With Peppers' constant pressure, Favre says Childress wanted QB change
Vikings quarterback Brett Favre acknowledged a "heated discussion" on the sideline with coach Brad Childress tonight over whether it the veteran quarterback should leave the game against Carolina to prevent a possible injury.
Favre, 40, played the entire game, which Carolina won 26-7, but apparently only after debating with Childress. One of the big factors in the debate apparently was the amount of pressure Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers was putting on Favre. Peppers was credited on the stat sheet with a sack and three quarterback hurries, but those numbers don't do justice to how much of an impact he made.
Favre said the discussion happened with Minnesota leading 26-7.
"There was a little heated discussion, I guess you would call it," said Favre. "We were up 7-6 at the time. No secret I was getting hit a little bit. I felt the pessure on a lot of plays. Peppers played a great game.
"We had 7 points. I think everyone in the building was like, `They're not moving the ball and not getting points.' And so Brad wanted to go in a different direction. And I wanted to stay in the game. It's not 70-6, we were up 7-6."
Favre acknowledged that Childress' intent was to protect him. Childress apparently didn't want to risk losing Favre for later games or the playoffs.

Childress knew Favre was getting ROCKED....they took McKinnie out because Pep was throwing him around like a rag doll and that still didnt stop him..
He was Outstanding tonight, for the D to play that well against a Vikings team after so many line shifts this season...
KUDOS!!!

WOW. Talk about an insult to have the coach want to bench his starting QB when he's only up by ONE POINT! Just goes to show how much Childress thought of us. Seemed odd early on how he was saying, " I'm not concerned" that the Vikes could lose. I understand our offense was playing like CRAP, but we're talking 1 point. Not 10 or 20.
But look who won.
Someone else commented "Thanks Favre for the prime time slot! GO PANTHERS!" I agree! If it wasn't for Favre this game may have blacked out! Thanks Favre!

Pep did play good and at 1mil a game he should be walking on water. The point of the matter is that in the NFL you have to bring it everygame. At the end of the day the panthers are not going to the playoffs

If Dallas had lose to New Orleans there was a really good chance that game would have been flexed into primetime, but oh well. We'll probably go 7-9 this year, assuming we can beat a Saints team that will bench their starters, and we certainly can beat New York. Given what we've gone through, 8-8 with SIX of those losses being pretty close, I'd say next year looks good. Getting Kemo, Gross, Otah, Davis, and some new youth maybe a new QB and WR... I'm thinking we could be next years bengals or better.

Bottom Line is...... Moore was 3rd string QB, after a Proven Flunkie(MCcown)! Fox was the Seerer of that... After a 2 and 1 sarter record in 2007. The only time the ball went down(moved)the field in "Preseason" was with Moore as QB(3rd string or not)! Now all of the sudden this looks like a good move?????????????? Moore was 3rd string,, because fox as usual went with a Safer(conservative) move, than try and better the team.... TOO SAVE his JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we can resign Peppers to like a 6 year 60 million dollar deal with 31 million in guarantees, I'd say that's pretty good. Its a ton of money, but you're talking 10 million per season and only a third of it guaranteed as opposed to 17-20 million ALL bonus for 1 season. Or at least get a first rounder out of him if he has to leave. I really don't get Peppers though. Yeah, he's been in NC his whole career but come on. We've put up with his inconsistent crap for so long now, we build our whole defense on him, and the team loves him. He should just stay.

man won't you fox haters shut up for a week. We won the game. With two injured tackles, two MAJOR pieces on the defense out and (as you said) a backup QB. And also without DWill. ANd no salary cap. We still could go 8-8 and were just a few plays away from being 11-5 or better.
Fox gets one more year. Its not like he's ruined us for life, DWill Stewart Beason Davis Harris Otah Kahlil Munnerlyn Sutton, those are all young guys that should be here for at least 3 or 4 more years.

Bigguns <- At the end of the day, the Panthers won big..despite a few fans screaming for Fox's head. This was a well coached Team, the Panther Players showed they are still playing to win, and for Fox.. This was a HUGE test for Carolina. and they passed with flying colors. They can beat the Giants.and if the Saints have wrapped up the top spot, they will beat the Saints at home..Enjoy the WIN...'Bigguns' for once...!!!

The problem this season was Delhomme. And a lot of that blame falls on Fox, sure. But I don't see anybody bagging Jeff Fischer for not wanting Vince Young to start until week 7. How can you blame Fox or Fischer? Young played like crap earlier and Moore has never been more than a decent backup.
I think this was our transition season. We are transitioning to a new "playoff window". 03-05 was our window then we had to transition and 06-09 was another window and now we are transitioning again.

Next season easier schedule we will do better, as Fox likes,,,, NBC showed it, Fox Plans for the easier schedule to try and sneak up on the teams, not to use our Mass(be aggressive) of talent to beat them!!!!!
Listen to a previous player of Fox on the radio, Frank and Buck SHOW! Unbiased opinion who says Fox is fine with playing and acting average, to try and get the advantage over Anybody, Rather than crush every one with the talent you have!!!!(basically)!

Moore was 3rd string, behind McCown???? DOES Everyone understand that when this season started?

Good job Panthers. It's sad that they so often have to overcome not only their opponent but also the refs and poor coaching.

all i have to say is "thank you" PEPPERS for putting brett favre on the ground, one of those hits was nasty, i love it, let's see how brett palys for the reast of the season now, and peppers i know you not as dumb as peole try to say you are, you know this was a natioanl televised game, great audition for your next employer, i will miss you number#90..

We could very possibly finish 8-8 and end this dreadful season on a high note. We will be a contender again next season.

This is my question was the great performance Pepper put on just weak O-line play or was it Pepper putting on a show for the National TV audience so that other teams know he still has it so he can get someone to trade for him in the off season? He can be a very good player but if he doesn't want to stay in Carolina we will do the 20 mill franchise tag and hope to trade him again. 20 mill is to much money for us to tie up in one player! What are your thoughts?

Charles is as bad as Fox. 26-7? Did they post then dock the Vikes points when I wasn't looking? No proof readers for Charles? I guess the death of newspapers theory is true. Newspapers are dieing and can't afford top notch talent either.
While I love Jake, Moore is the future or at least now better then Jake.Had Moore been playing in NO the Panthers would have won that game.I fully expect the Panthers to be 8-8 for the season.Which means that Fox returns.I kinda wish they lost just to get rid of FOX.

I noticed very few double teams on Pep. He killed them last night!

Get rid of Fox?????. I dom't get it. It's not the coach, never was. Davidson had a good game plan, the defense was superb. Don't blame Fox, this year was because Delhomne has lost his confidence, and Fox wanted him to regain it. It didn't work, so thank God he broke his "finger", Matt can play. And all you Fox haters, maybe we can get Seifert back. Bad season, but it's not Fox's fault. If we get rid of anybody, let it been Delhommne.

Peppers played great. But he is playing hard, because it was National coverage, so he could show his value to teams around the league. I just wish he wanted to stay, I like him, and wish he would stay. I don't want him to leave.

some observations.
1. i love our defense.keep meeks no matter who the head coach is.
2.dont be fooled by peppers prime time audition. where has he been all year?
3.matt moore took a ton of abuse from fox. he should go into 2010 as the starter.
4.we have the deepest offensive line in football.the makeshift line played well.
5.fox and the s.t coach need to go.
6.if kasay cant be trusted to try a 52 yarder and hes not hurt then we need to start looking for a kicker.
7.we are a #2 receiver away from a deep playoff run next year.
