Panthers tag Peppers

The Panthers have formally placed their franchise tag on defensive end Julius Peppers. They're expected to announce a six-year contract later today with left tackle Jordan Gross.

More soon.

Nice work Marty. Go have a smoke and a steak and take the rest of the week off...oops you're at the combine. Nevermind. Congratulations...now get back to work and figure out who you're going to take with that high draft pick you're going to get from trading Pep.

Mr. Chandler,

I seem to remember Peppers being in Denver before the start of last season. I know they are going to a 3-4 defense next year, and should have plenty of cap room to go with a 12th overall pick in the upcoming draft. Have you heard any talk/rumors of this being a possibility? Also, What do you think the Panthers best trade options are?

OK, here are the 3-4 defenses ranked in order of 2008 performance according to nfl.com -- none of them are in our division. Which ones will Peppers accept as his trade destination? IMHO, it ought to be the Browns so he can wear orange. (Orange Julius, get it?)

NFC East - Cowboys 8 5 12 20
