Checking in from the Super Bowl

Hello from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. We're going to use this blog to give you live updates from the Super Bowl and will probably work in a few Panthers items, as well.

It's overcast here in Tampa, with temperatures in the 60s, a great day for football. Sure looks like Steelers fans have their Cardinals counterparts outnumbered. The stands are about half filled now, 70 minutes before kickoff. Lots of black and yellow attire out there -- and "Terrible Towels," of course.

We have TV monitors here in the press box, so we can see not only the action on the field, but also NBC's coverage. Gotta say it's very impressive that NBC lined up three coaches who should make the Hall of Fame to provide studio commentary in Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy and Mike Holmgren.

Though it was 22 days ago, the national media is still buzzing about the Cardinals' upset win over the Panthers in Charlotte. Numerous times this week, friends from around the country stopped me to say they never saw that result happening and that they still found it difficult to explain. Me, too.

It'll be interesting to see if Hines Ward is healthy enough to be a factor today. He's been practicing with a knee injury, but if he can't make his cuts effectively, that'll really hurt the Pittsburgh offense.
