to a breakout year. Sucks he couldn't make it back. Still don't know what was wrong; I thought he was practicing the last 3-4weeks on a part time basis. I wonder if he hurt his knee again?

Posted by: jbw | Oct 8, 2008 3:59:36 PM

procton is not a real carolina fan he just a fat slob that has no life so he talk about our team to try and bring us down and make us feel as bad as his life is what a loser get a life loser

I will admit I am not fully versed on Moore.
Although, I did watch a couple of Wakes games last year, and he seemed to be one of the more exciting players out there.

However, if he couln't make the Lions roster... Let's see if he makes any kind of impact. I am all for any player that can make the Panthers better. Which Hackett never seemed to be able to do.

It will be nice to have Jarrett back on the active roster. I am hopeful he can contribute, and be a productive member of this team. We really need that 3rd WR to have an impact.

Just my thoughts, GO CATS! Beat Tampa!!

I dont mean to be negative but, Panthersn lose to Bucs sunday

IM GUESSING, IF NOT ITS A MIRACLE

Taye Biddle is on the Giants

Message boards are a great way for fans to vent and praise thier teams. Unfortunately the closest many of these folks came to a pigskin is a bag of pork rinds. Julius Peppers is one on the five best defensive ends in the league. I watch him closely each game. He is very active and causes quite a bit of disruption.

Paul, you are retarded! First of all, learn how to spell. Second, learn correct grammar before you make idiotic remarks. Thank you. If you're guessing that the Panthers will lose to the Bucs on Sunday, then how do you know it's gonna be a miracle that we win? You're post makes no sense. Anyways, if you've been watching any NFL games this year you will know that our defense is on a roll this year, and we will stop Tampa Bay. It's gonna be a defensive game, like it is every year, but our offense has a slight edge. Plus, Kenny Moore is an outstanding WR, I saw him play at both Butler, and Wake.

Jarrett had a strong preseason. He proved he now knows the plays...he deserves a solid shot....why some continue to dislike him doesnt make sense....weve never had a rookie receiver come in a be amazing...weve always developed them over a couple years through their highs and lows.....if any of you really think Jarrett is bad or disagree with how we have developed our receivers in the past you know nothing about football and have not been a panther fan for too long

Richard Williamson knows what to do with his WRs and who to keep. Taye just isn't special enough to be on our WR corps, but he has 3rd receiver potential in my book on most teams. If he had better agility to go along with that end speed, he would be a Panther now.

I swear when I saw Mark Jones catch his first career pass on Sat. I figured this outcome was possible. Jones is not the kinda vet you kick to the curb when Robinson was iffy. That they worked Jones into the WR rotation told me they were at least thinking about making a move with RR.

When Hackett came up gimpy they couldn't have another question mark at WR. Better to go with Jarrett and Jones, with Moore the disaster WR.

I feel sorry for Ryne Robinson. The Panthers waited a long time before moving him to IR. But they still haven't disclosed the nature of his injury beyond the cryptic and vague "knee injury." That doesn't reveal anything at all and I, for one, don't understand the reason for being so evasive about it. Is it one of those "micro fracture" situations?

And what happened to Hackett on the opening kickoff that rendered him unavailable for the rest of the game? His reputation for being fragile seems to be valid now: One and done seems to be his game. I hope I'm wrong because I want the Panthers to win and I want their players to succeed individually as well.

Regarding the animosity towards Dwayne Jarrett: Is it because he is from the wrong USC? Southern Cal instead of South Carolina? I don't know what else to make of the hostility. The guy was a 2nd round pick. Don't we usually root for high draft picks to succeed and help the team? I don't understand this at all.

Posted by: FrankieB2 | Oct 8, 2008 5:42:14 PM

Not when they are a 2nd round pick a year ago and still not good enough to make the active gameday roster. Also when they seem to have off field issues as well. This is the Panthers... not the Cowboys or Bengals. That's one of the things that make the Panthers such a great team to root for. They one of the classier organizations in the league... not a harbor for criminals and delinquents...

With the injury to Hackett, Jarrett jumps 2 spots to #3 on the depth chart. With Jones 4th and Moore 5th. The only reason Jones caught his first pass was because Jarret was inactive. Now that Hackett is hurt, Jarrett will be active, and it is up to him to stay on the active roster. Moore won't see the field until he has earned a spot by learning the plays and proving he belongs on the roster.

Terrible news for RYNE, good news for Jarrett. Jarrett now must prove he can play, he must cash in on the opportunity he was just given. I personally believe he will do just fine. He has the skills, now he gets a chance to prove it.

Chris, you are close, but no cigar for you. Colbert had a terrific rookie year. 47, I think, receptions is pretty good for a rookie. Too bad he was a 1 and done kind of player. However, you are correct that very few rookies make an impact at the WR position. Next to QB, it is the most difficult position to learn. It is not just the plays they need to learn, but, also how to read defenses as they run their routes. Running a route is easy, getting open while you run your route takes experience.

bigkountry12, Jarrett made 1 mistake, and he is only 21. If you think that constitutes off-field problems, you have a jaded view of the world. The Panthers are a classy Org., that is why they gave Jarrett a second chance. Take a chill pill, and let the kid mature before you write him off.

Just my thoughts. GO CATS!

For those interested in Taye Biddle, I believe he's available. The New York Giants waived him when Plaxico Burress returned.

As for Ryne Robinson. Bummer. At least Mark Jones is doing okay for us. But a part of me wonders how much Robinson's injury really warrants going on IR. Isn't this just more of a convenience? We get to keep Jones...pull in another WR like Kenneth Moore...AND keep the rights to Ryne Robinson while he rehabs for the rest of the year? Seems like the Panthers get to hedge their bets and sort through all of those guys to decide who they want for the long-term.

And speaking of long-term opportunities, it would certainly make for a great story if hometown Kenneth Moore can stick with the Panthers. The guy's certainly going to have more passion and determination to give 110% for the team he grew up watching. He's also officially on a 53-man roster and not just a practice squad player now. It'll be interesting to see what kind of opportunities (if any) he gets while he's here...

So, best wishes, Kenneth! And the same for Ryne Robinson and Mark Jones as well. In the end, any help they can provide the team is appreciated by the fans.

My two-cents,
--Neil
