We may have lost the game and the 1st seed, but we looked like a respectable team on national television. The best team in the NFC, the defending Super Bowl champs, got all they could handle from the Panthers. Lets rest up and go win one @ New Orleans and lock up the #2 seed and a 1st round bye! Go Panthers!

I think this showed we're a lil more than "respectable". 4 or 5 weeks ago after Oakland and Detroit, people were all but handing the Lombardi Trophy to the Giants. Now we walked into Giants Stadium...punched them in the mouth and, yes they won, BUT they were expected to win. I thought before the game that I had reservations about this game going into it. I think that both the Panthers' and the Giants' are too good to lose to one another twice. And it concerned me that if we had won, I didn't feel we could do it again in three weeks. Now, I feel we figured more out about what it takes to beat them, then they found out what it takes to beat us. (does that make any sense? lol) Some ultra-conservative play calling did us in...I'll be honest...BUT i can't say I wouldn't have called the same things. I think starting with the Tampa Bay game we've showed week in week out, that we are at the top with the Giants. And now we proved that their homefield "advantage" is almost a null point. A lil less wind and we're all talking about what the Giants have to do to beat us....makes me sick when people look at this loss in such a bad light. If it takes a team running 300 yards on us to BARELY win...that isn't going to happen again...I'll take a loss in the regular season over a loss in the post season EVERYDAY. heal up panthers, give it to the Saints, and everyone put 18 January on your calender. We're taking back our NFC crown.

thanks clay, your post actually made me feel a little better. it was just hard to watch when we were so close to winning that game and seein the defense choke it away. what happend to that defense that used to hold teams to under 20 points EVERY game?? its strange cuz it seems like we have more talent on that side of the ball then ever before. but as long as we beat the saints next week this game will be forgotten. im sure our team will be hungry to make up for this loss but i am a little worried about the saints offense when our d cant seem to cover anyone... but at least we arent in the position that Tampa Gay is, hopeing for someone to lose or the redskins/eagles who are out of it completly.

What has happened to this defense. They have not been good since before the bye week. I just can't understand if we are running more zone to let corners and safetys diagnose run plays quicker b/c the coaches know the d-line is struggling right now. But it might just be me but everytime a team needs a third down we are in a zone and the slot reciever or tight end runs a 5-12 stop turns around and first down. The 3rd down percentage has to be a joke in the league rankings, and that all comes from the fact that we don't blitz... ever. I think our secondary is just as good as the giants and I know how lb's are... but they are blitzing like crazy and playing aggressive man to man defense and look at the results... they may give up a big play or two but they also make things happen especially on third and medium plays where the panthers cant get off the field.

John Kasay is an incredible kicker and a better person; however, I am concerned about his ability to come through when the stakes are at the highest. For example, he kicks off out of bounds and gives Tom Brady incredible field position on the final drive of the Super Bowl, which ultimately lead to our defeat. Also, his execution and timing were way off on the field goal attempt last night. It makes me wonder if his nerves don't get the best off him.

I agree with ClayB25. When our defense starts thinking we are in trouble. I wish the coaches had more faith in our team. Our coaches conservative strategy while keeps us in games sometimes - also works against us > Let the lbs and corners run > I would rather go down swinging vs. a lineman dropping back for pass defense???

The hottest team in the league (the Carolina Panthers) lost to a struggling Giants team that has been reeling. The Giants dropped 4 potential picks. For the Giants to be a 2 point favorite at home actually is like saying the Giants weren't favored to win because Homefield advantage automatically gives the home team 3 points. I guess I would be excited if I was a Panther fan knowing that you gave up 300 yards rushing, didn't allow a sack from one of the best defensive lines in football, were up 11 and couldn't close the deal, and got dominated in rushing yards, time of possession, and defensively the second half. Yeah, I can see alot of good from this game if I'm a Panthers fan. Make the NFC South record 0-4 against the NFC East. Your best team can't even beat a reeling team that was down 11 at halftime. I see alot of positives. Duh. I would much rather the Giants play the Panthers again than the Cowboys in the playoffs

THE GIANTS MAY HAVE WON THE GAME, BUT THE PANTHERS WERE THE BETTER TEAM. NOW LETS REGROUP & SHOW THE WORLD HOW GREAT YOU ARE.

Who is to say why John Kasay had to take a stutter step before the attempted FG. He still came very close despite the wind blowing the ball to the left. The worst decision making was calling a pass play on third and 3 yards when we have 2 great RBs. We needed that first down. that was the turning point.

Craig the Giant,

You have a little bitterness in your tone. I was at the game last night and have the wind burnt face to prove it. The fact of the matter is we got conservative and gave you the game. I notice you talk about dropping four picks, well we dropped two that I remember, maybe a third, and by the grace of some supreme being your boy RJ recovered his muffed punt in OT. The game I saw, you guys had no pass rush, Jake had all day, Fox just would not let him pass. We also lost our two starting DT's one before, and one during the game, hard to recover but then again you know best. Only the winds up in Jersey saved your boys last night. You may get your wish and play us rather than the Cowboys, who by the way have not won a playoff game since Troy Aikman retired....Myself, I'd rather play Dallas than the Giants.

All is good fun and don't be so bitter. It was a great night for football and your team came out on top. The Giants fans behind me were loyal, boisterous, but they didn't throw snow balls on the field and they respected me rooting for the Panthers. They even gave my 6 year old some hand warmers because he was cold.

So why is that everybody seems to think that the road to the Super Bowl just naturally flows thru New York -- besides the impact of the usual embarrassing New York media hype. They may not even be there. Lord knows they hope they don't see the Cowboys again. In fact, a little less wind last night and the the vaunted Giants/Midgets have dropped three straight. THREE STRAIGHT! Not exactly 70's Steelers territory if you ask me. Here's the deal:the Panthers take care of business in the Big Easy and we could still see a Championship scuffle in the Queen City in late January. Remember you heard it here first.

THE GIANTS ARE NOT A BETTER TEAM. The Panthers played safe and conservative football despite all the matchup issues on both lines and still had the opportunity to put the game away twice: once at the end of regulation and once in overtime!!! Kasay's wierd false step may have been the culprit to the missed kick and lack of power necessary: THE PANTHERS DONE ENOUGH TO PUT THE GAME WAY, EXECUTION WAS NOT THERE. Then after the defense came out and stopped the Giants on offense in overtime. On 3rd down, Godfrey got in the way of an INT that was going straight into the arms of the patiently waiting Chris Gamble. THE GAME WOULD HAVE BEEN WON RIGHT THERE IN OT, whether the chose to kick a field goal from the spot of the INT or went for the TD on offense. THAT IS TWICE THE PANTHERS FAILED TO EXECUTE AND PUT THE GAME AWAY!!!

HENCE, NOT ONLY WERE THE PANTHERS THE BETTER TEAM, BUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO GO INTO THEIR BAG OF TRICKS TO OUTPLAY THE GIANTS!!!!!

Yea, we looked just like the classy team that we knew we where, and now the nation knows it too. Even though we lost, we shined. N.O. is next, and we will have at least one playoff game at home !

Nasty704 get in line and hope the Gnats don't use the much needed bye and next few weeks to heal and right their ship set adrift by Plexico and a host of injuries and distractions. The Panthers are not the only time with injuries and excuses along their defensive line. The GMen are actually better off on the road then at home. The stadium environment is as difficult for the Giants as it is for the visiting team and the last few weeks are well documented with controversy and injury. So don't get so cocky. The cats are 11 and 4 no small feat in the NFL. The Giant's are 12 and 3 and it ain't by fluke. The Giants have an NFL record in that they have played 10 consecutive games against teams with winning records. If they win Sunday they will have gone 8-2 against the best in the league. Their physical condition is a testament to the consecutive weeks of wars they have had to endure. You would do well to hope for a real fluke to come your way should you survive your first playoff game. You all my want to take a deep breath and let cooler heads prevail. The Giants are usually not the same team but better in the playoffs. And even that is not written in stone so be careful what you wish for.
