#Panthers addition of DT Hollis Thomas results in release of "Sunny" Harris

The Panthers had to make a cut to stay under the 53-man roster limit after signing veteran defensive tackle Hollis Thomas and are releasing rookie DT Ra'Shon "Sunny" Harris, who was picked up on waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers after final preseason cuts were made.

The Panthers opted to keep Antwon Burton, a three-year veteran playing with his fourth team, as their fourth DT instead of Harris. Burton had one tackle in a 21-7 loss to Dallas on Monday night.

Do whatever you want Hurney and Fox ,the end is near,THANK GOD !

Another warm body

Though Im not completely against this move, Richardson needs to reign in Fox and Hurney. This is just another example of them mortgaging the future to try to win now. Thomas has been a solid player in this league and is an immediate upgrade, but he's 35 years old. Sunny Harris is a rookie with real potential for years to come.
Panthers better go on a run after the bye and put together a respectable season. If they dont win now, we could spend years talking about 2009 when we lost a top-5 draft pick to SF and crushed our future with bad contracts.

In the words of broadcasting legend, Bill Maas..."too much, too little, too late

this team will be 3-3

Posted by: dude on the roof | Oct 1, 2009 10:30:09 AM

This team will be 3-3 next football season and not this year. We must beat the Redskins, Tampa Bay and The Bills. Each of these teams have terrible starts to this football season, like the Panthers and look forward to taking down Jake and the Panthers. I will be watching to see this 3-3 miracle. It is truly amazing how John Fox has OUT-FOXED the Richardson Family and Panther Fans.
Question: The Panthers will not sign Garcia, Why? You are right again, John Fox. He would show up Jake. Look at Old Bret Fauvre, he looks twice as good as Jake, who is younger and continues to throw interceptions with his choir boys backing him up. What do you expect they are trying to get a SuperBowl Ring?

Panthers need to get on the phone right now and trade Julius Peppers to the Raiders for Richard Seymour. Now theres a DE that plays with heart and loves football.

I would love to see us at 3-3 at the end of October, but I don't think it's possible. Based on the first three weeks I don't see how we can beat anybody. Offense can't score; defense can't get off the field.

Washington: Portis will run for 200 on us
Tampa: MAYBE we can beat them, but I'm not holding my breath.
Buffalo: We are a big fat get-well card for TO. Our DBs can't tackle him or keep him from catching the ball. Plus they have two good backs licking their chops ready to go up against our DL.

"Buffalo: We are a big fat get-well card for TO. Our DBs can't tackle him or keep him from catching the ball. Plus they have two good backs licking their chops ready to go up against our DL" Not to mention they'll have Lynch back and they're already one of the top rushing teams in the NFL! Still got faith though. To much talent to not produce all year!

remember, peppers will not be resigned so panthers will use that money to sign top notch free agents who will contribute immediately. That is why they drafted everette brown last yr.

Rather had Garcia.QB is a bigger issue. You can't beat any team if you can't score Hollis Thomas is NOT making Carolina a top 10 defense.

Posted by: hellfish | Oct 1, 2009 11:19:06 AM

We can't afford Garcia, thanks to Peppers making a million dollars a game.

Posted by: Ben | Oct 1, 2009 11:25:16 AM

It doesn't matter who they add, its still the same play calling. The coaches are outdated with their play calling and pass protection schemes. You only have one dominant defensive lineman in Peppers who is operating at about 50% effort. No penetration from the line, no pass protection. Then the offense is easily stopped by double teaming Smith, and using 8-9 defenders to stop any potential run. Hurney and Fox messed up this year. Face it. What's funny is we're looking for moral victories... LOL... we don't even look to win. If Jake has a somewhat good game, or if Peppers shows a little life is good enough for us. LOL... we are pitiful.

Garcia would show up Fox's adopted son, so he's out the question. They seem to be happy with IP Freeley & are dead set on never allowing Moore the time of day to see the field. What a terrible waste of time & talent this year is turning into all because of one stubborn, idiotic, head coach.

you all made some great points.i hope were 3-3 but im afraid chris cooley is going to kill us cause a fox def has never covered a tight end.t.o will be licking his chops in buffalo.we may squeak by tampa.

The defense needs a good DT to free up the linebackers. Hopefully he will do better than what we have now. If we can start getting pressure on the QB the defense will start to produce better.

Posted by: dundun | Oct 1, 2009 12:05:21 PM

Ray,a bright spot this past Monday was that the Panthers Defense actually did a decent job against Jason Witten,I was suprised, considering hes the best Te in the NFL.

Did someone really call Bill Maas a "broadcasting legend"? Oh my.

Posted by: T-Pain | Oct 1, 2009 12:29:53 PM

it bite them back in the butt for not signing those key free agents in the off season.Instead they gave Peppers 1mil per game,Jake extended Chris Gamble, etc

Posted by: Mike | Oct 1, 2009 12:44:23 PM

Sean Gilbert = Julius Peppers = suckers
I think Mr Richardson fired his sons, because he knew we were doomed with player choices

Posted by: Stephen | Oct 1, 2009 1:02:15 PM

Garcia wasn't looking too good this preseason when he played against 3rd string scrubs. He looked like a 39 year old QB at the end of the road. We've already got 1 QB who looks like he's there.

Posted by: Ashe | Oct 1, 2009 1:31:44 PM

Why is everyone still talking about Garcia? Are you wanting to trade Feeley for him? I know the internet is slow here in Baghdad, but I think I remember reading a story about the Eagles signing him, since we picked up Feeley.

Posted by: Airborne | Oct 1, 2009 3:28:11 PM

The Eagles released Garcia.

Posted by: Willz | Oct 1, 2009 3:45:21 PM

Portis will not get 200 on us. Which situation would you rather be in the Panthers or the Redskins? I live in the DC area and I would rather be Panther fan (which I am) than the Redskins. I say we'll take our frustrations out on the Redskins. The next three games are winnable. But the Panthers have to come to play for 60 not 30 minutes.

Posted by: Kevin | Oct 1, 2009 4:25:42 PM

I hate to say it, but Peppers hasnt done nothing thus far. I think this will be a good trade for us.
Trade pepper to New England for the first rd pick they got from okland ( to drat a QB) and for Vince wilfork. I think thats a hell of a trade. and next year we will have Kemo, and wilfork to star with lewis and lenoard to back back up. and use i 2nd rn pick on a good DE. and hire bill cower as our coach. what do yall think
