Postgame Q&A, part I

Q. Hey, is there any way John Fox will stay as head coach of the Carolina Panthers and if he does who will be Quarterback next season?

Posted by: Tyler | Dec 21, 2009 12:10:31 AM

A. Only one man knows the answer to the coach's question: Jerry Richardson. Lots of things figure into the decision, most importantly how the Panthers finish the season. Fox has one year left on his contract, though, and no extension has been offered yet. Jake Delhomme will likely be back next year: The question will be whether another quarterback will be brought into compete for the job, or if Matt Moore (impressive tonight, obviously) and Josh McCown will also get equal shots at it. -- David

Q. Will Fox still be stubborn and declare Jake the starter if healthy tomorrow in his noon presser?

A. If Fox holds true to form, he won't name anybody the starter on Monday. Doesn't matter how well Moore played tonight or how healthy Delhomme might be. He won't tip his hand this early in the week. -- David

Q. My only question is where has this performance been all season? Instead of making us suffer through this debacle, they should have been giving an effort like this since week 1.

A. JM, if anybody had the answer to that question, they could bottle it and get rich quick. -- David

Q. Do you think, at some point, DeAngelo and/or Stewart will get tired of sharing the caries? I would not want it to happen, but do you think the Panthers would trade one of them if the right deal is out there?

A. When they're both involved and productive, it makes the Panthers really tough to beat. DeAngelo and Jonathan are also each other's biggest fans. They've been happy together for two years, but who knows how long they can stay that way. But they seem to be the kind of people who appreciate the other's success. And splitting carries cuts down on wear and tear. That said, running back is where the Panthers have an embarrassment of riches. If they need to make a deal to get draft picks or strengthen themselves elsewhere, that could be a place to go. -- David
