Charlotte's Nicks to Giants

Hakeem Nicks, who played at Charlotte's Independence High and North Carolina, was just taken in the first round (29th) overall by the New York Giants. The Giants are in the market for a receiver after releasing Plaxico Burress. Another former Independence receiver, Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia, is also expected to go, probably in the second round.

-- Not real good news for former Panthers offensive lineman Geoff Hangartner, who recently signed a free-agent contract with Buffalo and was told he'd be the Bills' starting center. The Bills drafted Louisville center Eric Wood with the 28th pick. That doesn't mean Hangartner won't start, but he probably has to be wondering what's going on. -- David Scott

Realy did not want to see Nicks go to the Giants. Happy for him nonetheless.

I mean, it's not like they didn't sign Hangartner knowing he has extensive experience at OG. Wood has been talked about as a candidate who could start his career there, too, like Kalil did.
