#Panthers' Peppers said #Cowboys "didn't do anything special" to defend him

Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers was held without a sack for the second consecutive game in Monday night's 21-7 loss at Dallas. The only statistics he was credited for on the official defensive stats sheet were two tackles, one solo and one assist.

Peppers, who is being paid more than $1 million per game this season, was asked in the locker room how Dallas contained him.

"What they were doing to me?" he said. "Nothing special. I can't sit here and go over every play and how they blocked me, but I didn't see anything special they were doing."

Peppers said he could have played better.

"Always," he said. "Even when I play well, even people say I played great, I still think I can do better. That's never going to change. Good or bad. Win or lose."

Peppers has one sack in three games after having a career high 14 1/2 last season.

What did they do....like every other team, blocked and contained him with one OL or TE 95% of the time.

If the Panthers flat out cut Peppers tomorrow morning, would they still have to pay him?

Posted by: Phil | Sep 29, 2009 12:55:34 AM

yes we have to pay him. Marty Hurney should be fired. He pissed away a first round pick, that is now a top ten pick, for a DE that doesn't play. now we have DE that doesn't play, who is hurt, and a DE that isn't hurt, but can't play. way to eff up. this organize is losing fan patience by the second.

Posted by: Vance | Sep 29, 2009 1:01:01 AM

No we wouldn't have to pay him for the remaining games because his money this season isn't bonus $. But it wouldn't do any good, theres not enough good players out there now to help the team that we could spend that $ on. We'll have to hold onto Peppers until the offseason in which we can hope for a trade to a team that he'll sign a long term extension with. We've got to get a 1st rounder back since we traded ours away :/

Is there anyone who wouldn't take those 2 2nd-round picks the Patriots offered for Peppers? Too bad that offer is gone, it looks like absolute gold right about now. I'd take it without a second thought. The way its looking now, Peppers will probably walk after the season and we'll get nothing for him. Which is better than having him tie up all our cap space, but still sucks. Should have traded him when we had the chance!

Posted by: Jim | Sep 29, 2009 1:05:59 AM

Right now I think we should trade him for the hot redhead cheerleader the Cowboys had, at least she's FUN to watch on TV. Let's face it guys, he's throwing the big finger to the organization that franchised him with his lackluster effort, and LAUGHING all the way to the bank.

PEPPERS SUX- WHAT THE HELL DID HE DO TONIGHT- NOTHING

Posted by: Wiggles | Sep 29, 2009 1:21:22 AM

These commies are not posting my stuff again! Your friends and family members are risking their lives to kill "a-rabs" so you can go to the beach on $10 worth of fuel instead of $20, meanwhile evoking nationalistic BS underlined with their version of "democracy" and "freedom", and I can't even get a simple post published with nothing offensive in it??? WHY ARE THEY SO SCARED OF PRINTING THE TRUTH!?! Communist Capitalism at its finest yet again!

...I usually copy my posts in so I can keep posting them over and over again until they go through but I got complacent and didn't do so this time. Anyway, on the third quarter post, before the analysts started in with their BS, I wrote:

They are going to cover Jake by leaving out the fumble he committed (as usual) and focusing only on one interception (the one they can blame on Smith. Even if that was the only turnover he committed, why did it throw it when there was nothing there anyway??? What, was Smith going to beat ten opposing players to get a first down??? What a joke.

I also pointed out how Meeks found the perfect spot for Poopers to line up on gameday... the sidelines. What does that scumbag have so far, two tackles in three games?? What is that, almost two million per tackle?

I also pointed out how they gave one of these jokers $20M guaranteed and the other the franchise tag at a ridiculous amount! Oh yeah, they also gave the golden boy Kasay a contract extension during the bye week last year when he still had more years on the original and others were waiting for extensions??? Then they make Gamble practically the highest paid DB in the NFL soon after that. He is good, but not that good. So what was the management's/ownership's message??? I think it must have to do something with lipstick and pigs if you ask me. AND NO I DON'T "GOTTA-WANNA-HAVE...!" In fact, I have been embarrassed by the whole thing for a while now and it only keeps getting worse! It gets really hard to call yourself a Panther fan around others who are not with this inexplicable insanity going on.

Look at the Packers! Publicly owned, they make prudent decisions with their players and they have for Panthers running their defense. And how about that defense? They (Capers, Greene and Trgovac) are dominating!

GO PACKERS!!!

maybe we can trade Steve Smith for a high first rounder next season....he's only got another year or two left, once he loses a step, his career is over since he doesn't have typical WR size.

Posted by: Phil | Sep 29, 2009 1:50:34 AM

Trade Smith??? Not a chance and he got an extension year before last and is signed til 2012.

Peppers is the one that has to be traded.

Also need to say Bye bye to Hurney, Fox, and Dellhome!!!

We need a 1st round pick this next year for a QUARTERBACK!!! Quit trying to find a bargain QB in the later rounds of the drafts we want a franchise QB! Tim Tebow would work!

The consistent thing through the last 3 games is in fact that it is not ONE player. Sure, Peppers stunk last night and Jake had picks. There were a lot of holes in the team, both sides.

What I don't get is what happened coming out of half time. Sure, we weren't the best we've ever been, but that last drive for a TD looked great and crisp. They had that feeling and that look... and then let it go. Were they satisfied to just get a TD?

I do think things are beginning to crumble a bit. I know the Panthers organization will not listen to much fan feedback (can't blame them) but they do need to take a look at what is going on.

Our play calling is too conservative most of the time, especially when we are last 2 mins and time is against us. No down the field tries inside 2 mins? 5 yds here, 6 yds there? They should have done that during the rest of the game and we'd not had the final 2 mins to try a miracle.

Our major successes of the past several years have been built on the comeback. They have been called Cardiac Cats because they could not get a big lead and hold it. But they found a way to pull it out. Now, they can't find a real lead to save their lives, and pulling something out in the end isn't even an option when you are so behind.

Not sure WHO should be fired, but someone big needs the axe. This organization is too well known for holding on to players they like, regardless of the results. The players aren't afraid of their jobs and they should be. Things need shaking, and badly.

We have an coach and offensive co-ordinator that are too conservative, a QB that can get the job done when he isn't turning it over (becoming a major problem here!) and certain defensive players that don't want to be here and are playing like it.

Something has to change... and soon please!

Peppers looked like the biggest waste of space last night! HOW does he get MANHANDLED by a freakin TE???? Really Pep, is Witten that dominating of a blocker. You're pathetic, but I guess when you're making 1 mil a game you can play whenever you want. At least he's just hurting his own stock by playing like an ussy!!

Posted by: JW | Sep 29, 2009 7:22:12 AM

The Panthers have played their hand. After looking at Peppers perform this season, there is no way in h@## any team is going to give us a first round pick for him, maybe a late second, but that's it. Panthers need to just let him go, and invest those franchise dollars into rebuilding this team.

Posted by: skynz71 | Sep 29, 2009 7:36:46 AM

Other teams has Jake and Steve's number. I think it is rather simple; contain Steve by keeping defenders in his face, and rush Jake. This is what the teams has been doing and since last year it has been a guarranteed win, and they will continue doing this until Panthers "demostrates" a solution.

We should trade Peppers straight up for Kevin Kolb

Posted by: Losing patience | Sep 29, 2009 8:19:26 AM

peppers did not want to be on the team anymore and it shows!!!but with him playing so below average he does not understand that all the other teams see that too?peppers is a classic version of a dumb jock!
and i also think that is why jon beason was so frustrated!!he knows how julius feels and he is mad as h#LL!!rightfully so

They didn't have to do anything special to stop him when he's laying an egg all game long...

i'm game ready!

Tim Tebow is garbage, at least get a real quarterback..Good that the Panthers have a week off, they will need it, they have some tough games ahead. Maybe Jake can see a therapist on why he is over rated...

PEPPPER WANT OUY BECAUSE HE KNOWS THERE IS NO POOR COACHING AND THE TEAM HAS NO HEART///IT IS TIME FOR STEVE SMITH KICK SOME PLAYING IN THE ASS LIKE HE HAS BEFOR EHE HAS HEART AND THAT WINS.......

Posted by: boydsgrigg | Sep 29, 2009 10:21:23 AM

Peppers is still worth every dime...it just sucks that he's playing at 50%...and if in 8 months we trade him at 50% of his value to a team like NE, he will be back to the probowl in 2011...the solution is change...either in the way of doing things or the staff...maybe the new president will do something about it...

Posted by: jay | Sep 29, 2009 10:49:51 AM

the whole coaching staff needs to be fired. we didnt come out of the half playing the same defence we went back to being conservative only because we were up by 7 and we didnt blitz any more.we didnt run the ball enough and our special teams sucked like always. but i dont no about you guys but im starting to get sick and tired of the panthers, and im a big fan.some changes need to come real quick.

Posted by: jay | Sep 29, 2009 10:59:12 AM

"What they were doing to me?" he said. "Nothing special. I can't sit here and go over every play and how they blocked me, but I didn't see anything special they were doing."

"Peppers said he could have played better."

So I guess we can take Peppers comments as him finally admitting he is not getting it done. They did nothing special, but held him to 2 tackles and no sacks... It was big of him to say he could have played better. Gee, you think? Mr. Richardson must be livid that they are flushing $1 million dollars down the toilet every game they have to pay Peppers, and getting nothing in return, except a body on the field. Its time to blow up the GM THE coaching staff, the defense, and QB and start over...

Posted by: Mike | Sep 29, 2009 11:15:20 AM

time to start over mr. richardson
