More free agents signed

The Panthers announced the signing of their undrafted free agents and two veteran free agents Tuesday. There were three undrafted players not reported online yesterday -- Idaho State cornerback Derrick Clark, Wyoming linebacker Mike Juergens, Kentucky tackle Garry Williams. The veteran free agents are former Vanderbilt center Justin Geisinger and former Arkansas wide receiver Marcus Monk.

Yawn.....I don't understand why teams get these kids hopes up by signing them, just to usher them out the door before the regular season starts.

Smitty, these kids likely have a dream of playing in the NFL. Just because they were not drafted doesn't mean they should not be given that chance. No one forces them to sign a contract. At worst they are training camp fodder to help insure a starter does not get unnecessarily injured.

Smitty - not sure if you remember, but a certain Jake Delhomme was an undrafted free agent. Same with Brad Hoover.

Monk is the one that excites me the most. He has talent, but we might have too many receivers on the team already, who you gonna cut to keep him?

Plus, they often get signing bonuses, and if they come to camp, they make 70 to 100,000, most for signing and coming to OTA's etc make at least 40,000, fresh out of college, who wouldn't take that to play ball a little longer!

That Monk guy looks really good. I wonder why he wasn't drafted? Or better yet, why is he a veteran free agent with what appears to be decent skill sets?

Looks like Monk is an excellent route runner, and has speed and height. Might see him stick around if he shows well in training camp/preseason.

u serious?? What is funny is that the NFL has been around for decades and those were the only names you could come up with! Maybe you are one of the family members of these players. And I wouldn't be bragging on Delhomme being on that list so much. The last time I saw him step on the field, he played like an undrafted rookie. You fagaisey.

Seriously Smitty? You must know more than these crazy NFL teams... These guys probably sucked too right?

Dick Lane - Undrafted - Hall of Fame
Warren Moon - Undrafted - Hall of Fame
John Randle - 137.5 Career sacks - Will be in Hall of Fame

You know who else was a Undrafted Free agent??????

Well he won a Super Bowl this past season in which he was the defensive MVP of the league.... James Harrison

Monk looks nasty very legit backup, we usually keep 5 WRs, I hope the best for this guy. Perfect target for a hell mary, or one of Jake's ducks.

I believe that Cantwell will be our QB of the future. He has good arm strenght, pocket awareness, and great poise. He was once considered a potential #1 pick until he got stuck with an absolute horrible team for his final two years, and his stats dropped because he was trying to do too much in order to win games.

Isiah, you're way off on those signing bonuses. The Panthers are known to spend a lot of money on UFA signing bonuses, and our highest-paid guys were Favorite at $25K and Cantwell at $20K. Most are paid a few thousand, and some teams limit themselves to $2K on UFA bonuses. Add $2,000 to $825 a week during training camp, and you're really not talking about a lot of money.

ken, you're the only person I've seen that believes Cantwell's poise and awareness are strengths.

As for Monk, he's an interesting case, as he's got size and speed, but I do find it strange he didn't catch on to a PS last season.

I wouldn't mind seeing Monk doing what D. Jarrett should've been doing for the past two seasons.

Man, I hope at least one of them can contribute a healthy heap of productivity this year.

Monk was cut by the Bears in training camp after he continued to struggle with a knee injury suffered before the start of his senior season at Arkansas in 2007. He also had a short stint with the New York Giants.

His knee is reportedly 100% now. I hope he makes the cut because he is not only a great football player but a smart young man with a lot of character, who would represent the Panthers well.

monk is sick

Smitty...no, what is fnny is that wasnt enough names for you. THAT WAS JUST A LIST OF PEOPLE WHO ALSO WERE IN THE PROBOWL AND SOME OF WHOM WILL BE IN THE HALL OF FAME. And dont add Delhomme to the list? Im not gonna defend him but someone who MADE THE PROBOWL AND TOOK THEIR TEAM TO THE SUPERBOWL. Should be added to a list of pretty good players who went undrafted. Hilarious how ignorant people can be.
