Postgame Q&A

The Panthers get out of Oakland with a pretty ugly 17-6 victory. Post your comments and questions here as comments and Charles and David will get to them in a little while.

Wouldn't you say that, barring injury, Deangelo is pretty much the next 1,000 yard back? With less than 400 yds to go, he might even surpass 1,444. But what is the deal with Stewart? He just isn't running through people lately.

i just got to say jake did not look to good today i know he had 4 ints but 10 of his passes were really high and he could have had more but were got the win and i guess that what we r looking for and i like to thank deangelo cause he carried us today and please marty sign peppers for it is to late

If this is what we look like against a team that's 2/6, what on earth are we going to do against Tamps and/or Giants? We're sunk unless we can come up with better playing than today! So much for the play-offs! Not a chance the way we played today!

That last Sack & forced fumble should belong to Tyler Brayton. Short of that, I regretably have to agree. Peppers did have a monster game today. Credit the coaching staff for moving him around like they did (which includes dropping him off into coverage and shutting down what would have been a 3rd down conversion otherwise). I still wouldn't offer him a ridiculous contract though because of his inconsistency. Top 5 would be fair (but still ridiculous because of what's going on in the NFL in general). Kudos to Singletary for doing what I want to do to some of these players as a fan (moon them)!

Overall, DeAngelo deserves the gameball today. If it weren't for his monster run with three minutes left in the first half, the Panthers more than likely would have lost today (on top of their offense being embarrassed). Williams followed that up with punishing runs in the second half, to keep the offense going and balance out the time of possession between the two teems.

I think it's a good sign when your quarterback is by far the worse player on the field (he was today) and you still dominate a game. Defense, running, and no passing game to speak of. Delhomme will be back next week.

The offense is way too inconsistent. They are having a hard time finding their identity. They need to focus on getting the ball in Steve and DeAngelo's hands, no matter what. If we are going to beat a team like NY or Tampa down the road, we have to be more explosive and deceptive on offense.

Was i the only one who thought Jeff Davidson, aka Offensive Coordinator, looked lost when they showed him on TV?

He truly can be offensive, but not very coordinated. They need a better plan.

He can be a sluggo.

My two question for the week...

After today's lack of offense, do you believe Jarrett will be activated next week instead of someone like Barnidge?

Second: Did Delhomme injure himself after that first TD pass, because he overthrew both long and short passes.

Would some reporter stand up and ask John Fox "Aside from injury, how bad would Jake have to play to be benched?"
We now know that he can have 4 ints, and not complete a pass in the second half and STILL take the field. Go Figure.

That was really ugly. If you have to have a game like that, it's good to have it against a team like Oakland. Game balls to the defense and to Deangelo.

jon, send me your shipping address and I'll send you a keyboard with all the keys.

Man, what the hell did we do to brian billick? This one way bastard hates us.

Kudos to Julius Peppers. What a pro he is!! He and the rest of the defense is why the Panthers won.

I have thought for some time that the Panthers need to evolve into a 2-quarterback team and shuffle them throughout the game. That way, the team constantly has a warmed up and capable quarterback. Jake is near the end of his career and the team cannot put itself in a position where they lose because of him.

I love having Jake but I second this comment. You could tell very early that this was not going to be Jake's day. And we've seen these days before.

In a perfect Raider world there would have been six picks, not four.

How does Peppers show up for a game, dominate, then disappear like a ghost in the next one? Is this an indication of drug or alcohol abuse? Kind of reminds me of the old Kerry Collins games.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. After Delhomme got that 4th interception, I was hoping that Fox would put in someone else, but it obviously didnt happen. But hey, we still won.

I think everyone has bad days. I really hope this is just rust from the bye week. Next week should be better. Good job defense! Keep up the good work.

Could this be the first time in NFL history that a quarterback's passer rating was less than his team's score?

Posted by: Lamont | Nov 9, 2008 10:32:28 PM

We are still 7-2, stop all of the whining you band wagon fans. More than likely we will be 8-2 after the lions come to town. We are one game ahead of the falcons in the NFC South. The raiders are not a terrible team, they have been ahead in several games until the fourth quarter. Every team has their off days, and we still found a way to win.

Posted by: Mark | Nov 9, 2008 10:34:29 PM

yep jake the fake got away with another one--too bad we cant get a decent qb

Posted by: john | Nov 9, 2008 10:51:30 PM

It IS too bad, john. A "decent QB" surely would have won us a Super Bowl with Jamal Robertson in the backfield, not just taken us to the NFC Championship. A "decent QB" would be 8-0 in the playoffs for his career, not just a 5-2 mark that ranks among the best in NFL history.

Hey folks, please reread your posts before sending it in. Many of you have poor grammar/spelling skills and it really shows. I'm serious, because I'm tired of reading your stupid redneck garbage. Do you understand me you dumb hicks!?! Freaking morons.

Jake has sucked for years now as has the play calling for the panthers. If this doesn't change Fox has got to go. Fox needs to learn that sometimes you need to pass to run and that will never happen with Delhomme and the bad play calling.

Posted by: Bryan F | Nov 9, 2008 11:21:44 PM

I don't think the Panthers can get by the
1st round of the playoff the way they played
today. Jake has to improve bigtime!!!!

Posted by: mario | Nov 10, 2008 12:00:30 AM

The Panthers are really no different than any other year. They are just getting a few extra breaks. In years past they always had a decent offense and defense but seemed to always win or lose by 4 or less points. They never seemed explosive like a Giants or Eagles team. They played not to lose rather than playing to win. This is what drives me crazy about Fox. He is so conservative. If Shanahan had Steve Smith then Smith would have 1800 receiving yards each year. Fox is a run first, run second, and then maybe pass kind of guy. I think the Panthers can make it to the Super Bowl if they are lucky but they are not better than Philly or New York right now.
