Practice report: Kalil practices, Davis doesn't

Linebacker Thomas Davis and offensive tackle Jeremy Bridges were held out of practice Wednesday, but center Ryan Kalil returned to practice on a limited basis and defensive tackle Darwin Walker returned to full participation.

Walker has been sidelined recently with neck pains related to a recent auto accident. Kalil has missed four of the past five games with a sprained ankle, and didn't practice at all last week.

Davis is nursing a sore ankle, but appears likely to play Sunday at Atlanta. Bridges was held out for precautionary reasons related to the irregular heartbeat he had Sunday.

Bridges said the condition has been corrected and the he expects to play against the Falcons.

Did anyone see "Dr. Z's Power Rankings" on CNNSI.com???

"Carolina Panthers (8-2)
OK, they've proved themselves, and I really wish I could get up for that division crucial at Atlanta, but there's something holding me back. Just a feeling, I guess, that this is for the B Division championship."

The B Division championship? What kind of crap is that? That shows you the kind of respect the NFC South gets from the rest of the country.

Why even mess with the continuity of the O-line by putting Kalil back in there? At this point, the line is more used to Hangartner. Kalil has better quickness to get to the second level but the Hangman is more experienced and makes fewer mistakes.

I really hope the Panthers beat the Falcons this Sunday. I am tired of hearing about how Atlanta could surprise a team in the playoffs. The Falcons are clearly the third best team in the division.

Even worse is SI's prediction that the Panthers will not make the playoffs, that the Saints will win the division and that BOTH wildcard teams will come from their darling NFC East.

The Panthers need to dominate this weekend and shut some of these idiots up.

Aluding to TrueFan's remark, Peter King of SI said of the Panthers, "they are a very suspect 8-2" or something to that affect.

My husband's Sports Ilis-piece-of-crap-strated renewal notice came today. Nice timing. Guess where I pitched it?

Isn't there some way that we can get these Sporto writer lame comments into the Panthers locker room to give them "tackeling fuel"?

I'm as big a Panther fan as anybody but any objective person is going to look at the last two games and wonder about this team. They are going to have to have their A-game this weekend because the Falcons are at home and Abraham is going to be baring down on Jake every pass play. If Jake drops back and thinks he is going to have all day to throw, it's going to be a long day. I hope like heck that Trgo and Davidson have a game plan that is going to beat these guys.

What these last two weeks say about this TEAM is that they will find a way to win in the face of adversity. It's the great teams in NFL history that do that (despite who their opponent is). Yeah, Jake could have done better; etc., etc., but this team has won even the "trap games" this year. They even went as far as decimating the Cheifs. That speaks volumes of the character this year's team has. I'm pretty confident that the Panthers will dominate the rest of the way; espcecially with rookie of the week and player of the week nominess Stewart and Williams leading the way.

Slash and Bash is how they carry it.... alway to the Lombardi Trophy!

Let's not worry about what the so called sports experts think of us. It will take many more years with a lot of empressive wins for us to be thought of as a high profile team. We need some back to back winning seasons too.
As long as we're all happy with our team who cares what the rest think.

It's such a beautiful thing to see the people on this blog defending and not bashing their favorite team. As for the falcons, I believe, they were one of the Panthers better offensive and defensive performances. It won't be as easy, but, the Falcons aren't the only team that has been trying to get better since the last time they met. Whose to say that Carolina doesn't win this one, I don't know, say 44-11. Anything is possible, right?

Is it, smash and bash, or smash and dash???Now i'm all confused, I hate this feeling!!!

I'm going to stick up for the Atlanta Falcons here. I believe that they're a good team that deserves a wildcard birth, but they aren't going to get it because of the strength of their schedule and the inexperience of Matt Ryan in the passing game.

That being said, the Panthers and Bucs are both CLEARLY going to be in the playoffs. I don't listen to SI. Any true sports fan does not even listen to Peter King anymore.

Just yesterday he wrote an article where he actually considered the possibility of the New England Patriots trading Tom Brady for draft picks. How laughable is that? Trade the Quarterback on your team that lead you to 3 Superbowls and a 18-fail record for unproven rookies whom might or might not improve your team.

How does this guy keep his job?

SI has the panthers missing the playoffs but the aints making it

Can we trade Fumblelomme for Brady?

What about Peppers and Fumblelomme to NE for Brady.

Two bobcats were cut today. They are reporting to BOA Stadium tomorrow to run pass routes. We need 7 footers who can jump high enough for Jake's passes.

We also need some midgets to catch all of Jake's passes that are in the dirt.

Oh crap here come Procton with our daily dose of information. He is following me.

There is no strength of schedule adjustment when selecting playoff teams. It goes by league standings (division winners then two best overall records), then head to head records in case of a tie breaker.

Atlanta is a dangerous team but I think that our coaching staff should be able to create a dominate game plan against them again. After all, they are striving to be a mirror image of what has brought the Panthers success: Run the ball well, win field position, have great kicking game and win the close ones. Our big advantage against the Falcons is our receivers vs. their secondary. They have no one to equal Steve Smith and he is due for a huge game. We also have the advantage with our secondary vs, their receivers.

Last point, don't complain about the Panthers being slighted by the national media. Everytime they get picked by SI to win the super bowl they end up missing the playoffs.

slash, dash or bash, smash.... as long as you put the "speedster" first in the colundrum/nickname. Just my opinion, but I think he as earned it. Besides, it is yet another underrated but brilliant apporach by Fox & company.

It's a little like the Dolphins getting all of the credit for the Wildcat. No doubt the Panthers will be called copycats for naming their dynamic duo like that (even though it was the dynamic duo's idea). I like any combination because it has a ring to it, but Williams should get the credit for wearing down the defensenses with his elusiveness, speed and power (let's not overlook the monster blockers, from OL to WR, that pounding on opponents). Just like Jonathan himself said, he then gets to come up and knock down a wore out defense. Calli it what you want, slash & bash or dash & smash, just as long as you give credit where credit is due. The whole thing is simply brilliant!!

The key to beating the Falcons is to shut down their run game and make Matt Ryan beat you. He's had a good year so far, but he's mostly only been passing when they want to and not when they have to.

On another note, will some of the Fox/Hurney bashers come on here and admit they were wrong? Probably not. On offense, 7 are Hurney/Fox picks (all but Delhomme, Muhammad,Hoover, and Vincent) and 2 1/2 are good FA pickups (Moose is the 1/2 since he was a Polian pick and then a FA this year). Good backup draft picks are Hangartner, Stewart. On defense, 5 are draft picks (Peppers, Beason, Davis, Godfrey, and Gamble). Good FA pick-ups are Kemo, Lewis, Brayton, Diggs, Lucas, Harris, and Harris. And don't forget we got a #19 pick a year early in Otah, for what looks like a #30 pick next year. Given how tough it is to succeed as a player in the NFL, that's a pretty good success rate. Have there been some busts? Of course. But overall, we've got a GM/Coach team that many in the NFL would die for.

Oops. Only 1 Harris. My bad.

How can anyone, let alone a major publication like SI, believe the Aints are going to make the playoffs? Have they not seen them play this season? Forget their overhyped offense, they have so many weaknesses its ridiculous. They are NOT a playoff team.

Posted by: DB | Nov 20, 2008 9:22:59 AM

I just read the SI article. Not only did they disrespect the panthers, but our whole division. As much as I don't like the other teams in our division, I can't wait til all of play this weekend. I am watching every game. My only concern in GB is the weather. Running the ball and our ablility to rush the passer will be the deciding factor in that game.

I know our players read this sh*t too, and they can use this as motivation.

Go Panthers!

SI has us losing 4 of the remaining 6 games and not making the playoffs. Winning at home to TB & Denver, but Losing away to ATL, NY Giants, GB, and NO. We proved ourselve 5 years ago, and we will do it again. This is a very important game this weekend in ATL. If we win, I wonder how they would adapt their system to have us not make the playoffs then.
