Jake's no longer No. 1
Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme relinquished his top spot in interceptions Thursday night when Chicago's Jay Cutler threw five against the San Francisco 49ers. That gives Cutler 17 picks this season, most in the NFL. Delhomme, who hasn't thrown an interception in two weeks, has 13.
Detroit rookie Matthew Stafford (12) and Arizona's Kurt Warner (11) are right behind Delhomme. -- David Scott

Come on, Jake! You can do better than this! Don't let Cutler show you up. Throw a few more and you're back in the race.

i don't care one way or the other about the bears, but i am glad he threw all those picks so people can finally shut up about jake and his "league-leading int's" so overstated.

Heres some more comedy.
1)Whos the shortest reciever in the NFL?
2) Whos punched out more teammates?
3) Whos has thrown more temper tantrums?
4)Who plays the worst defense on rushed forced passes?
5)Who gets double teamed more?

Of note for this game: Matt Ryan ( 10 INT) is also in the top 5 in the league. Lets get him ahead of Jake on Sunday guys.

I am sure if Fox would have let Jake throw another 112 passes like Cutler this season so far he would retain his excellence in being the most picked off QB in the league.

Is that the same Jay Cutler everyone wanted the Panthers to trade for in the off season? I guess the grass truly isn't greener on the other side.

In a related story, jake moves to number one in the league in the gap toothed quarterback category.

i would take cutler over delhomme any day of the week. At least his yards are way up there with his high pick number. Jake throws three picks along with about 85 yds. ridiculous.

you guys are mean.

yeah i would take 14TD's to 5 any day...just because other qb's have finally caught up with the human tip drill doesn't mean he's any better than he was at the beginning of the year....seriously JOKE GOHOMME!!!!

the panthers will never be a contender again as long as jake is the starting QB.

I'm confused. Am I supposed to be proud of this? We took time to write about how things could be worse?

Don't worry Delhomme. You've still got him beat statistically. I did the math. Delhomme has had 221 attempts and 13 picks. That's 1 every 17 throws. Cutler has 338 attempts and 17 picks. That's 1 every 19.88 throws. shew, I was worried there.

You fans are horrible. Funny but horrible and these writers need to back the f' off. Give some good information. Jake is bad and everyone knows it, he has always been. He has just been better than worst, lately it's been the opposite. We have Atlanta who we should beat, but the game has to be played. Hopefully the offense will step up and the the defense will shut down. Along with Jake the receivers have to go and get the ball.

I find it most interesting that in the Arizona game on the 1st when Warner threw 5 interceptions and lost a fumble, the commentators were falling all over themselves making excuses for him. "The ball was tipped--you can't really blame Kurt for that." "He didn't expect Julius Peppers to pop up and grab the pass." I don't have statistics per se, but I do KNOW that several of the 13 interceptions thrown by Jake this year have been tipped balls, or situations where the receiver ran off his route, and several of his incomplete passes went through the hands of a receiver. I have, however, heard NOBODY make any excuses for Jake. I've seen Warner, Brees, Eli Manning, etc. throw some passes that the receivers had to practically stand on a teammate's shoulders to catch, and the quarterback was applauded for his "accuracy." Jake has thrown passes, and one of our receivers made an outstanding grab (which is what separates the men from the boys in wide receivers), and the comment was, "Boy, Jake got away with one--that was nearly intercepted." I was truly hoping that Jake would be benched for the Arizona game--not because I was afraid of the outcome--but simply because I thought he could use a break from the criticism. According to what I've pieced together, John Fox pretty much lisetened to Jake in order to make the final determination. I, for one, think that was a courageous decision both on Fox's and Delhomme's part. After all, John Fox stood to lose a lot if he made the wrong choice. I think he made the right choice, and I think Jake is going to prove him right in the second half of the season. GO JAKE-GO PANTHERS!

Really good points, Panthergirl. Jake is everybody's favorite scapegoat, and he's expected to fail, so when disaster strikes the Carolina offense, everyone scrambles for the nearest bus to throw him under.
Now, don't get me wrong. A good handful of Jake's turnovers were all his fault, all by his lonesome. Howwever, he hasn't been the lone problem with our offense's efficiency, and I for one certainly don't think he's a bad as his stats would indicate. Not THAT bad.
His box score would have been pretty damn impressive against New Orleans if his targets held up their end of the bargain. I distinctly remember at least two touchdown passes being dropped, and Jake hit them right in the numbers.
