Kalil added to NFC Pro Bowl roster

Panthers center Ryan Kalil will join teammates DeAngelo Williams and Julius Peppers at the Pro Bowl this week in Miami.

The NFL announced today that Kalil, an alternate, would replace New Orleans Saints' center Jonathan Goodwin on the NFC roster. Goodwin can't participate because he's playing in the Super Bowl a week later.

It will be the first Pro Bowl appearance for Kalil, who recently completed his third NFL season. He's widely regarded as one of the NFL's best and most talented young centers.

Goodwin was one of 14 members of the Colts and Saints who were selected to play in the Pro Bowl, but won't be able to perform.

Usually, the Pro Bowl is held in Hawaii the week after the Super Bowl, allowing players from the championship teams to participate.

This year, however, the Pro Bowl is being held at the site of the Super Bowl, but is being played one week earlier.

With every single passing day, stories like this make me hate Jake Delhomme (and John Fox to an extent) that much more...this actually could've been a great season.

The Jets' postseason run made me want to puke. They are exactly us, only the AFC version! Why weren't we in the playoffs? Cause Sanchez sucked a tiny bit less than Delchoke during the middle of the season. Sure the Jets' defense was a little better than ours, but they didn't have the offensive weapons that we do. The Panthers should've been playing, at the very least, yesterday or last weekend.

I agree w/ Quintin...Frustrating.

Congrats to Kalil!! And stop complaining Quintin and Cmck!

What about Beason taking Vilmas place?

Posted by: Brad | Jan 25, 2010 12:15:30 PM

I second Brad's comment. Beason absolutely deserves to take Vilma's place in the Pro Bowl. I think he was the second leading tackler in the NFL or something!

Posted by: ron | Jan 25, 2010 12:26:21 PM

OK, so I checked on NFL.com and Beason had 2nd most solo tackles (111 to 95 for London Fletcher who is taking Vilma's place), plus he had 3 sacks to Fletcher's 2. But Fletcher has most combined tackles + assists. So OK, but I would still take Beason on my team!

Posted by: ron | Jan 25, 2010 12:32:01 PM

I though Beason WAS an alternate

Posted by: Brad | Jan 25, 2010 12:40:02 PM

This is BS! Beason deserved to go in over Vilma in the first place! And now that Vilmas out Fletcher takes his place?! Unbelievable. Whatever, more motivation for him to destroy all oponents next season.

Way to go for Kalil but Beason should also go.

Posted by: wcpf78 | Jan 25, 2010 12:55:29 PM

Congrats Kalil! Of course Beas DESERVES to go because he IS BETTER than the other two mentioned. But on another note, I'm pretty sure Beas said that he wouldn't go this year as an alternate because he doesn't believe is actually is an alternate. LOL. Can't wait to see what kind of attitude he plays with next year! How many days till training camp?

The Jets defense is better tahn the Panthers personnel-wise, but they also run a superior scheme. The Jets attack, the Panthers read and react. The Jets dictate the action on defense, the Panthers get dictated to.

Notice how much better and more aggressive the Colts defense is this year with Ron Meeks gone? The Colts are a better defense, even without Bob Sanders because they attack!

Beason said on Pacman's show that even if he got the call he would not go. He wants to prove a point for not being selected as a starter. He feels snubbed (and rightly so). He said he would not go as a replacement for someone else.

Don't blame Jake for this failed season. The blame needs to be single-handedly passed out only to John Fox. He HAD the choice of pulling Jake after week 3, at the very latest, and quite possibly salvaged our season (who knows), but the fact he continued to stick with Jake until week 12 speaks volumes about his ability to make changes when needed. Not saying he's a bad coach, but his decision cost us this season, NOT Jake's. We already knew how Jake was playing well before this season started. He SHOULD have been replaced with Moore, or at the very least, we should have went out to get a qualified QB, but Foxy decided to keep Jake as the starter,

I wouldn't be surprised that Jake starts next season too...that's just how loyal Fox is to him and vice versa. Sad.....

NOt going becuase you feel "snubbed" seems a little silly to me.

Posted by: Brad | Jan 25, 2010 5:32:07 PM

If Joke does start next season then I am officially DONE as a Panther fan!! I will not continue to dole out my hard earned money to watch him continually play horrible and cause this team to lose game after game. Do you hear that John Fox???
Congratulations to Kalil!!

What a whining bunch of girls we have as a fan base.

Posted by: Jody | Jan 25, 2010 7:45:39 PM

BTW SpecialK, John Fox can't hear you through the six million dollars he will be making this year, so get over it.

Congrats to Kalil of making the Pro Bowl

What about Jon Beason and Chris Gamble.

They deserve to make it the most.

Chris Gamble in the last 2 yrs had only giving up 4 td's.( 2 in '08, 2 in '09) Thats consistent for a CB, sure he doesn't get alot of picks, but he shutsdown good WR's.

Ppl need to take off their homer glasses, Newman didn't deserve to make it at all.

Chris Gamble or Sheldon B should have taken his spot.

Congrats to Ryan Kali, he's deserving. John The Beast Beason is the best linebacker now in the NFL. This will probably be thelast Pro Bowl in his career that he misses. Stop with the Delhomme bashing....get over it....bimbos......it's assinine to cry over spilled milk.

Jon Beason on the other hand had made a major point. Why be voted to the Pro Bowl as an alternate, i want to learn it by being a starter.

Johnathan Vilma shouldn't even have made it to the Pro Bowl period. What has he done so special that Beason didn't do.

Oh i know "the reason he made it becuz his team had a better record than everyone".

That shouldn't take anything away from what Beason had done for his team.

Posted by: josh smith | Jan 25, 2010 8:11:24 PM

London Fletcher was 1st alternate, Beason was 2nd alternate

Posted by: Jeff | Jan 25, 2010 8:47:59 PM

John Fox's refusal to pull Jake earlier in the season was stubborn to say the least. I guess they decided to give Jake a contract extension with all of that money and Fox couldn't admit he had made a mistake. The switch to Matt Moore earlier in the season I think would have lead to a playoff spot.

Jon Beason should be in the Pro Bowl now.

Posted by: Dan | Jan 25, 2010 9:06:50 PM

We could have gone 10-6 and still not made the playoffs, if you can't recall the two wild cards in the NFC both had 11-5 records. It would have been tough to make the playoffs no matter who started, so please people quit whining about what could have been.

Posted by: Jody | Jan 25, 2010 9:13:13 PM

what about wharton. he playes his tail off at LG and LT. kalil deserved to be there in the first place and so does beason

Posted by: raf | Jan 25, 2010 10:10:20 PM

Had John Fox done the right thing there would be more players going. I am really disgusted with his sorry decisions this year and that should have been cause for his dismissal. We had no passing game and it was all running and that was not right to the players. Doling out that big contract to Delhomme was outrageous. The guy not only has a bad arm but is indecisive.
