Mixing, matching at safety?
-- With Charles Godfrey's sprained ankle apparently healed, the Panthers might have three healthy safeties for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Godfrey, the starter at free safety, has missed four games, and was replaced while he was out rookie Sherrod Martin, who has three interceptions in that span.
With Martin's emergence, it might give the Panthers a chance to experiment with various combinations of the three safeties -- Godfrey, Martin and strong safety Chris Harris -- in Sunday's game.
"We can mix them in, based on situations and matchups, a lot of things," said Fox. "It's a good problem to have, with them healthy."
-- Strongside linebacker Na'il Diggs (ribs) missed practice again Thursday, as did defensive end Charles Johnson (pectoral).
Defensive tackle Damione Lewis (shoulder) had limited participation. DE Julius Peppers, Godfrey, FB Brad Hoover and RB Jonathan Stewart all practiced fully. -- David Scott

Start Godfrey at quarterback.

Sherrod Martin played well at safety while Charles Godfrey is playing OK. Godfrey doesnt seem to have progressed as much as we would have liked in his second year(he's still just an average safety. Honestly, our pass defense is playing better with Martin back there(not by much, though). I say go with Martin.

The stats tell the story, give Martin his due !! He seems like the best bet at that position( coming from cornerback), than anyone in the mix so far.

Godfrey sucks and needs to give back that #30 unless he decides to live up the vicious hits Mike Minter used to deliever. He don't deserve to wear his #.

Honestly, Godfrey doesn't belong in the defensive lineup. He could, however provide some much needed assistance in special teams, which needs all the help it can get.
