Answering your questions, Part I
Q: What do you think of the chances of Moore finishing the season?Posted by: Bill Cuthbertson | Dec 6, 2009 6:50:30 PM
A: As long as Delhomme is injured, Moore is likely to start. There's a chance Delhomme's finger could be healed before the end of the season, however. If that happens, Fox is likely to re-insert him into the lineup.
-------------------------
Q: Any reason why Godfrey got the start today ahead of Martin? That is scary w/ NE next.
Posted by: aguynamedguy | Dec 6, 2009 6:56:47 PM
A: Godfrey's experience far exceeds Martin's, and he came up big today, so it's hard to argue with the coaching decision to make the switch back after Martin started the previous five games.
------------------------
Q: do you think matt moore played well enough for a reg back job or a starter job
Posted by: kenneth picklesimer | Dec 6, 2009 6:57:35 PM
A: It's way too early to make a call on Moore based on this game. Let's talk in a few weeks, but the guess here is he's a backup going forward, not a starter.
-------------------
Q: I have a question for you, how can someone like Syrpis buy into the Freeman hype? 5 INT's, really? Let me guess, he graduated from Delhoe University, right?
And what is up with that Ron Pitts guy?? He was talking Josh up like he had already made the Hall of Fame. Then he goes on and on about how Matt Ryan fans should have been focusing on Michael Vick, because of his injury, or something like that. I could not follow his irrationale lack of logic. I mean, how (and more importantly, why) do people like this get a paycheck???
A: Don't know about Pitts, but most any NFL scout or front office type would tell you Freeman shows signs of eventually becoming an excellent quarterback. He made some big mistakes in the red zone today, but you could put together a very impressive highlight film from this game to prove his potential. He's young and just getting started. Don't you think the Panthers would love to have him?
--------------
Q: Your thoughts on what our offseason moves should be. Obviously resigning Davis and dealing with Peppers are key, but what about a second reciever and quarterback? Do we look to the draft or free agency for those?
Posted by: Nick | Dec 6, 2009 7:07:12 PM
A: Definitely need to re-sign Davis or keep him as a RFA if it's an uncapped year. As for Peppers, they need to at least acquire something of value for him and not let him go for nothing. Must, must, must acquire at least one QB and perhaps two, preferably a veteran and a promising young player. Need to fix the problem at the NO. 2 WR position and also need a viable slot receiver. And isn't it about time this team truly had a long-term solution as a kickoff returner? This and more talk like it to be continued in the weeks and months ahead ...
-----------
Q: I liked the way Moore played, he did an excellent job but we need him to pass more, do you agree? Do you think Fox held him back?
Our defense is as good as any out there, I hope we keep the same D next year. Do you think this is the end of Fox and Jake?
Posted by: Tony | Dec 6, 2009 7:08:10 PM
A1: Yes, the coaches held him back and they'll probably continue to do so going forward. They'll pick their spots with taking downfield shots, as they did today in Moore's long throws to Muhammad (incomplete) and Smith (66-yarder).
A2: The defense, and Meeks, probably depends on who's the head coach. Jake is probably staying because the Panthers will owe him more than $12 million whether he stays or goes. He won't make problems even if he's not starting, so they're most likely to keep him. As for Fox, it's too early to tell, but you'd have to say it's very iffy at this point.
----------------------------------
Q: Any ideas about what happens to Jake in the off-season?
With his large signing bonus, we are quite handcuffed. The best hope, IMO, is for him to retire or reach a buy-out.
I have been a Jake support, even after the playoff loss against Az, but there is no way I can defend him after this year. - FYI

A: See answer A1 in response to the previous questioner.
----------------------
Q: Fox's post game comments sounded to me like a coach begging to keep his job. Especially where he says "We have won alot of games over the past 7-1/2 years. As much as anyone..." Would you agree that statement was a little curious and unlike normal "Foxspeak"?
Posted by: JamesBrown | Dec 6, 2009 7:08:46 PM
A: Fox says things like that from time to time. Begging? No. Stating his case? Yes. Who could blame him?
-----------------
Q: Do you think Moore could be the starting quarterback next season whether Fox is the coach or not?
Posted by: David | Dec 6, 2009 7:09:49 PM
A: Highly unlikely no matter who is the coach unless something dramatic happens in the final four games.

Alright Chuck, thanks for posting my question. Nothing like making myself laugh outloud. Seriously though, let's not overlook the tremendous performance by the defense tonight. Also, 100 plus yard performance in the first half alone did not hurt matters. Moore was solid. What's up with Rhys Loyd though??? It seems the bigger he gets (he seems to be putting on some weight) the less his kickoffs make it to the opposing endzone...
About Pitts, that guy always seems to be pulling against the Panthers. They should bring back Beurlein or something, or at least someone neutral. I just wanted to point out (with the statments I made in my line of questioning) how some of his biases make him less than desirable as an announcer. Not sure how that guy has kept that job as long.
And to answer your question about how I feel about bringing in Freeman from the Bucs to take over, at this point, I would have been ecstatci if they brought in Joey Harrington off of the street to take the snaps... seriously.
Anyway, GO PANTHERS!!!
:0)

What would be the chances of moving Goodson to receiver. He has fantastic hands and has caught the ball well, is hard to tackle in the open field. He would not take the pounding that he gets at RB and is a weapon opposite Steve Smith.

For you guys thinking our defense is as "good as any out there", we gave up 469 yards to the Bucs! Hello??? pass the Panama Red if you think we have a defense "as good as any outh there".
Our defense has some talent, but you are kidding yourself if you think we are even in the top 20....bottom 10 at best.
Personnaly I think out defensive coach was a total desperation move. He did nothing at Indy and is doing nothing here.
Speaking of that, I forget how many assts we lost last year, and I for one haven't received a decent answer as to why that happened...anyone?

Were 13th in the league Red.5th against the pass...

How can anybody say that Fox coming back is iffy? I would hate to be a Tampa fan right now. But if that is what management wants then I guess that's the way the team goes. Our defensive coach is bad? That's why he left Indy? Or could it be the fact that he wanted a chance to prove himself somewhere without Tony Dungy. Stop looking for a soap opera in football...go watch them with you wife if you want to.
