Tuesday's wild and wooly practice
Tuesday afternoon's practice -- the only one of the day -- was easily the most spirited of training camp. Twenty minutes or so was spent on an 11-on-11 drill (lots of contact, but no tackling allowed), which is when things got interesting:
-- A few scuffles broke out -- RB DeAngelo Williams vs. LB James Anderson and DE Everette Brown vs. RB Mike Goodson -- as temperatures approached 100 degrees, but neither was serious nor lasted very long. Safety Chris Harris loved it, yelling "It's hot out here now! Here comes the sun!" The temperatures, if not tempers, cooled later when clouds moved in ahead of some light rain.
-- Receiver Kenneth Moore had the ball stripped from him twice by defensive linemen, once by Damione Lewis and the other by Julius Peppers. As instructed by defensive coordinator Ron Meeks, Lewis and Peppers both ran the ball about 80 yards to the end zone, not an easy thing to do in the heat for the big guys. Moore, it should be noted, would probably argue that the whistle had blown on both plays before the ball came out.
-- Huge rookie OG Duke Robinson (6-5, 330 pounds) buried rookie LB Jeremy Leman on one play. Leman was ribbed by his defensive teammates and, coming off the field, he said, "I know, but I hit him!"
-- TE Gary Barnidge, still getting reps with the first team, caught a 20-yard TD pass from Jake Delhomme. Delhomme spent a little time yelling some trash talk to the defense on the sidelines after that one.
-- Big hit between two stars: Williams was met by middle LB Jon Beason behind the line of scrimmage. No tackling allowed, but a sold hit delivered by Beason,
-- R Muhsin Muhammad and CB Richard Marshall spent a lot of time discussing technique and tactics after one play in which one obviously got the better of the other.
-- After the 11-on-11, the team practiced kickoffs. Goodson has been the first guy in line taking them, followed by Captain Munnerlyn and Ryne Robinson. He's showing lots of promise with his explosiveness, but he did drop one. -- David Scott

Great Post! I've been waiting to hear about the young tallent and the spirt of the practice. Even if it's not about the big name players it's great to finally read a blog and feel like your there.

I would really like to see how Duke performs against the likes of Charles Johnson, Everette Brown, Or even Julius Peppers.

I got my Deangelo Williams Jersey autographed by Kenny Moore today, and I got a picture with him. He's a really nice guy, he seems to put some heart into his play, I hope he gets the 4th spot. Go #81!!!!

David,
What do you think about that video on sportscenter where micheal smith said that he believes that vick will sign with the panthers. I know you have said theres no chance that he signs here, but have you heard any new news maybe the possibility that he does? I just think its a win win for both the panthers and vick. I know it might be a little distraction with all the media but we could use vick and line him up on the field in many ways. Just a thought.

Im a huge Carolina fan in GA, yeah i hear it from falcon fans all the time!! But im like, David, is there any truth to the possiblity of signing Vick!! I saw the same report on ESPN!! I think it would be a wonderful move!! Imagine Vick, Smith, Williams or Stewart on the field at the same time!!! Jus a thought

Wow, yeah Michael Smith does think he'll end up in Carolina. That's interesting. Personally I can't stand Michael Vick, but in a weird way, I would like to see him in some creative packages that we could put together if he was on the field for us.
Here's the link to see the video:

Having Richard Marshal as a starter has got me a bit worried after watching an old college game versus USC in 2005. They were attacking his side of the field regularly and he looked pretty lost, just like he did last season at nickel. I know that was just one game years ago in college, but I hope it was Marshal that got the best of Moose in practice, not the other way around.

sign vick, sign vick

PETA stated that they will go to war with any team that signs Vick. If he gets signed it should be interesting to see all the protests at BofA stadium on game days.

Vick is not worth the Panthers Time....The Panthers would lose a lot of Fans by signing Vick......I know I would be looking for another team...He was a average QB and he enjoyed murdering helpless dogs. Not a great leader...Last thing I want is him shooting my family the bird before he walks into the locker room, he did it in Atlanta and he will do it here....NO TO VICK.....

Ron Mexico will spread herpes to all the women of Charlotte!

Run first offense, shaky starting QB, emerging wildcate trends in NFL and a stern, no games head coach who is always in charge = a good situation for vick. no risk, all reward

Yea, I mean if Tony Dungy can look at Michael Vick and see that he's a changed guy and that he's changing is life around for the good....I say give him a second chance.
Now camp. I know Steve Smith is hurt, but what many forget is that its STEVE SMITH. The guy is relentless he doesnt want to be out so he will play vs the Eagles. Let him maybe play the last 1 or 2 preseason games and thats it.
I'am hearing from espn like little injuries on Jonathan Stewart and Thomas Davis. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ALL THEM!

I almost forgot Julius Peppers. This guy seems pretty much fit for the season. He looks real good considering holding out for a while. I've seen him at practices showing Brown some good ropes for the game and Brown seems to be catching on pretty well. Put both of them on each side I think we got a pretty nice(NICE)duo of DE's.
LB I think from what Ive seen is Dan Connor is a very nice backup. If Diggs left we have a Pro bowl OLB. Not yet but by the end of the season he will very good and I can just about guarantee he will start next year. That is all. Thanks
