Five signed to practice squad
The Panthers signed five players who they cut on Saturday to their practice squad: Quarterback Hunter Cantwell, receiver Jason Chery, linebackers Kelvin Smith and Mortty Ivy and defensive tackle George Hypolite. That leaves three more to sign, presumably cuts from other teams. -- David ScottPosted by Observer Sports on September 6, 2009 at 05:10 PM | Permalink

Did anyone pick up J. Leman? I thought he deserved to make the roster.

don't we follow cuts? isn't brett Rhom still roming around. and Chase Daniels? imo, they are better than cantwell. and why would we keep kelvin smith over Jeremy Leaman? he better have been clamed by another team. same for Favorite, way better than hypolite. i question these moves.

Dang, coach Vance, did you tell coach fox? Who else was clamed you would have kept?

Brohm went unclaimed and went to the Packers practice squad, Daniels went to the Saints practice squad.... and where the heck is Leman and Favorite? They were great players.

Vance I agree with you totally. I swore Leman was going to be signed to practice squad, I felt he should have made the fifty three man roster, Favorite, definitely. Jason Cherry, are you kidding me. Monty Ivy, good choice. Landon Johnson should have been cut, regardless of the salary cap situation. Nate Salley should have been cut a year ago.

this is sad if the Panthers let leman go and didnt even go after Brohm or Booty tells me that they just want to do whatever like and don't know anything about searching and finding talent and ofcourse hard or hidden talent peace John Fox and Marty Hurney hello new and hopefully much better and smart FO

My Feeling is what are the Panthers doing right now they seem to be going cheap and no experience what going on.

Are you kidding me ?

Cantwell is a fine, raw talent with a rocket arm. But he couldn't start at Louisville until Brohm left. Panthers should have picked up Brohm, he is the real deal.

Brohm is a bust!! Forgrt about him. The guys on Sirius NFL radio even said so. He has too slow of a delivery, and I guess all 32 teams felt the same way or he wouldn't have cleared waivers!

Ummm...OK. A bunch of no-names and never will be's. This is the practice squad you are talking about. Who Cares. As long as they can stand there and get hit its really no problem.

Everyone from Louisville SUCKS people. How many do we have to have in here for you to realize it?
Eric Shelton
Randy Fasani
Stefon Lefors

Randy Fasani went to Stanford, not Louisville.

i don't understand the RB much less his combine time was 4.7. now barring just a bad day what in the world. i am a fan but if we need a DT and cap room is short we pick up a slow RB for PT/KR when we could have got someone else. i am lost. i see the DT we have Kemo when he comes back. but this move blows my mind.

Brohm definitely would not have cleared waivers if he were any good. He certainly would not have made it down to the Panthers, who have the 28th waiver claim spot. Once they are not claimed, the players essentially have the choice of what practice squad they wish to be on. Obviously, he hasset up shop in Green Bay, so it would be pretty foolish to move on from there.
Favorite was really not all that good in my opinion. He was undrafted at the DT position. He cannot play special teams, which greatly limits his value to a team looking to add on to the end of a roster. I am much happier with who we picked up. At least someone thought enough of him to use a pick.

Panthers need a change in FO, so you think they should have claimed Booty to Brohm? When you claim someone on waivers, they go onto your 53 man roster, not your practice squad. We don't have room for 4 qb's on the roster. OK, so maybe you think we should have tried to sign them to the ps once they cleared waivers? Who do you think they will sign with, the team that they went through camp with and whose playbook they know, or the Panthers?

Brohm has a poison pill in his contract, many teams were interested but afraid of the escalators.

Panthers Deserved to be 2-14. If they don't Fix the Defensive of Line and get very good Defensive Tackle. This is so stupid us going with these Tackles. Panthers will be the Joke of the Season. Every Running back will be super Star Running Against us. Are you Kidding me using loser DT like hyaden; my opinion he should been cut long time ago.
Posted by: Al-King | Sep 7, 2009 2:45:44 AM
Al-King: Instead of whining, can you please tell us which "very good Defensive Tackle" you wants us to sign? What contract will you give he btw? I assume you know hos much we have left under the cap as you seems to know what we should do?
Hyaden is no starter but I think he can be a solid rotation player at a cheap price.

Did ya'll ever think that maybe Lehman didnt want to be picked up on our practice squad because he may wait to see if there are opportunities out there from other teams? Wow-too many chiefs...not enough indians. Of course we would sign him to the practice squad, but he obviously thinks he can make it on a team. Geez
Posted by: darealpanther | Sep 7, 2009 9:53:51 AM
Here is further proof that the Panthers are lost in personell moves. Lehman was the most productive linebacker out of the new guys in camp. Out of the five selected only the DT makes sense. Cantwell is not a QB of the future and Chery was still a virgin as for catching a pass under pressure. Fox has no clue in making a team a team. The organization still believes Jake is the answer and we as fans see that he is not. We need someone to return kicks, why not consider Holly that Dallas cut? Watched the guy and he never failed to gain when returning and even scored a TD in preseason. We need a new coach who brings in a new attitude soon!

Any truth to the rumor that Jake Delhomme is being traded to the Chargers for Billy Volek?
Posted by: Armon Gilliam | Sep 7, 2009 12:32:45 PM
Lehman signed on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.
