More Gruden on "Buzz-Saw" Beason

As we posted earlier today, Tampa Bay coach called Panthers linebacker Jon Beason an "every-down buzz-saw as a linebacker" during a conference call with reporters this morning.

Here's what else Gruden had to say about the Panthers' leading tackler and defensive quarterback:

"I tell you man, I don't know if people are getting national ink for him. ... but he never comes off the field. He plays with such intensity. I've seen him win games for them with effort and just physical play and instinctiveness.

"I just think he's one of the ring leaders for the franchise now and I really think he's an inspiring football player."

I love Jon Beason, but it seems recently he has forgot how to tackle.

Gruden is only trying to pump up Barrett Ruud. He always pumps up his players by praising the other team's players. Especially the defensive players.

Posted by: Ron Benjamin | Dec 4, 2008 4:40:27 PM

Or trying to make Beason less hungry or overconfident.

This is the mind game Coach Gruden has played in the past. The Panthers have a 9-3 record but our play since the bye has sputtered at best compared to our talent level. We need to step up our intensity and play our best on MNF.Beason get our defense fired up.Jake, this is your team.Go Panthers!

Gruden is just playing mind games. He'll know first hand how good our team is when they're running him down on all 3 phrases of the game.

save the talking, this is not like last time

prepare for an a$$ whooping b*tches. revenge is our motivation. ya team embarrassed us, and even worse showed no class or respect out there. dancing celebrating and making a mockery of us. ok so you come to our house monday and will regret it

I feel like as long as long as the defense doesn't go for the bootleg gimmick and use beason to spy on the back field to see what's going on before anyone breaks coverage. The corners follow through with the pass coverage on receivers in some cases and tight ends in different types of I formations including offset, certain shotguns and singleback.

If the linebackers are what the scouts wanted then they should only pursue run when Jon Beason moves in or follow in coverage for play actions. The backs can't get caught in stopping the run. That means the back thats covering the tightend doesn't pursuit until it is decided where the tightend is going to block to plug in the holes.

There's a lot to it but thats what they get paid the big dollars. Beason needs to make sure that all backs are on the same page as him, so they can continue to cover. That means letting other backs know where the ball is being thrown to which receiver during a pass.

Gruden is cunning but regardless of his hidden agenda he is partially correct about Beason. To think he wasnt the top ranked linebacker in the draft but he is already a pro-bowler in my opinion. Gamble is a Panther for half a decade, Beason has a long contract, Smitty has a long contract, J. Stewart has a long contract, and R. Marshall has a long contract. We need to lock down Peppers for at least 4 years and loose the following players to continue to have cap space and add more fresh talent: Ken Lucas, Landon Johnson, Jake Delhome, DJ Hackett, and all of the O-Lineman except Kalil and Otah. Let the contracts fizzle out or make trades for draft picks or a QB backup like D. Anderson of the Browns. For the last decade the Patriots have remained a Playoff contender and within cap space because of proper player movement. Jerry Richardson and mgmt/coaching in past years gave to many chances to the Dan Morgan/K. Jenkins types (injury prone), the USC WR draft busts, old players with good morale/loyality, and expensive free agents which very few free agents have really contributed to the franchise. I was impressed with what the Panthers organization did this offseason which was dump all of the old and injury prone players. They turned an old injury prone expensive team into a team that has only about 8 or less players above the age of the 30. By doing so they created a young, fast, and tough team that is able to make cap space and re-sign the elite players. Keep it up Richardson/Hurney/Fox keep moving the players in and out based on age, salary, injury, and co-hesivness. Forget loyalities look what that has done to the Panthers the last 3 years except this one and look at what that is doing to the Bobcats now. 27 to 17 Panthers over Bucs.

Sell my House, that's why when the play is snapped you yell "run" or "pass", I played football, that's what you do and I have seen the panthers do it. Yes we still need to try to be on the same page, but when Beason or Harris yells it they react to what they yell, if they yell pass, then they drop back. If they yell run, then they pursue the ball carrier. Just an FYI for some simple ways to explain how defenses work.

the panthers also need a blog and a forum for visitors to give their input on games. Get a few dedicated moderators to monitor the posts then you will have a group of fans really showing their support and they may feel like they are heard.

Just show up and be loud! It doesn't matter what you wear. Don't go get in some hot dog line at halftime and miss the 3rd quarter. Get yer beer and get back to yer seat and start making some noise (at the appropriate times). Bang on the seats, blow your trumpet, fart real loud if you have to...just get your whole section pumped up!
This is MNF and the Buc stops here!

Well Puke Lax I hate negative people especially those who use caps lock so I guess we can agree that we hate one another. Besides I am not a columnist nor an ESPN analyst so the opinions I type are just opinion so who cares? I was just making a point the player moves they made this offseason was the best I have seen yet and I hope they can continue to do so. You think idiots ruin blogging well I think a-holes do.

Take this to heart, and it's the truth when it comes to Jon Gruden,in fact think about what Im about to type and you will know what Im speaking of...............

Everytime that Jon Gruden praises or kisses an opposing teams player's azz in a confrence call with the "media" it is a sign that it's who he his gameplanning against,it happened last time with Jake and Pepper's and has the whole tenure Gruden has been with the succaneers.

It's true.

On a wonderful note, it seems the Proctologist has finally left this blog. On a terrible note, it is quite possible he left because the blog was being taken over by no-knowledge a##-clowns. I must be a masochist for still reading this garbage.

Posted by: Steve | Dec 4, 2008 11:15:49 PM

He is a very solid soon to be pro bowler. He delivers where Morgan could not. An excellent draft pick!!

WHEN DID THE PANTHERS GAME VERSUS THE BRONCOS GET CHANGED TO 4:15PM?

Posted by: Yeah? | Dec 4, 2008 11:41:38 PM

And what are the odds that the Panthers game at the Giants will be moved to 8:15?

Posted by: Yeah? | Dec 5, 2008 12:35:25 AM

I know I still read the blog. I just don't post anymore because I have my own blog I coblog on to post on.

Don't read too much into these praises by Gruden. It's really just way for him to pump up his own players at the same position. You want your players to step up, you start praising the other team. Makes them feel insecure in their jobs and stir them to action.

At least that's what I get from it.

If the Panthers/Giants game is to be moved to the primetime slot, expect a decision shortly after the Panthers' Monday night game. The decision needs to be made at least a week in advance and NBC will need some time to get promos and ads ready. If the Panthers lose Monday the chances of the time switch decreases especially because NBC already has a decent matchup with the Chargers/Bucs game. At the very least I expect the Panthers/Giants game to be moved to a 4:15 time slot, but if we beat the Bucs Monday night, expect another primetime game on the 21st. The Giants and Panthers would probably be competing for home field advantage.

There has to be 10 days notice of a change in time. We got almost two weeks with the Denver game. Fox can't move the Giants game to 4:15 because the Jets play at 4:05 and they never let the Jets and Giants play at the same time. It may get moved, or Fox may move a lot of other games to 4:00 to get maximum exposure.

A few years ago, Gruden said "That Mike Minter scares me to death", then burned Minter for a 50 yd td. Gruden has spotted a flaw in Beason's play and will take full advantage of it.

i feel we have great talent. i like our off line. we need a solid #3 receiver.on def i feel lucas has to go. did you see beason screaming at him at grenn bay.espn mag said thats why smitty punched lucas, becase he really doesnt seem to care.

Posted by: ray | Dec 5, 2008 6:56:24 PM

This is one of the biggest games we've ever played. And it's televised on MNF. Charlotte has TO BE LOUDER THAN EVER! Take away their ability to call audibles...SHOW THEM WHAT PANTHERS FANS ARE ALL ABOUT!!! Don't worry if we have a bad play or get down in the game, KEEP POUNDIN'!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Panther_Fan96 | Dec 5, 2008 7:48:24 PM

Well, get ready to be whipped again by the Bucs. Gruden likes to compliment the other team before the game--just beware the Chucky smile! Bucs rule the south!
