Panthers can help Saints make history

The New Orleans Saints, who started the season 13-0 but are now losers of two straight, might be on the verge of an odd kind of first in the NFL, and their foes on Sunday -- the Carolina Panthers -- would be happy to help them with that.

According to the league, no team has ever entered the playoffs as No. 1 seed on a three-game losing streak (since the league started seeding teams in the playoffs in 1975). That's what the Saints are looking at: After opening the season with 13 consecutive victories, the Saints have lost two in a row (to Dallas and Tampa Bay). But they clinched home-field throughout the NFC playoffs on Monday night when the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Chicago Bears.

Saints coach Sean Payton said earlier this week that his starters would open the game, but he didn't say how long they would play. -- David Scott

Teams are not "seeded" for the NFL playoffs. There are no committees making decisions.

They may pull their starters, but if we beat them 60-0 we've still made a statement. Get em cats!!

Keith Waters,

No, they're not seeded if you want to get into semantics. Ask the away teams if there are seedings though...don't be a jerk.

The only history I'm concerned with is two 1,100 rushers in one season. I knew the Saints weren't going to go undefeated when we played them close in there house, and that was WITH Jake. After a few meet and greets with Brees and Peppers, Payton will sit the 1st stringers, and the route will be on.

The "Route" will be on? 77 or 85?

Learn to spell people!

Excuse me, Professor Conan. Obviously, I meant "rout." Happy New Years!

I'd love to see us make that history. Not so much because that's a great kind of history to make, I just want to see us win!

thats what i love about our team. were constantly underdoggs but we seem to always spoil somebody's sunday and make some sort of history and all the NFL and ESPN analysts seem to overlook that....Go figure, if it was Romo or Manning throwing a ball at a slightly different angle for the 1st time it would make #1 highlights all month. We blow out the Giants and they show a Pretty much preseason game of the Colts and Jets on replay :-( come on now
