Gross surgery successful

The Panthers said today that left tackle Jordan Gross underwent successful surgery on his broken right ankle Sunday night after the team's 28-19 win over Atlanta.

Gross was injured in the second quarter when Falcons' defensive lineman Vance Walker, a native of Fort Mill, fell on his leg.

Gross is out for the season and is expected to be placed on injured reseruve. The Panthers haven't yet announced plans for filling his spot on their 53-man roster.

By the way, if you planned on watching the game on Thursday and have cable you are SOL. Thanks, I think the NFL pay per view is great. Great business plan, limit the number of people who can view your product.

By rule, NFL markets are required to show any local team game on a local television station in that team's market. Just like the Monday Night Football game earlier this year, Thursday night's game WILL be broadcast on a local station for Panther's fans. Any other games the NFL network telecasts that do not involve the Panthers are not shown locally with the DirectTV package.

Thursday's game will be carried on WAXN Channel 10 according to TV guide, this is a channel available over the air and on regular cable.

I hope that you are right. This is the email that I sent to the Panthers Offices:
To whom it may concern:

Will the game on Thursday be on local TV in Raleigh?

I am assuming that Raleigh is a local market?

Posted by: Steven | Nov 16, 2009 3:50:32 PM

Raleigh is NOT a local market. It is a secondary market. But is it really that hard to go out one night for a few hours to a bar or restaurant with NFLN?

The problem I have with the TV coverage is how they define the markets. I live close to Greensboro, NC. If a home game does not sell out and the local stations are blacked out it includes the GB area. However, for NFL Network games we are not "local". That is not right. The markets should be defined the same. I might not like the outcome, but it would be fair. This way they abuse you since they set the rules. Ripoff!
