Panthers release DT Burton to make room for DT Tyler

The Panthers released defensive tackle Antwon Burton today to make room on the roster for DT Tank Tyler, acquired from Kansas City for a fifth-round pick.

Burton played in two games and had one tackle for the Panthers this season.

His release leaves Carolina with its deepest group of defensive tackles of he season. Hollis Thomas and Tyler can play the nose position, with Damione Lewis and Nick Hayden at the other DT spot.

Also today, the Panther signed DT Rashaad Duncan to the practice squad and terminated DT Terrance Taylor from the practice squad. Duncan formerly was a member of Tampa Bay's practice squad.

WOW, Panthers know how to trade but how about trading for a QB

Hmmm... I thought Hayden might be the one getting the axe.

I say a good job by the Panthers get this DT situation fixed this season. Not saying we have the best but with the trade and signing of Hollis we are defiantly better off than the beginning of the year.

Now if we can just keep wining games maybe this season won't be a total loss.

So are the Panthers all out of draft picks for next season?

Any chance the Panthers take a look at Galloway? They need a third reciever and he can still run like the wind.

Sweet-gotta love a DT with a name like Tank.

Why should we look at a reciever or Galloway and the QB can not throw.

Petey, you are so right!

I was wondering the same thing, we can't have many draft picks left. I know the first rounder is gone, and didn't we give up a fourth rounder for the DT from Cleveland that got hurt. Now a fifth rounder for another DT.

We better hope we can move Peppers in the off-season, or there will be no help coming via the draft.

PANTHERS! You gotta like this trade. We get a YOUNG, PROVEN DT who has roots in NC. Tank may start for years to come, and is an immediate player.
Panthers 5th round pick last year was TE Gary Barnidge, so dont act like we gave up too much.
Everyone forgets this a new D Scheme for the Cats, and they dealt with injuries and a complacent Pep early on. Now they have some reps, Pep is back, Harris is back, 2 solid DTs added, they are looking nice. If the run game keeps gaining traction, watch out!

The Panthers may not have many draft picks left for next year, but they'll have a lot of cash to go free agent shopping. One way or the other, Peppers $16m will be freed up and hopefully they'll let Gamble take a hike, too. That's several more mil.

they still have 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th round picks remaining in next years draft. stop trippin.

Why is everyone so upset about a 5th and 6th round draft pick. Both of the players we picked up (although one is on IR) can play for us for several years. D. Lewis is getting up there in age and Kemo has a large contract. These guys have the chance to be here when those guys are long gone. It hurts that we don't have a 1st rounder, but there are other ways to add players. When Cower get's here, he'll probably clean house a little and add a bunch of former Steelers via Free Agency.

ive always felt that draft day is vastly overated.look at the #1 picks from 2 or 3 years ago and most of them are marginals or flops.i would rather see us pick up established pros for late or middle draft picks. we stole chris harris for a 5th rounder and we got a starter from k.c for a 5th rounder.carolina has traditionally been bad in late round picking so they might as well trade those picks for guys that can at least contribute on special teams.
i never understood why teams give away established vets for draft picks.
