Updating the Panthers' remaining picks in 2010 draft

Tonight's trade with Kansas City for DT Tank Tyler in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round selection leaves Carolina with five picks in next year's draft. Here's a look at deals the Panthers have made in recent months and a look at the picks they have left.

2010 Draft

Round 1 -- Traded away to San Francisco as part of the deal to acquire DE Everette Brown in the 2009 second round. The Panthers also obtained a fourth-round pick in the deal that was used to select RB/KR Mike Goodson.

Round 2 -- Panthers still own this pick.

Round 3 -- Panthers still own this pick.

Round 4 -- Panthers still own this pick.

Round 5 -- Pick dealt tonight to acquire Tyler from KC.

Round 6 -- Panthers have the Oakland Raiders' pick for this round, obtained in a draft-day deal involving swapped picks last April. ... Carolina sent its own sixth-rounder to acquire DT Louis Leonard from Cleveland near the end of the preseason. Leonard played well early but now is on injured reserve with a broken ankle.

Round 7 -- Panthers still own this pick.

(NOTE: Carolina traded away its 2011 seventh-rounder to Green Bay for long snapper J.J. Jansen.)

I won't stay on the roof of a radio station until the panthers... but, I have decided to toss in the towel on this season. I will be back in 2010 when we have a new head coach, quarterback, and attitude.

The Carolina Panthers will be able to pick up a QB if they want in next years QB rich draft in the second year. There are a lot of good QBs coming out next year and there will be plenty to choose from. I mean how many years in a row can the browns and lions draft a first round QB.

That's QBs in the second round.

Mr. Chandler -

What are the chances that ND's Casey Clausen or Jevan Snead (Ole Miss) will be available in the 2nd round? We have a strong chance at getting a top 8 2nd round pick so here's hoping that Jevan's disappointing season and Clausen's lack of height (he's listed at 6'3, but I bet he's closer to 6'0) will give the Panther's a chance at 2 QBs with higher ceilings than the ones projected to go before them (Bradford, Tebow or McCoy). I guess there is a chance for Tebow here (with the slow throwing motion), but there is bound to be a GM who wants to fill seats with Mr. Tebow.

Clausen has Drew Brees size, Brett Favre arm written all over him.

My apologies, I meant Jimmy Clausen, not Casey (his brother and I believe, former Tennessee player).

Any truth to the rumor that the Chiefs will also throw in a couple of those pink armbands, in exchange for Jake Delhomme?

Aren't we getting some compensatory picks for Geoff Hangartner and Frank Omilaye? We lost both of them for healthy contracts and didn't sign any free agents. We should get maybe two picks between 3rd and 5th.

Thank you for pointing that out Mark. I would say, since the Panthers are not the almighty nationalistic Patriots (otherwise known as the New England Paper Champions), the answer to your question would be a no. We shall see.

Jevan Snead is horrible and it would be a fire-worthy move if he were drafted as a Panther.

Not a good sign when we're talking draft in the middle of October.

Trade Delhomme to Dallas for a cheerleader, a hot dog and a beer.

I say we make a play for Tavaris Jackson. I'd give up our second round selection in next years draft. He's mobile and has an arm. He'd be a upgrade for Jake. If we don't, then I'd like picking up Thaddeus Lewis from Duke. Mobile, has a strong arm. Would fit in with the Panthers...

Well-timed article, guys. When I heard the trade happened, I was wondering how many picks we had left.
