Fourth-rounder Fiammetta signs

Fullback Tony Fiammetta, the Panthers' fourth-round pick in last spring's NFL draft, has agreed to a four-year deal with the team, according to his agent.

Fiammetta, who played at Syracuse, was considered to be perhaps the best fullback prospect in the draft. He's the second rookie signed by the Panthers, with defensive back Captain Munnerlyn (seventh round) of South Carolina agreeing to terms earlier this week. -- David Scott

Awesome! we got Brad Hoovers replacement signed for 4 years! What's put on paper sounds good, but whats put on the field needs to be twice as good. Hope to see some good production in the pre-season!

Hurney's typically not in much of a rush to get picks signed (none of our guys were signed until mid-July last year), so this is good news, particularly with our cap tight.

does this mean we can cut hoover and free up some salary cap $$$ ??

Yeah, lets cut the FB that helped create one of the best rushing attacks last season... that makes sense.

Things would not be the same without here the crowd say "Hoove" at the games! Fiammetta will definitely get his turn but for right now, that's Hoove's spot to keep!

What do you think about the new name for our running game is: "GROUND CONTROL"
We've gotta come up with a better nickname for DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, and Mike Goodson (but I like "GROUND CONTROL" because it shows some love to the big bruisers up front (Gross, Kalil, Otah, Wharton, Vincent, etc.) My new name for our running game is:

GROUND CONTROL

I think nicknames for "groups" of players is silly. Did The Cardinal backfield have a nickname? Nicknames do not win games, they just satisfy simple minds.

Nicknames give the Fans a little fun in their spare time. Gives them something to enjoy doing to help support their team. Since we can't be down on the field blocking and tackling with them, we can at least support them like fans are suppose to. But of course not supporting our team in creative ways is Michael Procton's idea of a fan.

fiam is our fullback for the future but how are they going to keep 2 fullbacks.?

Posted by: ray | Jun 30, 2009 1:40:41 PM

Ray, the same way we kept two kickers last season. We have 53 total roster spots, so we just remove one guy at one position, and add Fiammetta in.
