Surgery coming soon for Panthers' LB Davis

Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis stopped by the locker room today and said he's scheduled to have his ACL repair surgery on Nov. 30. He said he's talked to numerous friends and other players who've undergone the procedure. He said he does not expect his speed to be adversely affected once he returns and that he expects to be "stronger than ever" next season.

As for the fact that he's in the final year of his contract, he said he hopes the Panthers will want to sign him to an extension and that he wants to finish his career with Carolina.

6 years 40 million. I am basing that off the Lance Briggs deal last year that was 6 years 36 million.

I dont know if the Panthers want to sign him for 6 years yet, thats quite a long time for someone about to go to surgery. Granted he may come back just as good as b4 he was hurt, he also may come back & not be as good. I would say sign him for that 6 year deal, for 40 mil, but with an option to just drop him after the firat year if they dont think he is as good.

I don't like this injury at all. I think about the Merriman injury...it has taken him more than a year to get back to where he is showing up in the boxscore. This is a bad injury for a LB. Probably the worst position for this type of injury due to the sudden bursts and change of direction required at LB. Sign him for sure...just gotta have faith in TD and our tremendous training staff.

I want to see him finish his career in Carolina, too. Hope he can get healthy and get a contract worked out.

I hope we can sign him next year. He has great speed and coverage ability. I am guessing that will depend upon the Peppers situation. If we have to Franchise Tag Peppers again next year how much will that cost us?

Do the deal.

otismlw has hit the nail right on the head. Look at what Peps contract did to us his year. Now add 20%. (Sequential Franchise tag rules) Either pep signs an extension or he walks. Losing Davis in FA is not worth the 2nd round pick we'd get for pep.

Please Julius in the name of anything and everything that is holy do not screw up our chances of resigning Davis, please sign your franchise tag earlier so the Panthers can actively trade you or sign a longterm deal with the Panthers. Obviously no one wanted you that bad last offseason, because your agent was unable to work out a deal. If we lose Thomas Davis the future of our team is in jeopardy. Beason, Davis, Williams, Stewart are the four most critical players for the Panthers to make absolutely sure they maintain.

daivs is already the fastest linebacker in the nfl.... even if he looses speed he will still be quick

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of watching WILLs leave the building since this franchise began myself. I guess some postions just don't get the big contracts by design, and it that is true, than that obviously not a reflection on the three seperate coaches we have had since inaguration.

Anyway, Thomas Davis has definitely developed into an up and coming star. It is a real shame about his injury. I do hope he is reasonable about contract negotiations and gives the franchise some leeway about his return, as that relates to the figures he will be asking for for the first couple of seasons in his new contract.

Just the same, despite all the crazy contracts that have gotten thrown around lately, I don't think they will keep him. Again, that has been the pattern since they passed on resigning Lathan. Remember him? Then the uproar when Brandon Shortt was not resigned, and so on.
