Ex-Panthers kicker Lloyd signs with Vikings

Kicker Rhys Lloyd, who the Panthers set free last week, has signed with the Vikings, he announced on Twitter Monday night.

The Panthers chose not to tender Lloyd as a restricted free agent, because it would have required a $1.101 million payout.

Instead, look for them to find a rookie who'll make $320,000, since kicker John Kasay and punter Jason Baker have shown they aren't particularly good at kicking off.

Why not cut Kasay and keep Lloyd? Kasay is starting to diminish. He can't get it 50 yards anymore.
All of his kicks were real low last year, which led to the blocks...

I think they will probably let Kasay decide when he wants to leave, which may not be much longer since he is like 10 years older than the next oldest panther now. Actually I have no idea. I never thought they would cut Hoover either.
Maybe Baker can kick off, or they can just sign a different KO specialist that will cost less than Lloyd.

They'll probably draft a kicker in the seventh round or sign somebody for the minimum rookie wage ect.

They aren't THAT dumb. Baker is an awful kickoff specialist and Kasay has obviously Lost leg strength. They would never be dumb enough to let kasay wear even faster doing kickoffs.

lloyd can't kick field goals, even after having kasey coach him the last two seasons, they'll draft kasey's replacement and when he's ready kasey is retiring.

In warmups Lloyd would hit from 60 yards, yes he kicked the ball from midfield. I don't understand why Fox didn't try it sometimes. Maybe Fox didn't know.

oh yes he can kick field goals. i saw him doing it all the time in the nfl europa for the frankfurt galaxy. a fg between 52-57 was no problem for him. don't say now that was the nfleurope and not the nfl.

lloyd seemed to lose distance toward the end of the season.not worth a roster spot.good move but they might want to draft a kicker now.
