Panthers announce price hikes

At a time when the team's purging salary, the Carolina Panthers are asking ticket holders for more of theirs.

The Panthers said Friday that they'd raise ticket prices between $1 and $9 per seat. A team spokesman said roughly half the tickets in the stadium would go up between $1 and $3 each.

It's the eighth time in the last 11 years they've raised prices, after an early trend toward holding costs steady.

The Panthers kept prices constant the first five years of the franchise's existence, but since then have hiked ticket costs each year besides 2003, 2007 and 2009.

The Panthers are quick to remind that they're still among the cheapest tickets in the league, in the bottom half. They'll also point out that the other two teams with privately funded stadiums (Washington and New England) are among the league's most expensive tickets.

The team has also announced some new payment options, as PSL owners can break up their season-ticket renewals into three equal payments, due in April, May and June.

Wow, this front office is way out of touch with reality. If we had won a super bowl or were gearing up for a run this season it might be understandable. Instead, we are purging many of our most popular players. Pathetic.

Typical!

Yet another sign that this owner has LOST HIS MIND!!!

Posted by: PLEASE_SELL_MR_RICHARDSON!! | Mar 12, 2010 11:02:46 AM

Maybe it's time for Richardson to sell. This is insane. We're supposed to pay more for half a team!? Give me a break!

Are you kidding me???? This is ridiculous. Not only are they going to be putting a cheaper, watered down team on the field - now they want us to pay more to watch. Hey Big Cat, "Pigs get fat but Hogs get slaughtered". You need to remember that.

Jerry you crack me up, but I'm still not coming to any of the games. I can watch losers all day on TV for free.

LMAO! Glad we sold our PSL's because this team is NUTS. They keep raising prices after a losing season and after a roster purge. Good Luck, then again what do they care, they force people to buy tickets because of the PSL stipulation, so they make their money no matter how crappy the team is.

Just another example of how the Panthers DO NOT care about their fans.

Do any of y'all actually have PSL/Season Tickets? Ohhh - the big bad NFL team is raising prices by a dollar! Not to sound callus b/c that's not fair to you guys, just by respond to this (even by complaining) it proves that you actually are serious fans. The fact of the matter is that the NFL is a business and as such raising ticket prices is inevitable and, like it or not, perpetual. Be realistic.

Mediocrity is NOT cheap!

I totally agree with ridinfool! Jerry, you have lost your freakin' mind!! You are going to put an inferior product on the field with alot of second rate players that no one has ever heard of, and you expect the fans to pay more to watch this no name inferior team?? I won't be paying more to watch a losing team. I guess I will now be able to spend more time with my family on Sundays. Sundays will certainly will be a lot less frustrating for me now!

Unbelievable! It should be cut prices since they are cutting half the team and throwing 2010 away. It be nice if Ownership would explain WHY they are throwing away 2010. Figure we have no 1st round draft pick this year so we are going for the #1 next year. All non Panther fans wanting tickets for this year give me a call. No PANTHER fan should have to be at our games this year. So I am selling to opposing teams.

I only go when a vendor pays for it...and even then I feel sad that their company pumped money out to see the sorry show that the Panthers have presented the past few seasons.

My family name is on Panther at the stadium...but I just assume watch from home.

Yes, I am a PSL owner and I think it is ridiculous to consider raising ticket prices in an off-season where the management has made a conscious decision to cut the primary reasons we attend games. I believe Richardson is gearing up to sell the team, which may be in the best interest of everyone involved because I don't want to watch a bunch of crap on the field again this year...

Suck it up & stop complaining!!!!

Posted by: Trish | Mar 12, 2010 11:23:31 AM

I wonder what the fan outrage will be like when they demand you have to buy 2011 season tickets or lose your PSLs, even though there won't be any games played.

You think Mr. Richardson could help me with some jelly donuts?

Really, an inferior product? How do you know? Relax a little. And quit wondering about the sanity of the guy... even if he was (which he's not) clearly lucidity has no bearing on team success - Tom Benson lifting the Lombardi Trophy is proof of that. I know it's hard to imagine, but get past your personal negativity. I can assure you that Panther ownership want to win games.

Posted by: Panther Fan in CHS | Mar 12, 2010 11:26:41 AM

Hey idiots that aren't offended by the price hikes... the Panther's just cut their vets and are saving 25+ million so far, and the prices for their seats are going up. If the Panther's don't use that 25+ million (and it's unlikely they'll get close to doing it, seeing as most the decent free agents are signed now) there's going to be some pissed off fans. I believe last year someone did the math and said every ticket could be $20 cheaper without Peppers 18mil salary. So we've cut more payroll than just him, and still raising prices?

Authority - now that's a far more interesting subject.

Posted by: Panther Fan in CHS | Mar 12, 2010 11:29:25 AM

pay more in bad times for a lesser product,...i'll get right on that. ridiculous!

Posted by: will | Mar 12, 2010 11:29:57 AM

If they are going to raise prices I demand that they re-sign Brad Hoover.

Posted by: Durtis Curtis | Mar 12, 2010 11:30:42 AM

No, it's really not that big an increase and obviously most of those posting here are not PSL owners. A couple of things that should be pointed out is that the cost of the tickets has almost doubled since 1996. Mine went from $26 to $45 game. The other thing is that the Panthers proudly point out that they have a "privately-funded" stadium making it sound as if the Richardsons funded the stadium. They did not. The "private funds" that built the stadium were primarily from the pockets of fans in the form of PSL fees.
