Some QBs available in case #Panthers go shopping

After Jake Delhomme's five-turnover performance and a knee/ankle injury suffered by backup Josh McCown, there's at least a possibility the Panthers could go looking for a quarterback this week. If so, here are some available players:

Brian Brohm, 2008 second-round pick recently released by Green Bay

Jeff Garcia, former 49ers and Bucs starter released by Oakland

Joey Harrington, former Lions' first round pick recently released by New Orleans

Andrew Walter, ex-Oakland backup released by New England

A.J. Feeley, released by Philadelphia after Eagles signed Michael Vick

Brian Griese, former Tampa Bay starter

Gus Frerotte, long-time journey started some last season for Minnesota

Garcia please...

So in otherwords, you're saying we get the poo poo platter.

Wildcat for the rest of the season. Only passes we'll throw will be screen, smokes, and laterals. We can do this guys.

At this point I will take anyone over Delhomme.

Please get Jeff Garcia. At least he'll play well enough to snap Jake out of whatever state of mind he's in.

Posted by: Johnny | Sep 13, 2009 5:37:19 PM

I'd take Garcia out of that group.

Jeff Garcia wouldn't work well here.
He's too jumpy.
We like our QB's to drop back and sling it.

hell i'll take chris wenkie over jake!!

How about dumping All three of our QBs bringing in Garcia, Brohm, and promoting Cantwell to the number 3...all of the scrubs listed above are better than any of our guys

Two-words: Option offense.

Not even I know if I am being serious, but it would be fun to watch.

Michael Vick was available and we passed on him. Now we're desperate. Big deal! Why didn't we sign Vick for the bargain basement price of 1.6 million? I want RICHARDSON to get off his tired old butt and give us an explanation. I don't want to hear any "what's done is done" crap either. I want to know the thinking that went into that dumb decision. Because if they can't give an explanation as to how they missed that opportunity, then I don't trust this organization to find a good QB now. If they bowed to political pressures and image pressures for passing on VICK, then I'm ready to bring signs to the game that read: "Hey Jerry, how do you like your image now? Signed Michael Vick"

It is what it is !

Why do you think these players are available??--Because they ARE NOT ANY GOOD!

Stick with Moore--let him have a chance to play and get better. I like Jake but the guy is washed up--has been 3 years ago.

This is going to be just like 1997,2001, and 2002. We will go through the season floundering, playing without any heart at all, win a few games and still not have a legit quarterback. Finally, the management will decide that the life has been sucke dout of the team and fan base and deide to fire the coaching staff. Then we'll sign some undrafted high-spirited journeyman who will be our quarterback for the next six years. Life as a Panthers fan, gotta love it. The only thing consistent about this oragnization is its inconsistency.
We should be back in the league competitively in about....2012

Why??? Start Moore!

Posted by: ETDAD | Sep 13, 2009 5:52:59 PM

Because we like QBs here in the Carolinas.
Not overrated dog-killing RB's posing as QBs.

Imagine Vick running the Wildcat here, with Smith, D-Will and J-Stew

Fox/Hurney and company are too stupid to see that, which is self-evident at this point given they gave Jake $20 million guaranteed. An offense they should be fired for, ASAP.

Cowher or Shannahan to fix things? And we have no first round pick for Everette brown....who did nothing today, nothing. Thanks again Fox/Hurney

@ Johnny Cornbread

Please kill this M.Vick hype the guy been out the league for 2 years there no way he was ready to start for any team.Plus he learning how to be a QB in Philly he is in the same boat as Jake he can't read defenses, the only different he can run.

Posted by: Panther Da'mon | Sep 13, 2009 5:54:42 PM

Cantwell was the ONLY guy to move the offense in preseason - GIVE HIM A SHOT.
Do a "Ditka" and trade the entire draft for TEBOW next year. Do it. DO IT.

Posted by: panthernyut | Sep 13, 2009 5:58:05 PM

Matt Moore and if we go shopping Brian Brohm all day!

Posted by: brandon | Sep 13, 2009 5:58:39 PM

trade for tavaris jackson and do it fast

Posted by: matt | Sep 13, 2009 6:00:21 PM

What about Marcus Vick!

Posted by: Tony | Sep 13, 2009 6:00:35 PM

No not Joey Harrington!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't he in the UFL?

Posted by: Panthers Super Fan | Sep 13, 2009 6:02:24 PM

There were PLENTY of QB's available in the offseason! CUTLER could have been had for Jake and Peppers. DONE DEAL. 25 year Old FRANCHISE QB who is young and stupid but would have THRIVED with a coach and owner behind him!

You had Byron Leftwich, Griese, Garcia PLENTY of vets who are not franchise, but would have at least COMPETED for the position!

You dont give a JOURNEYMAN like Delhomme long term franchise money. But this staff is living in the past, they still dont believe that QB is THE most important position on the field!
