Panthers sign LB Culberson

The Panthers signed linebacker Quinton Culberson today and waived linebacker Kelvin Smith.

Culberson, who played at Mississippi State, was with the St. Louis Rams in 2007 and '08 before he was waived by them after playing one game this season. He had been with the Florida Tuskers of the UFL. -- David Scott

Carolina needs to push extremely hard to land Bill Cowher and even entertain the possibility of bringing in Charlie Weis to do the play calling. We need major changes in Charlotte. We have to much talent her to be a losing football team.

People keep saying it's the QB but it not just him. We need two more receivers. Look at the Saints, Vikings, and Chargers. They are loaded and once Carolina address that issue we will when the SUPER BoWL. If we keep the defense intact.

Not meaning to be argumentative Dherac but the receiving woes begins with the QB play. You mention the Saints, Vikings, and Chargers as having outstanding receivers, but I think the biggest contribution comes from having quality QB’s who have some kind of accuracy as well as the deep ball threat. Gun Slinger Jake has never been considered an accuracy QB and ever since the Tommy John surgery that has gotten worse as well as took his deep ball game away. This question is sort of like which comes first, the chicken or the egg? Sure you need both to an extent, but a quality QB can make average WR’s look like Pro Bowlers much more than the other way around. The John Fox model is attempting to make the WR’s make Jake look like a super star and as this season shows and I would argue much of ’08 that is not working. Smitty carried Jake when he could, but the game has gotten away from both. Carolina will NEVER have a productive stud WR until the QB position is addressed.

To make my point even clearer Dherac. Take nothing away from the Saints excellent WR play Monday night. Devery Henderson, Marques Colston and Robert Meachem all had great outings? Which of these is Pro Bowl material? I will give you 2 of each of the 3 receivers AND Jake if you give me Drew Brees, Steve Smith and Moose.

I agree with you 100%. the Reason Jake looked so good in 05-08 was because when he threw the ball up Steve went to go get it., But now with teams on steve like they are its impossible for him to go from one side of the field to the other to catch the ball and bail jake out. or stop running fast and come back to a ball thats constantly underthrown because there is a defender over him and under him. Look back at film a lot of balls steve caught was poorly thrown. Steve made Jake not the other way around...Our line has to be better but when steve cant get open jake forces it to him anyway instead of looking at other recievers who might have orginally been open but since he stayed on smith they became covered,..

Coaching is going to make any QB look bad on the Panthers reguardless. So I feel sorry for Matt Moore. I mean Jake is bad for sure but I don't think Fox will let Moore play himself out?!!The offensive line has given up 23 sacks I believe.Last year the O-line was much better.I am not sold on Cowher. He was on the hotseat the year he won the Superbowl.I'd take Shanahan.
