Third Quarter Update: Panthers 34, Giants 3

Carolina's second consecutive blowout of a favored opponent continued in the third period.

Over the past seven quarters, the Panthers have outscored Minnesota and the New York Giants by a combined 60-10.

On the not-so-positive side, Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith suffered a left arm injury on a 27-yard touchdown catch with 13 minutes left in the quarter.

Smith came to the sidelines holding his left arm and appeared to be in considerable pain. He was taken to the locker room on a cart and it was announced that his return to the game was questionable.

Panthers' kicker John Kasay accounted for Carolina's other points of the quarter on a 28-yard field goal.

The Giants' first points of the game came on a 40-yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes with 7:44 left in the season.
