Former Panther Haynes Joins Broncos
The injury-depleted Denver Broncos have signed former Panthers backup running back Alex Haynes.
Haynes joins a depth chart that has lost three running backs to the injured reserve list in the past two weeks -- Michael Pittman, Andre hall and Ryan Torain.
Haynes played sparingly for the Panthers in 2007 (3 yards rushing on three carries, three pass receptions for 14 yards) after beating out former second-round draft pick Eric Shelton. He was on Carolina's practice squad in '06.

Good for him. I always felt like he was a guy who couldn't quite catch a break in making the team, especially the year we cut him instead of Eric Shelton.

Speaking of backup running backs... what do think the chances that DeCori Birmingham or a late round draft pick takes Nick Going's place on the team next year. They would have to contribute on special teams, but Nick has not had a stellar season outside of special teams.

With Cory Boyd staying down on the practice squad and Andre Hall out for a bit with a lingering lower body injury, it'll be interesting to see if Haynes does anything with the carries he's sure to get. Peyton Hillis is pretty much the only other otpion as a running back.
Clay, the problem with "replacing" Goings is that he does SO MANY things. He's an RB/FB/KR/special teams blocker/kick coverage guy. Can each of those roles be filled by somebody else? Sure, but when you're limited to 45 guys on Sundays, having ONE guy who can do all of those things is exceptionally valuable. Further, when you can get that player at $745K, it's tough to replace. I was all for finding a true FB replacement in this year's draft, when there were several quality mid to late round prospects. The same option, though, isn't really available next year. It's hard to say that Goings "has not had a stellar season" on offense given that he's only seen two carries in games that weren't already decided.

Funny seeing Eric Shelton on here. What happened to him, is he still even in the league? Im going with no.

Proctologist, I hear Delhomme and Goings are looking for a new President for their fan club, you want the position?

It's a shame Haynes couldn't at least stay on the practice squad. He did look like he had much potential. Looks like things may work out for him anyway and, as far as the Panthers are concerned, Birmingham is not such a bad backup either.

Tyler... To attempt to answer you question about Shelton, I think that he had been on the Redskins roster and waived. Don't know if it was this year or last though.

Who am I?
Actually Procton - Andre Hall "out for a bit?" If you consider IR "a bit" then sure. But ramble your garbage on and on, speak about the salary cap for a bit, blah, blah, blah, talk about how big Going's unit is, and mainly just your man crush for Delhomme and Fox that can't do anything wrong. Get a life - you are ridiculous. Who cares?

Shelton had tried to convert to FB for the Redskins, but suffered a neck injury during camp and got released before he even got to the preseason.

Thank you jb, I am glad I am not the only one who realizes the Proctologist would gladly carry Jake's jock strap around as a good luck charm. I had a busy weekend, so last night I was skimming through the posts from the last few days, and reading MP's posts defending Jake's performance reminded me of something, so I got to thinking and I realized what it was. Did you ever see that YouTube clip of the obsessed Britney Spears fan who made this long tear-filled monologue about why everyone should leave Britney alone because she was just misunderstood? Procton all the way. When Julius Peppers or DeAngelo Williams don't have a good day, they are worthless and need to be benched. When Jake has THE WORST PERFORMANCE EVER BY AN NFL QB, it was because of one tipped pass and one dropped pass. Oh, and after MP's year long tirade against Peppers and Williams, you would hope he would be big enough to at least acknowledge that when Delhomme decided to take Sunday off, Peppers and Williams decided to put the team on their backs and carry us to a win.

Steve - that is absolutely hilarious. I can see Procton professing his love for Delhomme as the same way as that video. He's real quiet when Peppers and Williams carry the team to victory, the first to complain that they "aren't very good" or lord if he brings up cap numbers one more time I'm going to puke. He's not a real Panthers fan....you have to learn to just ignore him. It's just really hard when he is so freaking dumb.

Steve: If it was not against the rules to write under a fake name I would answer like this:
THE WORST PERFORMANCE EVER BY AN NFL QB! Are you trying to take away the only thing I have left! For me what you saw on Sunday would have been one of my better games!
Regards
Ryan Leaf
;-)
P.S. I am not trying to defend Jake, he was terrible. Let just hope he bounces back on Sunday (or actually we should beat the Lions anyway so the Sunday after that would be enough :-) D.S.

Did anyone else hear John Fox's radio show last night on WBT when Chris Harris disguised his voice and called in messing with Fox?
Posted by: m | Nov 11, 2008 11:14:41 AM
In other news, the Seattle Seahawks have released Keary Colbert. Wow...he couldn't even hack it in Seattle when they had no WR's. So sad...haha
Posted by: JM | Nov 11, 2008 6:10:57 PM
Actually JM, Colbert is a really good receiver. Look what he did in 04, enough said. I live in the past, why don't you? Just don't let the facts get in the way of your arguement. Ok?

Was that really Chris Harris?? I thought they were joking about that.
Look, Jake stunk up the place Saturday. To deny that is absurd. But I don't expect it to carry over. If you ask me, he was just coming out way too overconfident after the bye week (with the Panthers in good standing) against a team with a bad rep. I do think Sunday was yet another humbling experience for him and he will probably respond well next week. There is a chance that he may get too cautious and not throw the ball, but I don't think he would do that against the Lions. In short, after the next couple of weeks, his performance against the Raiders will be a thing of the past.
I still don't see why anybody would argue against trying to make the QB position (or any position) better next year?? Those of you who get offended by that notion want to further explain your rationale?

*Sunday--- correction is for the J*rk *ffs who post here regularly.

what did chris harris say?
Posted by: robbyc | Nov 11, 2008 11:27:48 PM
He called in as "mike from Monroe" and he was telling Fox how good a player and person Chris Harris was, that type of thing. Fox had no idea.

I don't care what anyone says here, Jake Delhomme is an awesome QB. Should he have been replaced in the 2nd Quarter? Hell yeah. But he has led us to a Superbowl and a 7-2 record so far this year. To throw him under the bus now would be stupid.
And just for the record, it was not the absolute worst performance ever. In 1975, Cincinnati's Ken Anderson went 4-for-19 with four interceptions in a 14-10 victory over the Raiders.
Jake Delhomme will bounce back. We'll have a good game next week.

Quick Question, why was Dwayne Jarrett deactivated the last game? Does John Fox care that much about being a special teams contributor to not play him for hackett?
FIREFOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: FIREFOX | Nov 12, 2008 9:05:44 AM
No, he cares about the fact that Hackett is a better player. Hackett has yet to have a drop this season and is a better route-runner as well in addition to his more reliable hands.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Nov 12, 2008 10:27:48 AM
Because Hackett wasn't injured. Fox always says his players dont lose a job due to an injury, only if they are being outplayed, and at this point, there is nothing to indicate that Jarrett has outplayed D.J.
Posted by: matt | Nov 12, 2008 10:45:53 AM
Great Answer, I wonder what Jarrett's future is especially with robinson coming back next year. I am not fully convinced on Mark Jones. I know he had some great returns recently, but the punter should not tackle you. That's embarrasing.
FIREFOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In other former Panthers news, "hometown stud" Terrence Holt was just released by the Bears after being unable to even earn a jersey in two weeks with the team, and Ricardo Colclough played primarily on special teams for the Chiefs in his first game there.
