« Peppers NFC defensive player of the week | Main | Where does Fox rank among coaches in '08? »

Notes from Wednesday
-- Quarterback Jake Delhomme mostly blamed his arm – not his head – for his four-interception game Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.
“One decision I wish I had back,” Delhomme said Wednesday. “The rest, I didn’t make good throws.”
Delhomme said he saw Raiders safety Rashad Baker closing in on receiver Steve Smith on the second of the four interceptions.
“We had a ‘stutter-go’ on and the safety was so deep,” Delhomme said. “After the fake, he really shot over to Steve and I should have thrown it more to the side.”
The other three, Delhomme said, were bad throws. He said he heard about them on the Panthers’ happy plane ride back to Charlotte later Sunday.
“We got a lot of jokes out of the way,” he said. “Especially after a win.”
Delhomme had one of his own, after hearing that teammate Julius Peppers was been named the NFC’s defensive player of the week Wednesday.
“I should have won the AFC’s defensive player of the week,” he said.
-- The Panthers’ Sunday opponents – the winless Detroit Lions – are having problems keeping their quarterbacks healthy and recently signed veteran Daunte Culpepper out of retirement.
The Panthers had similar problems last season, when Delhomme went down with an injured elbow and the ancient Vinny Testaverde was brought in.
So the Lions receivers shouldn’t look for any sympathy from Smith.
“Better them than me,” he said.
-- Center Ryan Kalil was the only player to miss practice Wednesday, although defensive tackle Darwin Walker (neck) practiced on a limited basis. Kalil continues to nurse a sprained ankle he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 5. Kalil missed the next three games and tried to play against the Raiders. He left the game after deciding the ankle hadn’t healed sufficiently. -- David Scott

I think Jake will have a great week this week. Most QB's have a week they want to forget and he sure had his. Wish I could watch the games. I spend my Sundays watching the game in progress stats go by on nfl.com while wonderig what happened to the Cowboys. lol

That was the worst QB performance I have ever seen by someone I root for. I've seen some bad games before, but never by my team's QB. I hope it is just an aberration and not indicative of problems to come. Jake should be able to pick the Lions apart and the Panthers should be able to run right through them and pick up big yardage. I can't wait to see what Steve Smith and Jake can do against the Lions this week. I hope they have a big game.
Go Cats!

"Quarterback Jake Delhomme mostly blamed his arm – not his head – for his four-interception game Sunday against the Oakland Raiders."
I think that's an accurate assessment for the most part, because he had some guys open but just kept making poor throws.

The lions can be a sleeping rattlesnake. The PANTHERS should not be looking past them.

Part of Offense's problem is formations, they reverted back to straight pro set like versus Tampa, and nothing. I worte then we needed to go 3 wides 2 rb; and 1 TE and 3 wides 1 RB sets. Not saying they read this blog, but the next two games that is exactly what we did and our offense had creativity and life. Then versus Oakland we had boring pack it in and slam into the line, just stupid game plan and play calling, really.
I have written for four years Jake does NOT properly follow through, does not pronate his right wrist turning palm down and thumb to ground, which keeps tip of ball under control, otherwise tip is up and ball sails - it is his consistent problem and why 4 years with a QB caoch can't correct that is beyond me, maybe we need a new QB coach too?
Anyway, get back to modern sets, play Jarret over Hackett, go 3 wides and 2rb's and 1 te packages, use the direct snap, (Oh and I agree with Fox, that was our worst run defense of the year, lazy)
Ok, let's get kinks out versus Detroit and get ready for a good stretch run!

Interesting though Isiah, I agree though. The play calling does perplex me at times because whenever we have momentum into a game, we tend to revert back to "John Fox" football. We need to stick with what won the previous games for us.
FIREFOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isaiah, again, with his coaching expertise...one wonders why his team allows him to share such privileged information with the world. Oh, wait...he doesn't have a real coaching job.

Isaiah: I guarantee you the every track coach Michael Johnson had between he was 10 and 20 tried to "improve" him by changing his technic. He can be lucky he didn't listen.
How many hours have you spent watching game tape of the Lions by the way. As you seems to know exactly what will work against them.

you are correct mr isaiah. and you mr procton are a sarcastic ,ignoramus.
ive been saying for years that you have to pass to set up the run when they put 9 in the box like teams are doing to us. we are not going to go far in the playoffs if we continue like this. we cant even run a simple screen pass.luckily our def is saving us.i swear our off is so predictable that it seems that teams know exactly what the play will be.

Thorrez,
Hahah, everything works against the Lions. They have given up more than 30 points in every game but 1 this year I believe. That team is simply awful, we should win by at least 20.

I understand this was the worst game of his career so far, but to be honest, i'm glad it was in game that we won. Better for him to get it out of the way now, than during a divison matchup or (crosses fingers) during the playoffs.

Ray, we'll do quite well in the playoffs if we "continue like this." You may not have noticed, but we're 7-2. There are a grand total of TWO teams with better records than that in the NFL. Further, this coach and QB have NEVER fallen short of the NFC Championship when they've made the playoffs. What makes it different now, with our defense playing as well as it ever has under Fox and our point differential ranking right up there as well?
Posted by: Michael Procton | Nov 13, 2008 5:51:38 PM
Hey Thorrez, our pro set doesn't work against anyone, when we go true pro set and tight splits, we have not been very successful in any game, so I don't ahve to see film of Lions to say it is NOT a good formation for us. I have seen lions play, and they play a decent amount of cover two, using proset , cover 2 brings 9 people close to LOS, so yea, pro set with our guys is not the best. We clearly have been most successful with spread sets which helps creates throwing and running lanes.
oh, and michael johnson the sprinter? what does that have to do with throwing a football, your analogy makes no sense, and it is pretty easy to caoch technigue on certain things, it's not changing someone's entire throwing motion to have them end with a simple technigue, every position is taught and learns techniques, why do you think the NE Patriots are so good every year with nobodies and with second third fourth and even fifth string players at some positions, their coaches coach techniques as well as schemes.
Procton, you have no idea whether I have a coaching job or not, maybe I choose to coach high school or am a retired coach, as usual you speak out of ignorance. Is there something wrong with what I said, if so debate it -- weak and ignorant people who can't string together an intelligent postulate attack the person and not the statement, argument or debate.

i dont care if we go 14-2 procton, if our offense plays like last week in the playoffs we will lose.also, the last time the panthers were in the plaoffs jake had a horrible game vs seattle.he is not immune to stinking up the place just during the reg season.i also agree that fox and staff dont seem to be able to teach. for example they couldnt teach foster how to secure a football.look at all the players that didnt improve under fox, wharton, colbert, shelton, last years center, that 83 w r.jarret, now the tight ends seem to be regressing.

What if the Lions view film on Da Homie (Delhomme) and come in thinking easy pickings?

Film of this past week that is... My bad.
Posted by: ANILORAC OG | Nov 13, 2008 9:22:31 PM
Really...so you're going to Jake in Seattle? Jamal Robertson was our freaking running back! We were lucky to get that far.
