Stewart misses 2nd straight practice ...

Just as the Carolina Panthers are getting their starting offensive line back together, an injury to rookie running back Jonathan Stewart could prevent their rushing attack from being at full strength for Sunday’s game in Oakland.

Stewart, a first-round draft pick and the team’s second-leading rusher, did not practice for the second consecutive day Thursday because of soreness in his heel.

Neither Stewart nor coach John Fox would speculate about whether the running back will be ready to face the Raiders. Oakland has struggled to stop the run all season, ranking 30th of 32 teams in run defense.

Said Stewart: “I’m just trying to get as well as I can. … That’s all I’m concerned about right now.”
Right tackle Jeff Otah and center Ryan Kalil are expected to be back in the lineup after missing four and three games, respectively, with sprained ankles.

Stewart said he didn’t know how his heel was injured, but that it hurt him during the Panthers’ Oct.26 game against Arizona, a 27-23 win.

Despite having a bye week to rest since playing the Cardinals, the soreness has continued.
“It’s a sharp pain in my heel,” said Stewart, who was held to 10 yards on eight carries against Arizona, his least productive day as a pro.

“When I run the ball, it hurts every time I press off on it.”
Stewart leads the Panthers with five rushing touchdowns and has 96 carries for 362 yards, which ranks 27th in the NFL and fourth among rookies.

Stewart has split carries all season with starter DeAngelo Williams, who leads Carolina and ranks 16th in the league with 522 yards on 120 attempts. He has five touchdowns, three on runs and two on receptions.

Walker recovering from scary wreck

Defensive tackle Darwin Walker is still experiencing neck spasms from an Oct.25 auto accident and hasn’t practiced this week.

Walker said his Mercedes was totaled after a collision with another vehicle at the corner of Morehead and Tryon streets, about three blocks from Bank of America Stadium.

Walker said he was heading west on Morehead and didn’t see an oncoming vehicle whose driver ran a red light at the intersection.

“If you come down Morehead, there’s a building there, so you can’t see what’s coming down Tryon,” he said. “I was just driving along and all of a sudden – ‘boom!’ There was no reaction, no brakes, none of that, just a collision.

“It was a very hard lick … an amazing impact.”

Walker said his car struck the passenger side of the other vehicle, but that he has been told the woman who was driving it will recover. He said the damage to the front end of his vehicle extended almost all the way to the front seats.

Walker, who missed the Oct..26 game against Arizona, wouldn’t speculate on when he’d be ready to play again, noting Fox’s insistence on not giving out details about injuries.

“Partly cloudy and fair,” he said of how he felt.

Kalil working to get in game condition

Kalil said he felt rusty returning to practice Wednesday after missing three games, but that he felt “100 times better” Thursday. He said his biggest concern is getting into game condition after a lengthy layoff.

Kalil also asked if he could clarify his comment last week that he didn’t want to jinx the 6-2 Panthers by his return. He said his father, Frank, asked about it after reading it recently.

“I said, ‘Pops, it was a joke,’” said Kalil. “He said, ‘Well, it didn’t read like a joke.’
“So, on the record, for Frank Kalil, I was joking. I’m not superstitious and I’m excited to come back. So relax out there on the West Coast and have an In-N-Out burger for me.”

Kalil’s family lives in Corona, Calif., and is planning to attend the game in Oakland.

As far as Stewart's numbers go, that is remarkable considering he is splitting duties and is second in line on the depth chart. I just hope this injury to Stewart, the offensive line getting sorta reshuffled again (with the starters coming back after so many weeks) and the week off doesn't affect the rushing attack this week. Williams had an outstanding game (plowing through would-be tacklers) two weeks ago, and defintely hit his stride. Hope this time off doesn't take that edge off.

About Darwin's collision. It's not only a shame he is missing time in the NFL but that he suffered that type of injury. We can only hope it doesn't become chronic. I hope the woman is well too but I have to know: was she on the cell phone too?

On the Kalil story... I would hate to say this but I do love a good In-N-Out burger. It's good to eat real product when you spend your money. It's almost like eating at a mom & pop burger joint (with freshly made products) except it's corporate. It's a shame these corporate franchises have taken over every industry these past couple of decades. Now I feel I'm just dishing out money just to be taken advantage of everywhere I turn or go.

Yep, KeepingitReal, those In-and-Out's are really good. I guess the closest thing in Charlotte would be Backyard Burgers. And they have the smallest menu I've ever seen!

Stewart will be fine. I'd use him sparingly, maybe in short yardage, maybe as a play-action decoy at the goal line. This kid's going to be good. I LOVE watching him break through tackles for those tough yards. Foster only did that in one game, but it was an important one. :)

Stay on their a$$es from start to finish, show 'em what Panther football's all about!!!

Cook Out isn't bad and they have a decent menu and generous amounts for your money.

Although I know it's probably not possible, but I'd like to see Stewart deactivated for a couple of weeks to heal up while the schedule is soft, and bring up Decori Birmingham from the pratice squad to get a little playing time; to get some experience playing at real game speed.
Just a thought....
Go Panthers!

Something just does not sound right to me. Before the bye week, we hear nothing about a heel problem. Now, returning from the bye week there is an issue after he returns from Oregon to see his friends. Something sounds fishy to me. I just hope nothing serious has happened to our soon to be football star.

FIREFOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something is screwy here. He didn't get hurt in the game. Something tells me that we was out working shenanigance with his friends and he sprained his heel. It's one of those things that are easy to cover up, but still irresponsible. That's the conclusion I draw up.

Didn't Fox say that he hurt it during the Arizona game?

I'll admit that I was leaning towards the chance that stew might have hurt that foot in a pick up b-ball game back home last weekend, so I ran the tape and watched the game again. Sure enough, late in the 4th quarter the network camera's stayed on him while he walked to the sideline after a play just long enough to see that he was favoring that heel. It wasn't a great big limp, but you could tell the kid was trying to tough it out and make it to the bye. Ya know, sometimes when we read so much media bull s--t, the truth falls on cold ears. Personally, I'll take the truth any day.

Sounds like plantar fascitis...but man I hope not, that's bad sh*t. Hopefully Stewart will be ok...

Man it is nice to see the drastic decline in negative comments on the boards the past couple of weeks.
