First Quarter Update: Panthers 3, Giants 0

John Kasay's 38-yard field goal with 46 seconds remaining were the only points in the quarter.

New York drove from its 20 to deep in Carolina territory on a possession of more than seven minutes before receiver Mario Manningham fumbled the ball away to the Panthers.

Linebacker Jon Beason forced the fumble and fellow linebacker James Anderson recovered at the Panthers' 20-yard line.

Carolina's offense then drove 61 yards in 15 plays for the field goal, highlighted by a 27-yard pass from Matt Moore to Muhsin Muhammad.

the more I watch these Panthers the more I realize how much jake hurt this team...his horrible play cost us this season & he should be cut as soon as the season ends...I am also furious at Coach Fox for standing by jake for so long but I hope he is back next year...hurney & the special teams coch can go as well

Jake looks even sorry on the sidelines.I hope he is cut right now not when the season ends.I dont like watching him even on the sidelines. He is a average QB.Anybody could get us to the superbowl that year against patriots because we had a good defense and pretty good running back.Trust me on this!

Ditto, Bull.Imagine where we could have been if Jake was yanked in October.

I hate just hearing his name.We would have been in the playoffs i know that.

wow GO MATT MOORE!!!!!!he should add the number one next to that 3 on his jersey LOL 31

Posted by: denis_seattle | Dec 27, 2009 2:00:01 PM

This is a different team with Moore running it. Fox still should be fired for being so stupid, and not pulling jake when he was running this team in the dirt!!

Matt freaking Moore....enough said

Posted by: jc | Dec 27, 2009 2:03:02 PM

Yeah Fox "Joke gives us the best chance to win" recite thay to him when he is FIRED!...You can't know unless they PLAY!

Posted by: hellfish | Dec 27, 2009 2:03:38 PM

Coach Fox was heard yammering moments ago that...."Jake still gives us our best chance to win". If he hadn't hung on to that mantra all year long, we'd probably be in the playoffs. Is anyone surprised that in 3 games, Steve Smiths longest 3 completions have come from Moore, and now Moose's longest is from Moore, too. Fox is a stubborn dumb@$$!

17-0 ! This game is kinda surreal ! We just got a pick !

Posted by: nasty704 | Dec 27, 2009 2:04:15 PM

WOW; up 17-0 I hope we win this one because I know John Fox can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory remember last year's game vs the Giants. Matt Moore I think is showing he could be a starter for us. He makes no mistakes and the teams seems to play behind his leadership. It is obvious that the team gave up on Jake.

Posted by: dpanther69 | Dec 27, 2009 2:05:03 PM

I think the team played behind Delhomme...but Delhomme just could not deliver this year

Is it possible that the way Matt Moore has turned things around for the offense and taken so much pressure off the Defense that he has made it enjoyable enough that Peppers will sign long term with the Panthers? Did yall see the excitement from Peppers for Moore. Go Panthers

Posted by: cheerman23 | Dec 27, 2009 2:07:06 PM

all i know is that we have a starting QB next season and his number is 3.just wondering what is gonna happen to peppers.ohh and great job ron meeks!!!!

Posted by: big m | Dec 27, 2009 2:15:19 PM

JAKE take off your jersey and get OUT of Carolina.

Posted by: denis_seattle | Dec 27, 2009 2:19:06 PM

WOW! what an amazing concept to throw the ball away while under pressure. Hey John and Jake look what a real quarterback does under pressure

Posted by: dpanther69 | Dec 27, 2009 2:21:48 PM

Fox wasting timeouts may cost us a td...the refs did'nt blow the whistl untill after Lewis was off the field...uh coulda called a timeout instead of getting called for delay of game if Fox had'nt called 2 already....yep cost us at LEAST 3pts
