Carolina Panthers links for Thursday

Thursday's Carolina Panthers links:

Scott Fowler: For John Fox, one last chance / Charlotte Observer

Tyler Brayton signs three-year deal / Charlotte Observer

If you don't want to know what Jake Delhomme said Wednesday in his first interview with the Cleveland media, stop reading.

If you're still with us, an excerpt:

As the Panthers struggled through a 4-7 start last season, Delhomme completed 178-of-321 passes. He threw eight touchdown passes and 18 interceptions before breaking a finger in a game against the New York Jets and sitting out the remaining five games while backup Matt Moore took over.

"I just didn't play good football from Week One on," Delhomme said, refusing to conjure up any excuses. "We didn't have the same continuity and I probably tried too hard and pressed. That never works, and it didn't work because I wasn't being me."

Still, when the Panthers released him, Delhomme was crushed.

"My seven years (with the Panthers) was great, and I got close to a lot of people," he said. "Those are the things that mean a lot to me -- those relationships, those ties. I had to let the sting of the release get out, the emotion of it get out."

What? Why should we root for them to win a superbowl just because of delhomme? Screw that! Hope Jake is successful, but I hope Matt and the panthers are MORE successful.

Delhomme is a class guy, and wishing him well is warranted for that fact alone. We do owe him a great deal of gratitude for helping the Panthers get into a continuous winning state of mind. I felt he needed replacing much earlier than it happened last season. I hope the remainder of his career is very successful, of course, not in any games against the Panthers.
